    dont take this wrong, but I am slightly glad you are having issues. you got that beautiful truck at such a great price that I was so upset with the cheap shop truck I bought that been a nightmare for me to keep running. I was mad jealous and have no doubt you'll get it back to life and have a great truck while I do not. Thanks for sharing the good and the bad.

    Looking forward to this fix-up, Austin. Right now the engine sounds like the engine in the African Queen (Humphrey Bogart). Maybe it just needs a kick? Oh, and leave the mistakes in. Some slick YT mechanics act like they never dropped a bolt or scrapped a knuckle.

    Man thats awesome. Im looking at some.salvaged cummins right now. Just bought 2002 used in decent shape with rust off craigslist as my first truck. Had to put a little money in it to get it reliable for me. I prob paid a little too much but i do have service records from new. Oil changed every 5000.

    I like the live troubleshooting videos. A lot of folks shy away from Burn and Flood cars. I have always found them to be fun projects. Its like you have to be a forensic detective to find all the gremlins..
    Injector timing was my first thought from the way it acted, but unless there is evidence of a part change that could affect that, its really not likely to change. (unless these engines are different, I never worked on a Cummins)
    I am looking forward to more on this series. Thanks for your videos.

    Sorry I'm so behind on your videos. I can send you a Dodge FSM for that truck. I know a lot about those rides, and that powertrain. I'm sure you made some progress since you posted this. Cummins has a barring tool that goes in the bellhousing adapter. I slap a socket on the alternator and turn it clockwise to turn the engine over. CPS is on the drivers side timing case cover. It bolts in from the back. Not a lot of fun to get to since the drivers side is so busy with steering, fuel injection, etc. I think it would be worthwhile to pull the valve cover off and have a visual at the valve train. Won't cost you anything other than some time. If it happened to ingest some water there is always a possibility of bent pushrods or even breaking the cam, or sheering the gear off the cam, hence the P0341. Firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  5 років тому

      I somehow missed this comment, but I would love access to a FSM. If you have a digital copy my email is acthecarguy@gmail.com I have made some progress on it since I posted it, but sadly she is still not running. I learned about the barring tool and that is an interesting design, but I like your idea of turning the alternator more. I have pulled the valve cover off and drained the oil and there is no evidence of water anywhere, which is nice. The oil sample is out for testing and I should know more soon, but it did slightly smell of fuel (but wasn't above the fill line) and I have blocked off the individual injectors and verified the number 6 cylinder was leaking badly. I have verified the lift pump is building good pressure, the CP3 is also building good pressure, and the FCA is working fine. Everything is pointing to multiple bad injectors but I am waiting on the oil sample results and more block off caps so I can compression test the rest of the cylinders (number 6 has great compression) before I bite the bullet and order new ones. I always seem to learn something new from your comments and they are much appreciated. If you have any opinions on what injectors to use I would love to hear them. Right now I am leaning towards all new Bosch units with the updated tubes and new fuel lines from injectors direct.

      Hahaha! I've owned a bunch of different rigs, I LOVE Fords, but I haven't loved their diesel choices since the 7.3PS. I had a 6.0 that I loved except for the fuel mileage and EGR issues, as well as an older 6.9IDI that I loved except for the lack of power. I was using a 6.5 Diesel Suburban for a while, but the AC was terrible and it was so slow (and the wife didn't like that it clattered like it was trying to kill itself).

      Have you driven the ford 6.7? It’s a fantastic motor and it’s built by Ford!

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  5 років тому

      @@rodfatherschopshop6004 Funny you mentioned that, my buddy who races a Dodge that is similar to mine uses a 6.7 to tow his Cummins race truck. He also has my old 6.0 Ford. He says the 6.7 is the new 7.3 and way better than the 6.4. The only bad thing I have heard is the fuel mileage. What are your thoughts on it?

    • @rodfatherschopshop6004
      @rodfatherschopshop6004 5 років тому

      Austin. The horsepower is 475 and torque is 1050 on the 2020 3rd gen motor. It’s been around for 9 years at this point and has very few problems. Out of the big 3 ford is the only one making their own Diesel engine. The one complaint is the gas mileage is not great but 1050 ft pounds of torque who cares! Ford was under contract with international and they rushed out 6.0 and then really rushed the 6.4 which I think was much worse then the 6.0. Long story short.. it’s a great motor. That’s why your buddy has a ford pulling his Cummins race truck! The only good part of that 2500 you bought is the Cummins under the hood. Keep up the great videos and happy new year!

    • @AustinCoulson
      @AustinCoulson  5 років тому

      @@rodfatherschopshop6004 Thanks for the info. I am far more interested in reliability and longevity than I am HP and TQ (at least with a tow rig), I will keep an eye out for a 6.7 to play around with at some point as you are the second person to mention that option. Honestly, I haven't been following the diesels carefully after hearing so many complaints on the 6.4 Ford and 6.7 Dodge (only complaints on the Dodge were price on parts and fuel economy) I liked the Duramax, but the front ends on the 4wd can't seem to stay put together. I will finish the Dodge and then make the decision to sell it and keep the Ecoboost until I can find something else, or switch to the Dodge, at least for a while to see how I like it.
