I disagree about the landscape, I think you have a lovely touch and I am also in awe of how - suddenly - your picture develops perspective and the tree nestles into the frame. I'm learning such a lot from you Helen, thank you!
So happy you used Neocolors! I have them and haven’t really used them like that! You know I’m going to step into my Neo colors soon! I’m hesitant to make a pallet, but with this encouragement I Wii Try! I’m also avoiding the art store, and need to use what I have! Thanks. Karen Dirmish, learner!
At first I was thinking, "Nah, I don't really care for these gouache's." But like magic, you've turned it into an amazing scenic painting that I love. Keep up the wonderful work Helen!
The way you layer your materials in every piece is super inspiring. I picked up my soft pastels the other week and used them in a piece so thanks for that little confidence boost!
I started sharpening my crayons into little containers from our dollar store. I love mixing my own colors and you are correct, the set is lacking a dark green that doesn’t have a lot of blue in it.
It was good to see you use your Neocolor II paint palette. I then checked to see my Neocolor II paint palette. Mine wasn’t moldy or anything since I didn’t use water in the process to make the palette. I used a heat tool to warm up and soften the pieces of Neocolor II which I then pushed into my palette with my fingers. Nice landscape. ❤
I'm glad you revisited these... I had been wondering how they would work out long-term (whether they would last). I like the way you also use the original stick form for details... a great way to keep the palette cohesive!
I liquefied mine in dropper bottles. I don't recommend it, but it worked. Then I pour it into pans. That worked beautifully. I thought about sharpening them and wasn't sure about cleaning the sharpener. The painting turned out pretty. I'm in Illinois,US, so the scene is very welcoming as we brace for a big snow tomorrow.
The picture is great and really shows what the Neocolors can do. I need to try to remember to save the shavings. For me the big set of Neocolor 2’s that I purchased this year was one of my better decisions!! I love them.
Thank you for this video Helen. I received a set of Neocolor II crayons and a simple palette for the shavings for Christmas and appreciate watching you work with them as crayons and as paint. Appreciate watching you create art!
That’s great that you were able to rewet the neocolour 2s and use them after this much time! Lovely landscape 😊. I’ve never sharpened my neocolour 2s, I think I’d have to buy a dedicated sharpener as I’m not sure I have one free and wouldn’t want to use the same ones I use for pencils.
Loved the landscape. It’s interesting that you were able to use neocolor 2 from a dried pallet. I didn’t have such good results with my gouache dried pallet. It didn’t rewet well. It absorbed the water but remained crumbly. Maybe it was the brand. Your work is lovely! ❤
That's a shame! I got on pretty well with my dried gouache palette - I did a video on it here, in case you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/XAYB6jQKlaw/v-deo.html
I also save peels of Neocolor 2 in the clear box for pills. Each small container to every color of 50 crayons. Love them and can't afford just throwing them up.
I know if you want to have a dry wash palette. If you add a little bit of blending medium into the wet paint when it dries out, it doesn’t crack and split out, learned that as a tip from a few other artists, I wonder if this could work for theseor maybe even some glycerin or gum Arabic I like to use clothes oil it smells amazing
gorgeous little landscape as always :)! i wanted to ask if you could restate the anti fungal oil you used for the wells? i’ve been thinking of getting my own neocolors and their pan colors are just so beautiful!
Olá. Gpsteri do seu video. Você conhece a melhor. forma de proteger as pinturas com o Carand'ache neocolor II ? Para que a tinta fique seca e nao saia ou se dissolva , em algum incidente, facilmente?
A tip: Use ist on Pastelmat, a thin wash for the first layer, the second layer a little bit more opaque and then I dip my Neocolors in water and make highlights. It looks like softpastel, but without to be dusty. I hate the dust of soft pastels. I love them so much ❤

Aww thank you - that's really nice of you!
Painting and aromatherapy, blissed out! 🧘🏼♀️Beautiful painting.
Haha, thanks!
I love your landscape.. and I love how you use your materials and your playful creativity. Not only in this video. Your flow always makes me smile ☺️
Aww, thank you! 😊

I think they're so versatile! If you make your palette, and let the paints soak longer than I did, you can get even creamier, more opaque paint too.

That's a nice idea!
Great idea of taking the crayons and placing them into a palette, and using a sharpener to make shaving!!!
Using a sharpener is definitely the way to go for this!

Oh that sounds great! I think I made mine in the least efficient and messiest way possible!! At least it still worked!
Loved this Helen!! Thanks so much for sharing! It's beautiful!❤️🥰💥
Aww, thank you!!

Ah good! I think the paints could have been a bit more opaque too, if I'd allowed them to soak a little longer.
I have a small 10 color set and I’m absolutely dying to get more colors. I feel like I’ll turn into Gollum for these 😂😂😂😂
😂 I understand the impulse!!
Love the picture, I think sharpening the neocolours into a palette is such a good idea! X
It's definitely a nice bit of fun!
So beautiful landscapes😊❤
Thanks!

That sounds very impressive!
Good luck with the snow!!
Lovely painting. Very inspiring.
Thank you!
I’m first again. I cannot believe my luck this year, I need to play the lottery 😂.
😂

Oooo - the big set 😍 They're pretty fun, aren't they?!
@@helencryerThey are awesome and the tin weighs a ton!!😂😂
😂
Nice little landscape. I love the little building on the left as we view the painting.
Thank you!!

Thank you!! Hope you really enjoy them!
Lovely sketch. I need to learn how to do that with my Neocolor 2 pastels.
Thank you!
this looks fantastic ☺☺
oh my goodness.. what a cool idea, thanks for sharing Helen
Thanks!
so much to "grab " in this short video thanks for sharing .
Thanks!

I just used the same sharpener I use for pencils! I figured any Neocolor 2 residue will just come off on the outer sharpenings of the next pencil.
@@helencryer That’s true enough! I’ll give that a go!

I have yet to sharpen my Neocolor II so this looks like a great idea to repurpose the shavings 🎉❤
A drop of clove bud oil also stops mould forming 😁
Yes, I think lots of essential oils have anti fungal properties! (I used to work in an Aromatherapy shop, and spent ages smelling all the oils!)
I also save peels of Neocolor 2 in the clear box for pills. Each small container to every color of 50 crayons. Love them and can't afford just throwing them up.
Pill boxes! That's genius!!
I really like what you did today and wondering why you don't do more paintings here on UA-cam? ❤
Thanks! I do have quite a few videos where I am doing paintings!

That's interesting, thank you! I haven't heard of blending medium before!
@@helencryer me either I only found out through watching a few other UA-camrs that came across the same issue and they tried it.

Thanks! I used 100% Pure Essential Oil - Rose Geranium
Tea Tree works and is less expensive. I bet it smells romantic when you open your palette❤
I suspect eucalyptus would work too.
Many essential oils have anti-fungal properties - I just picked Rose Geranium because I prefer the smell!
😍

I read online that you can use an oil pastel spray fixative on them, but I've never tried it myself, sorry.
Are neocolors IIs staining enough to be used in layering? Or after a single wash, you can't paint over without mixing the layer underneath?
I’ve found they generally will mix with the next applied layer like gauche or watercolors but they’re still a lot of fun.
Yes, the under layers will lift a bit when painted over - they aren't heavily staining.
