Just to be clear, is BMW upgrading their existing electrochromic roof to a new material?
I love it that Thomas always mentions his height when talking about seats and spaciousness! It frustrates me when other presenters don't do that.
Yes, and in case of other UA-camrs, specially the shorter ones, do not tell their height, and we, tall persons, do not know if the car can fit us...
Even some presenters go one extra step further : ‘ Lot of knee room. I can sit behind myself’ without telling their height or whatever setting the seat is at. They really don’t know what being tall means and whatever problems the tall guys endure im cars.

German Automakers at this point are intentionally making their first-gen EVs less appealing, so that they can tell EU gov the demand for EV is just not enough to support its plan to phase out gasoline cars within a decade.

It's simple, bmw and other car makers who use screen climate "buttons" don't give a dime on customer feedback regarding the physical climate buttons 👍
Its gotten so bad the safety review people are saying they will review them as unsafe if the climate buttons arent present.
I want no part of the "future" of automotive if these are the options.
EuroNCAP is literally planning on reducing points for cars that require you to use the screen to access simple things like fan speed
Seems like the bean counters at BMW are running the show. If they wanted to improve upon what they had they would give us programmable buttons instead of putting everything on a screen to save money.
We have 2 cars with climate buttons.. but I NEVER use it.. 21C all the time, and for example in the IX, its auto heated seats, so we dont need to change anything wintertime.
Definitely an improvement on the ix, disappointed about the lack of buttons though, particularly as having it all on a screen makes you take your eyes off the road and is quite dangerous

@@KentBuchlavoice commands will never replace physical buttons, it's stupid. Do you do absolutely everything on your phone by voice? No. Now imagine that the voice recognition in your phone is like 2x better than what in this car. Even if it was perfect, is it not easier to quickly press a single button rather than 1- call the assistant & 2 - speak a whole sentence?
Dude it's a CONCEPT. Obviously their will be buttons on the steering wheel for everything and most likely a scroll wheel that bmw is famous for. I atleast hope they keep the scroll wheel.. I use that over reaching to touch the screen everytime

That wide screen is briliant, I am not fan of screens standing out and grabing attention from everything basically, but this one here is just spot on, I hope it gets into production in a similar form.
yeah, I would rather have just that one and ditch the tablet entirely, but they are not brave enough

Much better than the iX. Definitely have to see it in person and hope it doesn’t change when the final designs come out very much, but it’s nice and clean at least.

I really like the idea of fabric seating surfaces like a high-end furniture store with many choices. I wish we could easily replace seating surfaces without changing the entire seat mechanism, the way you change a worn watchband on an expensive Swiss watch. Same for the steering wheel.

I think BMW have given considerable thought to this new platform on so many levels, and it deserves to do well. I particularly like their alternative to a head up display and the ability to personalise what is displayed. I am not yet convinced by what I saw about the other UI/UX decisions, but I for now give it the benefit of the doubt. I imagine the underlying engineering will be as good as ever. It looks to me as if they are getting most of this very right.
Taken with the sub brand Mini which also gets its major EV refresh this year ahead this one, BMW look to me to have a credible answer to the big brands from the far east, but probably at a price.
If the production version looks as good then it’s a winner.

This is what bmw is about: polarizing design. I think it's genius that 50% love the other half is crying about like no tomorrow, 100% of the people will HEAR about it. I think it's a cool auto.
I totally agree with you on the buttons. I will personally not buy a car without them, which is why I I´m very curious to test drive the VW ID7 Kombi.
Bold design, BMW! Chapeau! Makes the just presented Audi Q6 looks like an outdated car from the past century.

Great review as always! Only missing you mentioning the 'design lines', it's my fav AG quote... And about that tailgate, is it functional? I notice these taillights don't have shutlines running through them. Curious about the final version vis-a-vis taillight graphics.
Personally for me if a car does not have physical controls for the climate and music - i will not buy it. IDrive controller was definitely an appealing feature for me but not necessarily a deal breaker.

I thought that Hypersonix Wheel demonstration was fascinating in that I noted, as you moved your finger around the 4 different sound options, the 'digit trail' revealed the outline of the BMW Roundel beneath.... such incredible attention to detail by the designers. 😲

What about the rear lights? It is not the IX solution from what I gather but I can't see any gap? What happens to the tail lights when it opens?
Thomas, has BMW said anything about what connector it's using in North America for the Neue Klasse? NACS or CCS?
All nice, but that temperature change is not good as shown. Even with my 8.5 system is problem to point to + and - sign when driving and if you will scroll like this new, it will be shaking between 16C and 35C... as shown 😀

Does low energy mode include turning the grill light off?
Considering so many cars look the same at the moment this is a refreshing concept. Once released people will order in black/dark grey anyway with leatherette and it’ll be much more conservative looking than this prototype. Currently have an iX3 and I’d probably get this one next. Well done BMW for doing something different here.

Just ordered the current iX3 model with delivery in October. I love the current design, but as usual with new BMW designs, they will grow on you in a short time

It's just another SUV, not refreshing in the slightest. Does it really take so little to impress "buyers" nowadays? You really are consumers, not customers, to think this looks good.
Come on @autogefuehl, there is only one reason why they stick to digital climate buttons: they cost zero cents. Also, funny how they needed two surveys to confirm something so obvious.

I own a BMW i4 and I'm very happy with it. That said, the styling and engineering dynamics that prevail in the EV world are missing something. I find myself wanting a BMW 2002 tii from the 1970's more than ever these days.
That high beltline of i4 only adds to the claustrophobic interior. That’s probably why u love the old BMWs. With neue klasse we all hope BMW brings more cars with low beltline and better visibility outside.
The exterior is fine, but the interior is a complete disaster…

To my eye, I like the new clean design and the front is a particular highlight. The rear is the only bit that looks out of proportion.

Looks good. Comparing to latest X2 it a beauty! Good proportions and larger windows for visibility. Maybe step back but in right direction.
One thing to correct: less screens more buttons and dials. Maybe new NCAP will force them to change this direction too?
Optional physical buttons are great idea. I think big screen should be optional as well, it can be done like plug-and-play. They produce cars so that it is impossible to upgrade, you cannot upgrade with original equipment. For example I don't mind a small screen, because I don't like it, but I would like to have best safety features. They usually put big screen for higher models together with best safety features, so I end up with big screen. They can include a media button kit on bottom of the main screen, you can pay and install it by yourself, it would be great.

Schau / hör mal den Part zu den Bedienungen / Klima-Knöpfen / Screen ...
Wenn man sich die erste Resonanz anschaut wie z.B. viele andere Kommentare hier trifft dein Kommentar eher nicht zu. Ich persönlich finde es auch ziemlich gelungen, nicht ganz wie das vorherige neue Klasse Konzept aber die neue Designsprache ist top. Es ist schonmal kein Aufschrei zu verzeichnen wie das beim M3, 7er oder xM der Fall war.

I am so frustrated when manufacturers get rid of physical buttons and introduce LCD displays you have to magically interact with and capacitive touch buttons and all that... it's super unintuitive when driving.
I'm sorry, but I can't unsee the pig nostrils on this thing. That 3 series concept where the headlights are integrated into the kidney grilles though looks clever
Also the rear kinda looks like a RAV4
Imagine the price of one of those headlights when a stone cracks it :)
Another great preview, Thomas. I keep thinking about the current lack of charging infrastructure in the USA across the country. So, I believe for now, these electric vehicles in the USA are mainly for urban based people using them for comparability short urban drives. Is it different in Europe? (In the meantime, I'm keeping my I.C.E. AMG coupe).
Great show Thomas! Really like this futuristic design. So exciting to see all the new things happening in the carworld. The 4 spoke steeringwheel is however not so nice I think 😊

I love the control buttons and knob.Because I hate looking at a dirty screen and always cleaning it .The very reason I prefer contact lenses over glasses .

Keep buttons for heating & a/c, but ESPECIALLY on the steering wheel! After driving your car, you learn the feel of the buttons....2 buttons down is turn off cruise control.
If theyre capacitive, its just ONE big button 😬😬

I took from that that the Chinese customer is more important because they have more sales in China.
They should probably consider doing European and Chinese models then. If we wanted Chinese cars we would already buy it...

Tbh I think it’s not bad. I did really like the dark, utilitarian, simple conservative design of the last generation but this is a nice reinterpretation. Light, simple but still functional, good design.
I still wish they had more buttons and kept the drive controller but the wheel controls look decent

Finally BMW is back with a beautiful vehicle. Love the interiors

That’s a lot of reaching for the screen. Will miss the buttons and I drive dial I use 70 percent of the time vs reaching for the touchscreen in my i4 M50

Phyisical Buttons and knobs are better to have. I find it distracting finding the climate controls while driving.

Living in a cold country, heating up the coupé in -20° C costs range. A lot of glass (green house) has a massive cooling effect. I would like to see insulated tv-screens instead of windows - with added IR technology to spot moose and people way before they show up in the lights😊
While watching at 15:30 I was impressed with the lateral thinking by the designers - a 'dashboard' that also doubles as an ironing board! Perhaps the autopilot on the 2025 model will allow you to iron your shirt while the car drives you to work?
The upholstery? It made me smile, my grandma used to knit her cardigans that looked much the same.
I'm looking for a new EV right now, it won't be BMW 👎

They can’t figure out why the i4 is so popular with BMW drivers. It’s a EV that looks identical to a 4-series gc
