DC 57: • Video
DC67W: • Garmin Dash Cam 67W
Best UA-cam product review I’ve ever seen. Great job!
Great video for non techies. Just enough info on each product. The frame on the technical differences sold me on the 57.
Thanks for the comparison! Well done and easily understood.
Thanks for the overview, very straight forward. One suggestion would be to upload your content in at least a 1440p so we can actually see the difference in capture quality. Its all just 1080p 🤷♂😂
Thanks for the video. I just bought the 47 on friday as my first real standalone dash camera thats not a weird afterthought on a GPS tablet. It's been great so far and I really like all of the cool features.
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback, AJ.
HOw it is with Lane tracking?
@@shabeenak5653 I have it mounted so far forward on my dash that I usually can't see the screen. I also can't hear the warning over engine and road noise but I use it in my semi truck so it wouldn't be like that in all uses.
Excellent review, thank you!
Great informative video. Many thanks
Great work, I do appreciate the info provided in this video. Thanks!
Very informative video....thanks.
Hi Eric, thank you for the fantastic video you posted. I watch all your videos related to the Garmin Dash Cameras, and I think I might purchase a Garmin Dash Cam 57.
Just curious;
If I plug it in and I continuously supply power to the Garmin Dash Cam 57 via a Portable-Charger-Power-Bank when the car is parked and the engine is off, will the Parking Guard feature continue to function, and be activated and recording?
Yes, absolutely! That's why the constant power cable exists. :)
Awesome commentary 💯❤️👍
Hello. Is the 67w 1440 60fps recording video? Thanks.
Good stuff. One thing Garmin should've capitalized on is USB-C connection, that way they wouldn't have to include additional stuff that'll end up lost. 😅
I will ask a good question though.
How many of these cameras can you have simultaneously connected in the Drive app?
I want to run 3 for forward, left rear and right rear in my truck. Since they have voice command for saving video, I can save all 3 directions at the same time... Priceless for being able to prove situational conditions during an event investigation.
Just purchased the 67W. Video very informative
Glad it helped!
30 or 60 fps has nothing to do with if it's blurry or not. It's the shutter time that depends on. A longer shutter is open, the more blurry it's going to be, but also more light enters the sensor.
nice review. am new to dash cams. without the Garmin drive app, what features do i have and how do I access video footage? thanks

Hi, I have a Mini 2 and I was wondering if it's possible to have the speed display on it at the bottom left just like you had it displayed on your DC47 in the video! I can't find any settings on the app on how I could turn that on.
Hey Rulz, there is a setting you can look for in the Garmin Drive App called Data Overlay. This may be where you find the feature you're looking for. Here's a Garmin Support article with more details: www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/GUID-8EFC497C-4031-46EE-AC26-B0AE4B3CE8BD/EN-US/GUID-C53194AF-C021-440F-8672-5CEA7CACAE4D.html
Thank you for this! I have a minivan, so the entire trunk door lifts - including the windshield... Where would i stick the device? I mean because of the cord. Sorry, i realize it's not specifically a Garmin Q. Also debating between 2 67W or 1 mini for the back - what do you think please?
Great question! The beauty of these dash cams is you have a sticky magnetic strip that you will stay on your windshield. If you have to lift your windows, simply detach the dash cam and reattach when you are ready to hit the road again.
Great vid. Please I'm looking for a dash cam that starts recording anytime at my request in my stationary truck (without necessarily starting the engine. Which dash cam brand would you recommend?
Garmin offers a Contant Power Cable that would feed constant power to any of our Dashcams with out the need to turn on the truck. Here is a link showing you what I am referring to. www.garmin.com/en-US/p/735279#devices
Great vid. Please I'm looking for a dash cam that starts recording anytime at my request in my stationary truck (without necessarily starting the engine. Which dash cam brand would you recommend? The only downside of Garmin is no rear cam.
Hello, Garmin offers a Constant Power Cable that would feed constant power to any of the dashcams we currently offer. This would allow you to record without your truck needing to be on. Here is a link. If you are interested please contact us at info@technorv.com and we can help you with this. www.garmin.com/en-US/p/735279#devices
This is an awesome video
Is it possible to install 2 different Garmin Mini 2's (one front, one rear let's say) and have them both work using their app?

Wondering what the operational time is if one were using it with the car power off for say recording while at a traffic stop where you would be required to have the engine turned off
Like many of the Garmin product lines the unit will automatically shut off shortly after it looses power. Garmin did think of this and offers a solution. They offer a constant power block that will bypass this and allow your dash cam to continue monitoring.

Do any of these have any functionality that works with the Garmin RV GPS 890?
Hey Robert, great question! All of our Garmin Dash Cams are stand-alone units. You can certainly power your Dash Cam with the 890 model.
very nice vid, thanks
@technorv - what WIFI hotspot solution would you recommend to enable the vault feature? I’m having a hard time finding a hardwired/constantly powered hotspot option for my 2022 RAM. I’d like to use AT&T as my service provider while staying away from their OBD port option. Remote viewing is very important to me in my decision of this versus BlackVue. Suggestions?

I use the Netgear Nighthawk 4 in my semi (runs on AC tho) and have my DC47 to automatically upload to the vault since it's always connected to WiFi.
Well done and helpful
👌
I am also thinking to get 47. i am just oconcern with storage of videos on Vault? Does it really loud for lane track?
I'm sorry Shabeena, I'm not sure I understand the question. Please reach out to our 5-Star Support Team for help. We've got you!
Dude ... man I can't thank you enough!!!!
So glad we were able to help you!
You mentioned speed and location is available on the screen if you turn it on. Can the "tracks" be downloaded and brought into Garmin Base Camp?
Great Question! It doesnt appear that is an option. The Garmin base camp is compatible with many of Garmins devices but from everything I am seeing the dash cams cant offer that feature. So, I reached out to Garmin and the support team there verified it wasnt possible.
the 57 only shoot 60fps at 1080p, 1440p is at 30
how long are the cords on the 67w because how my trucc is set up i have to plug it into the sleeper area 12volt,

Thanks for the review!
Can you turn off the screen of these cameras for example during night driving?
Hi Alexander! Yes, this is a normal setting that you can select to put your Dash Cam into a standby mode. Of course it will light up if the camera detects an event that might cause it to start recording. You can also turn down your sensitivity level if you notice it still wants to light up and record when you really dont want it to.
@@Technorv Thanks!
Awesome video!
Does the cameras display on the screen what the camera is seeing while driving or is it just a black screen while driving? Thank you

I have the 47 camera. For about the first minute or so, the screen shows what the camera sees. After that, there is a message and then the screen goes black (while still recording).
I have had the Garmin 45 dash camera for seven years. And now it is obsolete so about two cameras for my Nissan 370 Z the Garmin 57. I can unpackaged my box myself. Why don’t you post a post of how to program them to work with everything?
Is there a way to mount or sit it on the dash. It's illegal in my state to attach to the windshield
Garmin does offer an after market suction cup mount that you could use to mount on your dash. www.garmin.com/en-US/p/622582#devices . We offer bean bag mounts on our site that are fantastic!!
Are there benefits (resolution/capture) of the 67W over the 57? I've seen varying comments.

It’s 1440 30 fps or 1080 60fps but which is best
Great question! 1440 is higher resolution, so that's the best option as far as photo/video quality, however, 60 fps (frames per second) is better at capturing quick movements than 30 fps.
Dashcams get hot behind windshields especially during summer. Have you noticed any heat related problems with any of these units?
The magnet mounting system is a big improvement over the older suction cup mounts.
Yes, I just subscribed & rang the notification bell. The 57 is the one I'm considering.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
Hello,
Actually, no! These are designed to withstand the hot temps.
the mini 2 could record offline, if ya wire it up to an external battery. This way, you don't have to worry about draining your actual car battery
For all of you that say gps can be used as evidence?.....Don't forget it can be used as evidence against the lying police officer which can happen. And happened to me once! I was accused of driving 90mph when I was driving with flow of traffic in 3rd lane, thank God i had dashcam, as soon as I mentioned it, officer dropped his argument
Wow!
can you read car plates with any of them?!

The 30 FPS and the 60FPS have nothing to do with blur. That’s the shutter speed of the camera. All having higher FPS does would be to allow you do more with slow motion in post editing. Most videos are exported and watched at either 24fps or 30fps. Having 60fps does not give you better video quality. The higher resolution gives you higher quality video
Thanks for the clarification!
Higher FPS provides a smoother playback on action video. Hence why most (60+ FPS) are called “sport” or “action” mode.
@@RyanReddell our eyes and brain perceive 24fps as natural not 60 fps. The “smoothness” you’re talking about is not natural to the human brain and eyes. It makes it look artificial not “smoother”.
Where did you learn this? 24fps is perceived by our brain as a series of very fast images, that’s why most movies look the way they look. Human eye can see up to 90Hz (fps if you like) and more. 60fps is more lifelike and smooth to a human eye. Does 60fps have any benefits for a dash cam? Only with crazy fast movement, because there’s more chance to catch a license plate in between the frames. So I would say there’s no real benefit other that the footage looking smooth and more like real life.
@@jamesf3382 the human eye can see up to 90hz but that is not what our eyes perceive movement as in its natural form. In its natural form, we see things at 24fps. That’s what is most natural for us as humans to see. This is why things at 60 fps looks weird to many people almost like it’s ai generated. It is almost to smooth in comparison to what we see naturally. This also only is part of the issue. Shutter speed is another major factor. If the shutter speed isn’t proper to what the frame rate is, it looks wrong because it has the I correct amount of motion blur
You make no mention on any of your reviews that with this 6-sided magnetic mount, the camera can be remounted in the same EXACT position IF a person carefully removes it by pulling on the part that holds the magnet, not the camera.
Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
I think they all have one camera not two correct.

Picture quality in that still image comparing them all is pretty terrible. Maybe Garmin is reliable which is extremely important, but not sure the image quality is much good.
Transferring even the shortest of vids on the mini 2 is painful.
Hi Kimberly! We would love to help you with your product. If you would reach out to us at info@technorv.com we can dive deeper into why you might be having issues.
Please because I called Garmin myself.
Informative but....your wife is looking at where you're going on her phone rather than.....looking out the window??!!. The mini 2 is discreet, that's good. The mini 2 does not have a screen, that's fantastic. You should be paying attention to the road. Besides ...how much detail are you going to see on a tiny scree. Lastly...the mini 2 does not have GPS. That's preferable. Ya see...if you're recording exactly where you are and how fast you're going...it can and will be used as evidence against you. If you turn off the GPS on one of the three models....you will be drilled in court and have to explain why. So...if you don't want to incriminate yourself...get the mini 2.
It can be used as evidence against the lying police officer which happens frequently! And happened to me once! I was accused of driving 90mph when I was driving with flow of traffic in 3rd lane, thank God i had dashcam, as soon as I mentioned it, officer dropped his argument
You must be a criminal type person. Lol. I have had a gps dash cam for years. Helped with two accidents but the number one all time win and made it worth every penny. Going through a nasty two year custody battle with the ex. Caught her with a stolen car and the video and gps satay was used in court against her and made my case a slam dunk.
don’t have to explain why you turned something off that’s not how the justice system works.
These are not worth the asking prices. There are dozens of better cams out there for far less.
Good video, nonetheless
Just got the 57 wow the Garmin drive is the worst app I have evere used camere connects to phone and app app cannot see phone piece of
Terrible, the Worst experience I have Had with so called technology.
the Garmin Dash Cameras do NOT , do NOT accept just any micro SD card. My 57 did NOT come with an sd card, as stated.
my mini2 does not promise an SD card. The Dash Cameras should come with acceptable working sd cards.
and No mention of Needing a smart phone to use the dash cameras . BAD BAD BAD.
Hi Dave. We hate that you've had such a bad experience with the dash cameras. The DC57 should have come with a 16GB SD Card, so please give us a call and we will take care of that! As for the required use of a phone to operate the camera, the Mini2 is the only unit that does not have a screen and must be used with the Garmin app. All other models allow you to operate the camera without the app, although it does make it easier for some people. If you could contact us at info@technorv.com or 866-324-7915, we will love to help with your issues.
