Wanted to say thanks Jody, been taking Welding classes through highschool, and just went back after graduation to take my 3G weld test, and passed, in much part thanks to your videos. Look forward to growing as a welder and lord willing putting food on the table. Thank you my man! Keep up the great videos.
I just want to comment to tell you that you really helped me out with my certification. I’m 17 and I’ll be graduating Highschool in 3 months with my new weld certification. Thanks man
Thanks for sharing with us Jody, always enjoy your videos. Just learning to weld at 75 and having fun with what’s left. Been trying for a few years and just now trying to get serious about it.
Going to turn 60 in a few days, doing the same... I hope you are not as hardheaded as I and have sprung for an auto darkening hood. World of difference and gave me new hope.
Hi, sorry for the inconvenience, I am from Colombia and I have trouble translating some words that have to do with welding. I can't find the meaning, could you help me? Saddle bead Main bead Heater bead
Thanks for your help Jody, you’ve helped my stick welding skills improve leaps and bounds. I can now do vertical and overhead outdoors in the most awkward positions since you can’t always remove the parts when welding on forklifts.
I just started welding in high school and I was having trouble about the angle of the rod and this video gave me a really good understanding about of how you can successfully perform this type of weld.
Love your videos pls keep them coming. I watch them sometimes two or three times. Your a great instructor wish I went to welding school instead of college.
I've been running pads with 6010 "until the cows come home" just like you instructed in a different video. Now I'm about to try my hand at t joints. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience. Without your channel I would be struggling alot more through the welding program I'm currently enrolled in. A good instructor is worth their weight in gold, if you can find them. Jody is proof they exist.
Always great to go back to the basics! I haven't done much stick in past 12 years almost exclusively mig and aluminum spool gun so I am brushing up, its funny 1st part of my wedding career 1993 to 97 was almost all stick then aluminum mig, mig and spool gun now 23 years back to stick, thanks for sharing, God bless
You make this look easy! Researching how to weld up a receiver tube to a 1" thick steel piece so I can attach that to my F-150 bumper. I have two 3/16" by 3" squares I will weld at 45 ° to the joint. Not going to pull a house with this, but need a 2" receiver for so many other things. All these parts are scrounge except the 3/16" by 3" squares. Thanks again for the great videos!
i did excellent on my padding project ran passes of 9018,7024, 6013 all good but fillet 7018 humbled me , i kept my arc distance the same as i would for other electrodes and i got major arc blow, thanks for this
I'm teaching myself with a lot of research and a little welder I bought. I can weld 1f all day but I wanted to move up to 2f and am having a little trouble with my rod angle and not seeing my puddle . Also I'm trying to free hand all my welds because I don't have a good set up to prop up on anything & know if I can free hand very well I'll be able to prop up as well.
You are a very good teacher. I have a question tho. How do you manage to eye-ball the previous run and still weld on? Just before the pandemic, while in school, I could hardly see what I'm welding. Actually, the question is, WHAT SHOULD ONE BE SEEING AS THEY WELD? I'm still a student and I just learn from UA-cam until schools re-open.
In class tonight, I used this tutoial on a 6 passes pr side, T fillet weld, flat position, 3/8 inch carbon steel with 7018 Excalibur electrode/ 125 amps, and it started to straightn a few things out. Thank you for this video!
Could you do a whole video of filling the whole joint? I am having problems getting my angles correctly after doing the root and the first 2 welds on top of the root.
So when you acid etched that, I noticed you don't have very much penetration, yes it's bonded multipass, but does that increase strength at the bond by not pushing in too deep?
Hi Jody. I have a question. I’m a senior in HS learning how to weld, and was wondering if for all your welds you have to pass three times? Does that apply to anything and any weld you’re doing?
Nice welds. I've learned a lot watching your videos. Thank you. Wouldn't you like to see a little deeper penetration on those welds or is that ideal? I've never did a cut test but I envisioned my weld penetrating a little deeper. Thanks again
Hi. I am from Indonesia. Your welding technique is very good, I would like to learn more with you. Please make me a video on how to weld the SMAW + FCAW combination, and please include the translation in Indonesian. Thank you
Today I had to plug a square tube, probably 5 inches from the mud (with water dripping from it, as a bit of a bonus). The bottom bead looked like a sack of potatoes. I've been welding for a living for 13 business days and it'd be cool if you did some of the harder positions on the channel!
Awesome vid brother! As I have stated before, Im a mig guy but I just had to replace my old welder that died on me and I bought a Miller Multimatic 215 that I can also stick weld with. Im gonna get me some rods and give it a shot. If you find some time to respond to this I would like to know what you think is a good all around rod for welding mild steel 1/8" to 1/4" thick? Thanks again for the vid. I find myself waiting for them to show up and if one doesnt show for a bit I find myself hoping that all is well for you and the family. Be safe and God bless!
I need your help , I have a TIG250PAC/DC. HYL welder and I almost have the settings , it is a digital but I don’t know how to set it to weld 1/4 aluminum
hey jody, having trouble with my roots on the 2F. not getting enough penetration. i feel like i need to turn the machine upto 200amps using a 3.2mm 7016 LoHI, electrode positive. welding on 10mm plate . mill scale cleaned off too. not sure where i am going wrong.
Great video. I'm curious how you would stick weld a hand railing where the horizontal railing is thicker than the square tubing it's sitting on top of.
Master welder can I request to you can you show to me what is the correct position or welding of 3g t-join for trade test im from Philippines. thank you master welder.
Can you do some stuff with stainless rods? 308/309 stuff? I have an issue with porosity at random points in the bead, and restarts are a pain to do cleanly without porosity
PLEASE ANSWER....Hey I have a real question. I got a scratch start and I was wondering, can you put a switch in the powerline to cut the power at the end of the welds????
I’ve been running 105 amps on about quarter to a third of an inch thick steal and it’s still running weird but the teach said that even 115 amps is to high what should I do?
I don't have a weld cert but I work for a company as a welder fabricator and am looking for a better understanding, I know my welds hold under immense pressure but would like a.little better understanding of how I can make it even better
Man...., you're killing me. I watch as you bring your electrode down for the strike and boom, your off and running. If I did what you did, I'd be frantically wiggling my stinger trying to break off my electrode. How do you do it? you make it look so easy. BTW, thanks for the videos.
If anyone can see this I just passed padding on 7018 and one of the biggest things I’m struggling with is to lay the first bead in order to do multi pass on a tee joint I’m kinda getting confused because when I try to start a bead I’m afraid I will weld into the plate instead of creating a weld itself any tips would help thanks in advance
paid protesters... LOve your accurate training videos, you; Jody are the main reason i have gotten where i am in my progression to becoming a better welder. i love your humility.
Im having a hard time stick welding a cast iron steam turbine cover. I cant get puddle to tie into base metal on toes. Either lays on top or eats cast away. Wont bond. Any ideas or tips is much appreciated.
Thank you for taking your time to reply. We are going to try more heat treatment post welding. Ive learned alot of what I know from watching your videos then trying it. The inspector im working under wants it welded and wont allow brazing.

One of the best tutorials I’ve seen for beginners like me. Thanks.

Your Arc shots look amazing Jody. It's fun watching the progression of the videos over the years. Glad to be along for the ride

I’m in school now and this helped me tremendously. Subbed! Thank you!

I will hear your voice In my head while welding tonight ..."things are going pretty well".

Lol this is so god damn good. Just sfarting and when you showed the cut i bout almost gave up lol. Thats impressive 😊
Hi Jody. I have a question. I’m a senior in HS learning how to weld, and was wondering if for all your welds you have to pass three times? Does that apply to anything and any weld you’re doing?
I have a question for you. Does the flow of electric through a Welding cable effect the metals in our blood if draped over the shoulder???
Nice welds. I've learned a lot watching your videos. Thank you.
Wouldn't you like to see a little deeper penetration on those welds or is that ideal? I've never did a cut test but I envisioned my weld penetrating a little deeper. Thanks again
7018 just doesnt penetrate all that deep like a 6010 but I do think it penetrated an adequate amount
@@weldingtipsandtricks Its defiantly not going anywhere! However, this would fail a welder qualification test due to lack of penetration.
Is there any benefit to running a 2.5mm 7018 root pass? Great video by the way. By far the best close up shots of a puddle I have ever seen. Respect

Favor the heavy side
So the second weld will cover 2/3 of the the first weld then the third only covers half of the second weld?
Is it true that a 5/32 electrode or larger would penetrate much deeper for single pass weld ? Thanks
