Dan Coggins, who you may know from Lovetone fame or as designer for ThorpyFX, has revived Dinosaural to bring you the ultimate gain stacking pedal!
It started as a passion project over a decade ago, born out of necessity where pub gigs force you to bring just the essentials. During lockdown, Coggins took that time to bring his prototype to the final stages and up to his own exacting standards.
The Cogmeister is a three-in-one effect with a transistor Overdrive at the heart surrounded by a Treble Booster at the front and Clean/Mid Booster at the back. The Push, Drive and Solo have all been designed to be used with great effect on their own or in a variety of combinations that help match this pedal to your favorite rig or mystery backline! The whole pedal uses Class-A operated discrete silicon transistors, so no traditional IC op-amps here. The result is a huge dynamic range not impacted by the usual diode clipping, you can find just about any tone from high headroom flat boost to classic treble booster or muffy fuzz with all circuits engaged. Plus, the low-end shaping at the start of the circuit means it can adapt to any pickup you plug into it. The Dinosaural Cogmeister is handbuilt in the UK with high quality components, operates on battery or 9V DC power with very low current draw and each circuit is wired for true bypass. Dan Coggins + Andy = Awesomeness!
🤘👍🏿When I bought mine I also got the accompanying barefoot buttons. Both the sounds and those buttons make me stupidly happy.
Nice work Andy, sounds badass through and through in your hands.
Cheers my friend! 👊💥👊
Thanks for the revist Andy! - always thought it deserved it 💜 it's one of my favourite pedals and hasn't left my board since I bought it in 2022 -- I use it on my current studio board with myT-Rex Replicator Jnr, a Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Waters. a JHS Artifical Blonde, EHX Pitch Fork+, oringinal Keeley 2 knob Compressor and a British Pedal Company Zonk Machine all into the Audio Interface or most commonly miked from my Hamstead 20 +RT 🤍 you made it sound great
Isn’t this a new version though?
Or is it the same circuit, from a couple years ago?
I may be thinking of a J Mascis, Dinosaur Jr., triple pedal, they came out recently.
@@CorbCorbin yeah, you are thinking of something else.
The Cogmeister has been the same since it began being made during the COVID lockdown. It supersedes both the earlier and now-discontinued ‘Tube Bender’ and ‘OPA-101’ pedals from 2002 with the addition of a new ‘Drive’ circuit.
Rockin intro very cool tones
It's a beauty!
Just the Treble and Mid boost sections, sound great, as their own gain pedals.
I’ve been using a mid boost, after a Fuzz Face, amand a Tube Screamer circuit, in front of the Pharaoh, big muff pedal, with the three clipping choices.
It has nice cleanup with the guitar volume, to as Muffy as one wants to get.
Man, that thing sounds HUUUGGGEEE! The Push circuit with the Gain and Low maxed sounded freaking frightening like the way rock and roll probably did to old people in the South in the 60's. Like... dangerous and seductive at the same time. Hot dog, this one tickled my ears somethin' fierce. 🌭
Thank you, glad you dug this one! I love that old-school overdrive too, much more raw and alive compared to traditional diode clipping + opamps.
I was very impressed, with that Treble Booster, as well.
Pedal sound great with the DRR.
I agree, those transistors warmed up that scooped ‘65 circuit 👍🏻
Sweet
You have earned it … but you get to play with the coolest stuff. Then, you do it very well.🤔🤔🤔. Oh, I see …😅.
Great sounding pedal with plenty of space for exploration. It certainly has the ‘70s covered; at least, for me.👍.
🎸👨🏼⚕️. 🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸. 🫶✌️♾️
Damnit Andy...it's been a while since you got me to buy a pedal. A good while...
..."order placed"
Very Early Mesa Boogie
Great, so now I can ditch the fizzy fuzzy pedals. But pass this on to Mr. Coggins (I won't leave this alone ever): The MEATBALL! The most mysteriously unrevisited pedal needs at least a reissue, if not an updated version. The most dynamically responsive filter pedal I've ever come across, never equalled and certainly never surpassed. I've bugged Thorpy about it way too much.
Encore mieux que le stiffmeister.
