I haven't tried them. I'm good friends with the two end snares from this past year, we all marched at Mandarins together in 06 and 07. They said that the harnesses are really comfortable and super lightweight, but they had to add extra padding halfway through the season.
They give a little more space between your body and the drum so it's more of a comfortable angle. When you put one on it also kinda looks and feels like you're strapping yourself into a roller coaster, I'm in the Winter drumline and we got to use them for auditions so that's the only time i've seen them
They are new prototype harnesses made by Pearl. Pearl ended its contract with Randall May, so they asked SCV to experiment with their design this summer.
You have to admit it was very dirty though. I didn't mind the dirt though because the sound quality, music, and tuning made up for it. This next season, they are trying to keep attendance to the max and as a result there might only be 2 returning members. We'll see if that benefits or hurts them next season.
I agree that the basses tuning leaves their notes with much more space to them, but they're so spot on that I honestly feel it fills them out quite nicely. It would be nicer if the intervals were spaced out a bit more though.
@RCRhythm As explained before, I gave my camera to my student who was marching corps that summer. He wasn't well-trained on his cinematographic skills, I admit; if you like, I will take the video down for you.
NO ONE SKIPS A VANGUARD REHEARSL!!, this year some rehearsals are coinciding with WGI regionals so people from Pulse who WERE doing SCV are most likely going to go somewhere else...like a bunch are going to try for Bluecoats. Mainly the snare line tho.
Bass 5 got me at 1:34. Reminds me in this bamf who had a hardcore relationship to his drum in 2008. (But i cant find the video anymore. Anyone knows which one i mean?)
Please film some of your own footage next time then please. You can't just appreciate the fact that he got the footage for you to watch? I'm pretty sure the person recording is not getting paid for this, yet he took his time to film it and post it for everyone.
Sorry, where i come from , thats called square. too many check patterns and cheat set ups, along with 16th notes that are not needed. i found a secret! The metronome maybe slowing down, compared to A/C powered ones...so everyone in the world could be slowing down.
For the algorithm. ✊

just one thing i love about SCV is the snare tilt. it fierce!

cymbal hits make it so badass
Actually Brian Mason wrote the percussion book. Murray writes for the cadet corps
i believe he was referring to vanguard cadets, not the holy name cadets.
Clearly, Spielberg doesn't have to worry about this camera man coming for his job anytime soon.
Loved the snare tuning, wonder how they did it, anyone have an idea?
I believe they used the technique for tuning pipe drum snares. Look that up and I think you'll get an idea of how they tuned them :)

Who wrote this anyways? This is sick and unique book.

@thasnargoblin the new pearls, im excited to use em this year
i lov e SCV, but give me a break.........it should be illegal to be this good
@RCRhythm Very well! I shall leave it up then.

man... when i saw this in ATL, my brain splattered.... NO WAY humans can be that clean with 4s and such
gotta love that SCV swagger.
Best SCV Drum feature since 04? I think so
:)
it's possible with any stick and technique. Props to SCV for the fours though( no matter how overhyped they are, it's still cool to see)

I wish my bassline sounded like this.
I liked the one from 3HREE, too, but damn, the first time I heard this bass solo, I involuntary swore at my computer screen.
@DrumlineArchives but the audio is great
what do you mean by attendance up to the max?
you mean ppl skipped practice?
stick control is a lot slower. This is at168
what kind of carriers do they use?
