Holy shit, could you imagine if Mike missed this show and it was fucking Rico hosting? Folks are upset enough already, that would have been gasoline on a flame.
As to the point, I'll actually be happy with some changes with the coaching staff. One thing I will say about Dan Campbell is that while he can be stubborn, he's not one of those coaches that thinks he's always the smartest guy in the room. He is willing to grow, and I hope he does grow from this. I'm fine with him continuing to be Dan Gamble, but as another Gambler said, "You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away." I hope he gets some guys on the sidelines willing to challenge his philosophy and temper that passion. Because oh man, they could really have something special here if they don't screw it up.

Flat out quit running the ball. It's exactly why we went the other direction. They only ran the ball eight times in the second half. It's almost like they took the foot off the gas.
You had Aaron Glenn who would no longer call early down pressure and needed to justify running a base defense for the better part of the second half. Which allowed purdy get back into the game and get a rhythm

My heart goes out to all Lions fans today. As a Bengals fan, I can honestly say it seems like all of America wanted the Lions to win and go all the way. Valenti is right once again… the Lions didn’t just lose the NFC, they lost the Lombardi… this year they were Americas team - not the Wolverines. Here’s to the 313! You had a helluva year.

This loss was right out of the 'Dan Quinn Falcons super bowl meltdown loss to the Pats playbook'. How the only way you can lose a game is -> with bad coaching decisions. And like the Falcons, the Lions will probably never recover from this. At least not this Lions team.

Lets be real, no-one thought the Lions were going to make it this far. 12-5, TWO playoff wins, and a division title. The Lions have 60 million dollars in cap space and this team is built to last. The team had less experience than the 49ers. But yes, they made considerable mistakes. If people want to jump ship now, good riddance. You either believe in Brad Holmes, or you don't. The Lions need to address how to handle a mobile QB. Also, get another pass rusher, and for fuck sake, get a corner. I'm proud of this team. And I guarantee this team is in a better place than more than half the other teams out there.

Exactly. Thank you. Quit crying everyone. To add just one thing: the defense has struggled, yes, but only because Holmes and company have so far focused more on building an amazing offense. The defense isn't trash, it's just not there yet. Dry your tears and realize that we're in great shape, still building, and ahead of schedule.

This second half problem could have been forecasted. The Lions were 5th and the 49ers were 3rd in scoring this season. The problem for the Lions Ben Johnson run offense is they don't score much in the 3rd quarter of games. In fact they were ranked only 20th in 3rd quarter scoring. So with the 49ers getting the ball to start the second half and the Lions predictable flatness in the 3rd quarter all this played out by the numbers. The media ask Campbell mid-season about this problem of not scoring in the 3rd quarter. He did not want to talk about it. Well, they didn't fix it and it cost them the trip to a SB. Maybe the Commanders will ask Ben Johnson why his offense comes out flat in the second half of games. Go Lions!

I thought for just a few minutes, that I was about to witness my fairytale ending to this season. The Chiefs vs the Lions in the Super Bowl. Beat the champs in game 1 and then in the Big Game. And then I watched one of the most painful quarters of football I've ever seen. The entire quarter was mistakes. Fumbles, missed catches, bad calls. I'm proud of these Lions, but I'm not proud of that quarter. It was a historic season, with a rough ending. But I think we will continue to fill the gaps in the offseason. I won't say Goff was flawless, but he had a helluva game. He's not to blame.

  • @satchelraidincoming636
    @satchelraidincoming636 8 місяців тому +2

My issue is that the second half looked exactly like the the Lions I have spent the last 30+ years watching. I counted at least 9 major game altering screwups in the second half.
Not kicking the first FG... Then dropping the 4th down conversion. Then a dropped int that leads directly to a TD. Then a fumble on the first play from the LoS. Then a dropped TD on a flea flicker. Then a dropped 3rd down conversion . Interdespersed in there were two over thrown passes to Laporta one of which was a TD and the other was probably a TD but at least inside the 3.
And they were mistakes on both dies of teh ball and both on and off the field of play...
Not saying they ARE the SOL, but that second half looked the part. Campbell gets the benefit of the doubt, but if they noticably regress next season (don't win the division and go 1 and done in the wild card or miss the playoffs) , he's on the hot seat in 2025 after that collapse.
That all being said... there is reason to believe. Brad Holmes he is going to find talent. He has found talent and will find more. Its on Campbell now. And lets get real. If Goff wants top 3 QB money begining in 2025... and they give it to him then next year is the best shot the Lions are likely to have.

  • @steve7929
    @steve7929 8 місяців тому +1

Montgomery was having a hell of a game they should have kept giving him the ball instead of trying to get Gibbs going. On top of that if Holmes went out and got more help like the 49ers did it would have helped. Got to take the points in the playoffs as well. Holmes and Campbell will hopefully learn from this and get us over the hump

No championship is easy and Sewell is right that the regular season means nothing. There's no consolation prize here, other than the more you lose, the tougher you get for the next time it's time to win, and why hope continues.

Bad tackling, dropped passes, the fumble, not taking the points, and poor clock management down the stretch all were a part of why the Lions lost. Too many fundamental errors were made. They were plenty good enough to win but they didn't deserve to.

One is less than 5 yds from end zone and second is beyond 50 yd fgs but not a good punt zone. Take the pts!!!! Dropped passes are at least 30% at fault. 10 % each for the fumble and the vildor header. Wtaf vildor? I’m more emotional about that one because it’s the most lions thing I’ve seen all year

This is by far the worst coached half of a game in any major sport ever. The only argument even close would be the Falcons, but that wasn’t them that was Brady. As a Michigan Football fan I have turned off plenty of games but not once in my life have I turned off a Lions game…MCDC threw away a game 88.9% to win, just to prove what a “tough guy” he is…. and everybody sits there and says yeah he got us there but who fucking cares just cause we’re there doesn’t mean you need to shit the bed on purpose.

You can blame Ben Johnson for randomly going away from what worked in the first half. All of them showed up in the first though. Everyone is so mad at Reynolds but why isn't Goff going to someone else in those important situations. Go to Jamo. Go to St. Brown. Go to LaPorta. Goff went to a Superbowl and he didn't lead this team when we needed him most. Goff missed many throws this game and was leaving his receivers to get killed. He missed TD passes, he took terrible sacks. He had his worst game of the playoffs. Purdy showed up though. He was difference maker. When is Goff going to be a difference maker and not just average every game. You can't have all these weapons and just be average.

Because logic would say otherwise. Maybe you kick the 2nd one maybe but the play was successful, Reynolds dropped it after we still 24-10, everything after that was not DC fault other events occured.

Rico lol I can barely listen to this guy.
There are things that must be accounted for over “taking the points.” No particular order:
    1. A dropped 4th down pass. Reynolds can’t do it. This is the NFL.
    2. Niners caught fortuitous bounce of face mask. Should have been a pick by us.
    3. Fumbled ball after Gibbs went on wrong side of Goff.
    4. 3rd down drop by Reynolds which lead to 4th down incompletion.
    5. Horrible finish and open field tackling in the 2nd half.
    6. Purdy scrambles not accounted for somehow. Where were the adjustments by Aaron Glenn?
    7. (Possibly) Jameo’s drop. People like Moss/Megatron etc make the catch.
Lol “taking the points” on a 48 yarder isn’t just taking the points.
To put the majority of this on Campbell is unreal. People just looking to blame him hahaha get the fuck outta here.

This is SOL and a repeat of 91. They will have a harder schedule, going to lose one or two coaches, and will probably finish 5-12 or 6-11 next year. Just like they did in 92. Everyone says this is the first time they have this kind of talent. They had this level or better in 91. The lions of the 90s made several wild card rounds but only got to the NFC championship game once. This was their chance, things will change making it harder next year. Don't forget the Packers look great now and the Bears looked much better by the end of the season. The SOL from the past would set records like these lions did, most points given up for a comeback in a championship (17), most unanswered points in an NFC championship game (24). The worst part is how embarrassingly bad they looked. Dropped passes, no tackling, bad offensive play calling, bad HC decisions. I haven't liked Aaron Glenn's defense all year, but he called a great game, the players just quit tackling. This verified to everyone outside of Detroit that the Lions are SOL.

The Lions tried to put the ball in Goff's hands after the first half and got wrecked. The running game was destroying the 49ers particularly Montgomery running up the middle and Gibbs running on the outside. Lions went away from that and tried to let Goff eat and it ended horribly. This has happened on multiple occasions this year and this time it costs us in the biggest game. Goff is not that guy, he is dependent on everything else around him. Brock Purdy stepped up where was Goff? Non existent until the last drive. Padding his stats.

If this was a serious franchise that is serious about winning a lombardi then Dan Campbell would be in the unemployment line today. And before anyone tries to call me an idiot and refer back to the 2 playoff games we won, were those wins due to Campbell or the supporting cast that he has? He doesn't call offensive plays, Ben Johnson does. He doesnt acquire the players, Brad Holmes does. What value does Dan Campbell actually bring to the Lions? How will this team look after Ben Johnson gets a HC job?

Hard not to call you an idiot I'm sorry you need to figure out why he is so valuable I won't waste energy writing a thesis to you about why DC is the foundation and the main reason the lions accomplished what they did.

“Brand New Lions” my ass. That was as SOL as it gets. That was 28-3 bad. These players and fans were WAY too cocky. These clips are music to my ears. Congrats on being the 2017 Jaguars. That’s about it.
