I can absolutely confirm this review and I wish I looked for reviews before buying these. I have been using the Stamp 1 pedals for less than a month of mild trail riding with only a handful of small jumps and drops. The raised spindle body is making the pedals pretty much unusable in choppy terrain. If you add a bit of water and mud to the mix - they become unusable even for pedalling uphill. The left pedal has developed about 1mm of play in the spindle already, while the right one is a bit better, but you can still feel the slightest bit of play in the spindle while trying to move them around with your hand. After changing the pins on the spindle body with 12mm ones the grip is fine, but having to "upgrade" cheap composite pedals to make them usable doesn't make sense.
I do slopestyle and ride dirt jumps, and I have Stamp 1 pedals on my bike. I think they’re fine since I haven’t gone through rocky sections where I could lose grip. Yes, they are a little slippery but i’m fine with that since my feet don’t always land exactly square on the pedals. Great review!
I can second the lack of grip these give, had a pair for over a year. Have held up very well despite a small crack on the outer corner from rocks and gave me no mechanical issues
Bought a pair of these at a shop in Big Bear and after my first ride with them installed, I noticed the slipping issue. Had to put a lot of weight to gain grip. I solved that issue by buying a 100x pack of M3x12mm stainless steel pins from Amazon for 7 bucks. Drop of blue loctite on each bolt, replaced the stock pins, and now I have so much grip even with my beat up 5.10's. I've got a new pair of RC's so I'm stoked to see how they perform with brand new, raised pins.
I’m in the military and I commute sometimes to work in my hybrid bike. I wear boots and even I’m size 8 I bought the larger pedals to accommodate the boots. They have work perfectly. I also ride daily after work and I have never had any issues.
Kona Wha Wha has a similar platform size with no raised center section and a thinner profile. I have been riding them for the last year in all conditions over 1000 miles and have had 0 issues.
I don't ride mountain bikes, in fact quite the opposite. I ride a steel frame single speed bike, and love these pedals. I have big feet and they never caused me any discomfort even in long rides, something that the typical stock pedal did. Regarding grip, zero issues even in the wet. I use normal running type shoes, the soles get a bit of damage from the studs at first but then it's fine. I've had a couple pedal strikes during sharp turns so far in +3000km
sadly, due to the construction being out of nylon, they had to compromise with the specs making the middle part bigger to add resistance and not increase the overall profile. I have the Stamp 2 and 7, and they are grippy as hell. Also, they are pretty much a must for me, since i have a size 13 wide foot, and small pedals cause me a lot of pain due to lack of propper support.
You can greatly improve the grip of these just by replacing the pins at the front and rear with longer ones, they're just m3 cap bolts, I went with 12mm in the center and 16mm at the front and rear because you cant get 14mm ones, then I adjusted them so they protrude 8mm above the pedal body, now they're super grippy, at least on par with my old deity deftraps while being smaller and lighter, I also replaced the stock enduro bearing with a better quality one, and the stock bushing with a HK1012 needle roller bearing.
I've had mine for a year and a half now - purchased October 2021 - and what annoys me is the crackling of the bearings. After 18 months....Really? I went looking if you can replace these, but this is apparently only for their higher tier models. They just look 'cool'. Any suggestion for a better alternative (featuring replaceable bearings would be nice)?
Thanks for the review. Was about to buy these but not now. Thanks! And you wanted tips on your set, more light. You need more light, otherwise, awesome!
Great review. I have the same exact issues with the middle of this beautiful pedals. I have the same sky blue color and they are perfect match with both my bikes. But this issue that I have to keep my feet so high on the pedals, so that I push the cranks with middle arch, it is horrible. I've had multiple slips (with cuts) and they are not convincing compared even to my concaves with no name. Shame. Worst ergonomicly I've ever had, but most beautiful, lightweight & solid.
I have been using the same downhill pedals for 4 years and they are great. I don't understand how someone always makes a negative comment. Ok, everyone is looking for their own perfection in driving, but for me stamp 1 are excellent.
Had them 8-9 months, agree on the ridge reducing grip, lost my footing a couple of times. My left one started creaking like fck last month, not going for another pair.
My left one developed play after minimal use. Went for one long ride, right one then developed play. Sent them back as per warranty for a refund. Bought some Burgtec MK4 Composites, which I should've bought in the first place haha...
I am sorry I didn't see this review before I bought mine. All along I thought my ride concepts didn't have enough grip. Some longer pins should solve this issue though.
i have a bontrager line elite flat pedal and its 5 pounds cheaper than the crankbrothers, my friend has one of these and it just has no grip when i ride his bike for some reason, i have got five tens so its not the shoes fault and on my bontrager it was so grippy i had trouble putting my feet on properly because i would slide my feet on slightly and it would be stuck on in place, but the grip once on the trail is amazing,
I have 500 XC trail miles on Stamp1 pedals and have recently noticed a little play in the pedals. With that play, it make a little noise when pedaling. I like my drive train quite so it drives me crazy. Going to the the Race Face Chesters which is the pedal I have on my enduro bike with over 1500 trouble free miles. I wish I had seen your video before buying but no serious regrets; it is nice to try something different for comparison.
WOW! I was looking at it today in Amazon and was tempted to buy it. However, I was worried about the middle part. It looked higher than the pins. So I went to youtube and searched for reviews. I found your video and my guess was right. I won't buy it anymore. Thank you!
What if you put skateboard grip tape on the high point in the middle? Do you think that would improve the grip? I already bought these pedals and don’t think I have time to get different ones.
I would start with trying to find longer pins if they feel too slippery out of the box. Grip tape may help but on pedal I don’t think it would last very long. Might make for an interesting experiment though.
The problem with these pedals is that the one bearing that's inside has to hold every pressure you put on it. My bearing just ripped out because of to much sideways pressure.
How does that pedal feel underfoot ? Can you feel an uncomfortable bump from the raised nylon middle section or does it feel flat ? I plan to use it on a road touring bike so grip is not so important
Im 5'11, weighing 84kg..bought mine may 2020, i used it for once a week for 2 hours, sometimes 2x a month...yesterday it broke, the build quality of the parts doesnt seem to uphold the brand since it has only 1 small bearing.
Everything you said is spot on, I have some and I can’t wait to get rid of them due to the sliding. AND I have the crank brothers shoes with the match system that’s meant for these pedals.

The Raceface Chesters of course are the benchmark for reliability at this price, not as grippy as the Bontrager pedals but acceptable. Not sure when he put it in there but he notes raceface Chester, and oneup under video. I should have stuck with the Chester's that I had for 2 years, they had way more grip, never squeaked, and were all around solid. Not happy with these at all after 2 months, had to change how my foot is on the pedal to get decent grip and the right one squeaks which annoys the cap out of me. I will probably end up dumping these soon and getting a new color of Chester. Inhave heard really good feedback from people that have the oneup. Crank bros solution when i talked to them was for me to buy the longer set of pins for about $20. No thanks.
Got a pair because I wanted something extra large. Liked the design and shape. Raised axle was slightly weird at first. However they both developed play in the axles after minimal use. Will be returning them under their 5 year warranty.

You could but that wouldn’t fix the pedal strike issue. As I said I do like the pedals for certain types of riding and continue to use them on one of my bikes. They just aren’t as grippy or as durable as many other pedals in the same price range.
I’m gonna get some 12mm pins for them, as a 14 year old having to fork out £50 for a new set of pedals when I just bought these is a big ask, but ye, these are terrible
It's very unusual for a company to mess up a pedal design. These guys have managed !!The spindle is proud of the rest of the pedals so all the weight and feel through your shoes is on the spindle - horrible horrible horrible. And slippy. What's the point of a big pedal when all your weight is on the raised spindle rather than the pedal. I'm sending mine back as I'll never ride them.
There is a possibility with the pedal body to come flying out from the axle. What keeps them together is the ball bearing. Id it were to split, the body WILL come out of the axle. The play is from the bushings (they use bearing at the end of the axle and bushings towards the cranks). The bushings are from extremely low quality plastic. They develop play, start cracking. I have successfully replaced the bushings with HK1012 needle bearing and am thinking of going with HK1014 (have to order and see the clearance with the axle). I use it on my commuter bike, so not really a hard usage, but after like 1km of riding, the play was sooo big it really annoys me, I can feel it in my legs. Just unacceptable, I'm going to return it. Worst pedal I have ever had.
Just don't buy $50 pedals. Race face Chester are not bad but I still wouldn't recommend. I mean for a kid or occasional rider on a cheaper bike it is ok but if you spend 2-3+K on a bike spend another $100-200 and buy yourself good pedals.
Thank you for your review. That middle is deal breaker I was about to buy these pedals and now I wont. Advice about your video is definitely some light on you, you are way to dark.

I use it on my commuter bike, so not really a hard usage, but after like 1km of riding, the play was sooo big it really annoys me, I can feel it in my legs. Just unacceptable, I'm going to return it. Worst pedal I have ever had.
i just got back into mountainbiking after 20 years, the products these days generally are weak
GREAT REVIEW. I have the same pair of Stam1 large blue and THEY ARE TERRIBLE. Extremely low grip. Shame on them for this garbage product.
The video is too dark.
