    I disagree about the landscape, I think you have a lovely touch and I am also in awe of how - suddenly - your picture develops perspective and the tree nestles into the frame. I'm learning such a lot from you Helen, thank you!

    So happy you used Neocolors! I have them and haven’t really used them like that! You know I’m going to step into my Neo colors soon! I’m hesitant to make a pallet, but with this encouragement I Wii Try! I’m also avoiding the art store, and need to use what I have! Thanks. Karen Dirmish, learner!

      I think they're so versatile! If you make your palette, and let the paints soak longer than I did, you can get even creamier, more opaque paint too.

    I started sharpening my crayons into little containers from our dollar store. I love mixing my own colors and you are correct, the set is lacking a dark green that doesn’t have a lot of blue in it.

    Great idea of taking the crayons and placing them into a palette, and using a sharpener to make shaving!!!

    It was good to see you use your Neocolor II paint palette. I then checked to see my Neocolor II paint palette. Mine wasn’t moldy or anything since I didn’t use water in the process to make the palette. I used a heat tool to warm up and soften the pieces of Neocolor II which I then pushed into my palette with my fingers. Nice landscape. ❤

    I'm glad you revisited these... I had been wondering how they would work out long-term (whether they would last). I like the way you also use the original stick form for details... a great way to keep the palette cohesive!

      Ah good! I think the paints could have been a bit more opaque too, if I'd allowed them to soak a little longer.

    I liquefied mine in dropper bottles. I don't recommend it, but it worked. Then I pour it into pans. That worked beautifully. I thought about sharpening them and wasn't sure about cleaning the sharpener. The painting turned out pretty. I'm in Illinois,US, so the scene is very welcoming as we brace for a big snow tomorrow.

    That’s great that you were able to rewet the neocolour 2s and use them after this much time! Lovely landscape 😊. I’ve never sharpened my neocolour 2s, I think I’d have to buy a dedicated sharpener as I’m not sure I have one free and wouldn’t want to use the same ones I use for pencils.

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  10 місяців тому +2

    Loved the landscape. It’s interesting that you were able to use neocolor 2 from a dried pallet. I didn’t have such good results with my gouache dried pallet. It didn’t rewet well. It absorbed the water but remained crumbly. Maybe it was the brand.
    Your work is lovely! ❤

    I know if you want to have a dry wash palette. If you add a little bit of blending medium into the wet paint when it dries out, it doesn’t crack and split out, learned that as a tip from a few other artists, I wonder if this could work for theseor maybe even some glycerin or gum Arabic I like to use clothes oil it smells amazing

    Are neocolors IIs staining enough to be used in layering? Or after a single wash, you can't paint over without mixing the layer underneath?

    • @GreenSharpieScience
      @GreenSharpieScience 10 місяців тому

      I’ve found they generally will mix with the next applied layer like gauche or watercolors but they’re still a lot of fun.

    • @helencryer

      Yes, the under layers will lift a bit when painted over - they aren't heavily staining.

      A tip: Use ist on Pastelmat, a thin wash for the first layer, the second layer a little bit more opaque and then I dip my Neocolors in water and make highlights. It looks like softpastel, but without to be dusty. I hate the dust of soft pastels. I love them so much ❤
