thanks so much for the info! i just got mine and it’s the first dash cam i’ve ever had. this made it super easy to understand the setup- especially for someone who is new to this.
I agree, every new car seemingly regardless of price category comes with a ton of cameras, radars and sensors to take advantage of safety features and yet they don’t do something as simple as writing that data to a memorycard in the event of airbag deployment. All of this stuff is wired up already and its close to being as simple as just turning the feature on.
Agree. It is weird that Ford doesn't have a native dash camera. I'll be getting one like the Garmin as soon as my truck gets in my hands.

Looks like you got used to working the wiper stalk with your left hand and you can activate the turn signal simultaneously. in a way maybe it makes sense to have one stalk v two so you can use the other hand to manipulate the info center/climate/radio etc. Hmm.... Side note-garmin dashcam is a good choice.
Get the dongar adapter.. That will be the easiest and clean way to get power off your mirror
Plus 1 on the donger adapter, it works great, cleaner install.

The Dongar adapter only works on lower trim/technology packages/non lane assist versions of F150s, as Dongar's adapter is only a 16 pin connector. The higher trim/technology/lane assist packages with F150s use a 14 pin connector.
Run your wire over the driver side headliner, down driver side A pillar, back across under the dash and tuck it in between where the center console dash plastic meets the carpet and up into your USB. The wire won’t be exposed at all like this, just a suggestion. There’s a panel cover tool you can buy cheap to tuck it into tighter places that works great.

Damn that’s some jacket lol. Good video btw. I suggest getting the polarized lenses cover from Garmin. Makes a big difference in video quality and reduces glare and get the Dongar. No running wires.
Order the polarized lens cover for it. $ 20 on Amazon.
Good idea to cut the glare, but it already seems a bit dark at night, is it usable at night with the polarized lens?
Get the dongal technology adapter and plug it into the rear view mirror

Yea, it records continuously once you start the car. It will start overwriting itself after a few hours depending on how big of a memory card you have. The record button is just to save a short clip and keep it from getting overwritten.

I think so, it’s cheap, and easy to set up. Also available at local stores like Best Buy and Target so easy to return if it doesn’t work out

Nope. They have a cloud option I believe but I don’t use it.
Is it me or is the dashcam footage very dark?
Many dash cams will turn their self off as it heats up during long periods of recording. Does this one turn it self off?
It hasn't turned off on me. I don't see any mention of auto shutoff, but it is rated for full sun exposure in hot climates.
This dashcam installation is dangerous, the wire needs to be routed behind the curtain airbag which in this case it isn't, it crosses over it as it goes over the pillar.
Leaving it like this either turns that dashcam that smashes your passenger in the face in an accidental, or it could prevent the airbag from inflating.
