I take Fin for 2 years and I work out 6 days a week…Muscle mass and performance is the same as before. The only thing it can do is lower libido and sperm count. But…It is never permanent. So if you stop taking it the effects of Fin wear off after 2 weeks. Just research Fin half life.
I'm confused. Matt did a trial off finasteride for over 100 days. He said he felt better off the drug. He even used topical finasteride to lower side effects. It seems like he is now downplaying the side effects.
Well, first of all, there are many scary UA-cam videos about potential side effects. Let me tell you, if you watch one or two of them, you're going to experience those side effects. No exceptions, unless you're a mentally really strong guy. That's the nocebo effect and is very strong. Believe me, during the 10+ years I take fine, I've been falling in that pit too. I consider myself lucky to have proceeded and overcame the nocebo effect. That's why I still have hair...and have great sex with the wife 😅
that's not true. i have two very close friends who are mentally very strong (alpha's) and never had mental problems in their life. one got strong mental side effects (he's a doctor) and the other got very strong mental side effect! in the first case after stopping finasterid, the sides were gone. in seconds case, it stayed for almost 6 months and i can tell. i don't know no one who had more hot girls them him. when the sides began, he was anxious, depressed, like a little worm! so all this "it's just in your head" blablabla IT'S NOT TRUE!
Dr. Bhatti states at 6:20 that "there are many options available if you don't have hair, other than hair transplant or medication." I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. There isn't. Literally, medication and hair transplants are the two options available for real hair restoration. There are no others. All others do not involve real hair.
I think he was referring to "having hair" is not the end all and be all in life....be alive .....be happy.....you don't have to live the psychological life of a diminished person just because of todays Beauty standards......but this is easier to do when your older than 50.....we are all vain when we are young !
I have taken Finasteride for only 13 days. And faced all the side effects. After having the side effects i stopped Finasteride. Now my question is that is it possible to recover from the side effects completely. Note: i would never ever take Finasteride again .
I found the best thing to minimize side effects is use it consistently. Everyday, same dose. I got sides when i started playing with scheduling like MWF or twice a week thinking i would maintain results but lower any potential side effect
Great vid matt thx u for all this information , i have a question so i started finasteride from 10 days and before i start i did some analysis and i found that e2 is a little bit high 51,7 pg/ml and the normal range was (10 to 50) is there a big risk to get side effects in my case ? Testosterone was in the normal rang and i am 176cm 69kg.
I have couple questions I wanna start with finasterid (I am Norwood 1,5 I guess, I experience hairloss since 2020, only thinning on my right side, it is now a little bit harder to cover with my hair) 1. Is only Fin a possible way for the beginning ? ( I am not really pure If I can stick to minoxidil for the rest of my life twice a day) 2. Could Finasterid help me regrow this tiny little area on my right side ? Or is a regrow really rare with fin ? 3. How long ist Fina potent ? Like what is the least minimum time and the maximum ?
been on fin 1m every day for almost 6 months. only side is watery semen now and again, everything else is fine! do you think i should change doses or carry on as i am?
What's the result? I am 20 yrs old and my hairs are started receding. I've strong male pattern baldness history from my mother side. I'm on norwood 1 can you please tell me how much time finasteride takes to stop hairloss😢😢i am depressed 💔🥺😔
@@Sam_00178 the results for me have brought more hair back to my crown and made my hair overall a lot thicker. i'm a norwood 4 and just had a transplant. But if i knew what i did now then i would have started on fin back in my 20s! I can't tell you how long it takes for fin to work but it will stop hair loss! maybe speak to your dermatologist
I've a question about the Pre-Finasteride tests. Since my dermatologist told me that they're unnecessary I haven't done any and, as far as I know, she's right you don't need any pre-test. So is Dr.Bhatti run the tests just to reassure it's patients or he uses these tests parameters as a discriminant on weather to take the drug or not ? thank you
Boys I have a bottle of finastride sitting on my dresser. I’m just sitting here debating to take it or not. Please help someone please reply . Thank you
I had the same dilemma for like a whole year, in the end , I started with a low dose. I take 0.25 now, and its fine, if I go above that I get sides, but they go away within a few days. Don't worry, just take it slow and start with a low dose, your body will recover if you get sides.
I've been taking 1mg daily finasteride for the past 6 months. 50 year old male. Overall, I'm very healthy and sporty. The good news, I have approximately 30 % hair count improvement on my crown area since I started 6 months ago. Downside, yes, side effects of extremely reduced libido and soft erections since I started... lower libido never improved ever, since I started this medication. As I don't have a wife or partner, I'll sacrifice the side effects for now. I want to continue my momentum and gains, for another 6 months to continue gains... however, I believe the strategy should be reducing to half .5 a milligrams daily.
I started oral Finasteride in July and stopped about a week ago because of libido issues and the inability to maintain an erection despite meds and supplements to help me do so. I think the claims about what percentage of men have negative side effects are laughably low. Time after time I have seen guys on hair loss forums say they were about to start Finasteride and time after time I have seen them post later that they are abandoning the drug because of negative side effects.
@@rlh125 Well obviously you are going to see a disproportionate amount of people complaining about side effects online because ones who do not suffer any simply move on with their lives. The vast majority of people don't such as my self and my mate.
@@shadysorkin9214 That excuse won't fly. These aren't people who have come to a forum to complain about bad results. They are regular forum members who announce they are going to start Finasteride and report their results.
Is one of the side effects increased urine urgency.... like I felt like needing to go to the toilet immediately after just going even though there's nothing left.
10:29 "This is not a medicine for the meek". Totally agree. People are so scared of Finasteride from reading the Internet and Reddit, that they won't even fight for their hair. Side effects can be beaten and destroyed so that you can get the best side effect of Fin and that's hair growth and stabilization. Once I got my doctor consultation to get prescribed, my doctor laughed at me because 1mg does was so low, and they use 5mg normally for patients with BPH. In fact, I'm more scared about Minoxidil because that actually gave me health scares related to my heart. Great interview -- I wish you would have asked him about Finasteride efficacy over age ranges, as I believe it's more effective at early ages.
For someone who (for a year) has been on oral Dutasteride at .5mg/day and oral Minoxidil at 5mg/day, and still losing ground fast with normal bloodwork, would you suggest 1.) Switching to topical Fin? 2.) Switching to topical Dut? 3.) switching to oral Propecia (brand name) at 1mg/day (brand Avodart is too expensive)?
I took fin for 3 weeks (1mg) and experienced extreme sexual side effects inc. watery semen, reduced amount of semen and reduced ejaculation distance. I immediately ceased using it and the symptoms eased off to a small extent but have remained a constant for 16 months. In a nutshell : taking this drug is comparable with Russian Roulette. in all likelyhood you'll be OK but you might not be, and i count myself lucky to not have experienced the range of neurological conditions as well. AVOID
@@vipul_chauhan9384 it came back.i went to ultrasound and everything was fine.its 98% gone because i started taking fin at dinnertime instead of morning with coffee.i take it eod now.
Hmmmm, it would be difficult to rule out PFS completely. I wasn't even aware that post finasteride syndrome was a thing, but I remember being incredibly fatigued for many months after I stopped finasteride.
Personally I was Immediate;y Crushed by this drug! (psychologically and fatigue wise)......can't explain it....and it wasn't a Nocebo.....I was not aware of any side-effects beforehand
been on fin for about 1 and a half month, i started taking 1 mg per day and then reduced it to 1 mg 3 times a week, experiencing low libido and not having erections early in the morning when i wake up and weaker erections overall but nothing else. should i continue taking it or not?
also does it have any effects on muscle mass and working out? I've been working out hardly for about 2 months and my progress has been slower recently although i am putting more pressure on myself, can it be because of fin?
This doctor is competent, but he does not believe in topical finasteride. He says it wont penetrate the scalp skin enough to be effective.... can u ask him about that matt?
Topical Finasteride 100% does penetrate the scalp and absorb systemically. It has a molecular weight of approximately 372 g/mol (Dalton). The 500 Dalton rule, which has been confirmed with studies spanning decades now, states that any chemical with a molecular weight above 500 Dalton can not penetrate human skin and transmit itself systemically. Finasteride is well below that level, and I can attest from personal experience, that using Topical Finasteride exhibited the same side-effect profile for me as Oral Finasteride. What's interesting however, is that Dutasteride has a molecular weight of 528.5 Dalton, which is only slightly lower than Ketoconazole, which has a molecular weight of 531 Dalton. It's widely agreed that topical application of Ketoconazole, usually in it's 2% form in Nizarol shampoo, doesn't absorb systemically into the body (in keeping with the 500 Dalton rule). This does suggest that Topical Dutasteride and Dutasteride Mesotherapy shouldn't give systemic side effects, due to Dutasteride's high molecular weight. I am personally going to try Dutasteride Mesotherapy (microinjecting Dutasteride into the scalp) with a dermatologist next month. All the research I have conducted suggests that it does not cause any systemic side effects. I haven't done enough research about Topical Dutasteride, but it wouldn't surprise me if it also didn't cause systemic side effects. I would highly recommend people investigate Topical Dutasteride and Dutasteride Mesotherapy before pursuing Oral Finasteride, Topical Finasteride, or Oral Dutasteride. Hope this helps
He doesn’t know Jack! I have used finasteride for years at 1mg dose. It reduced my semen output but that was it. My doctor increased my dose to 5mg because I had a slightly enlarged prostate and I was impotent in 6 months. I never recovered and still have PFS 15 years later!
Thanks for sharing. 5mg Fin is very bad for sperm count and sperm motility. It is almost as bad as 0.5mg Dutasteride. Doctor should have advised a sperm test before increasing the dose onto 5mg Fin. Then you could tell for sure whether Fin caused this. I have a friend who is close to being impotent in his early 30s. Never used Fin, or Dut in his life, no drugs, or alcohol.
😢 I used dutasteride for 1.5 years at the end I ended up ejaculating 1 drop of semen. My ejaculation force got very very weak aswell. I did recover after quitting. Then I was dumb and used fin instead for some months. I quit and didnt recover after 4 months. Then I got on fin again for 50 days and recently quit cause I cant handle the weak ejaculation force it gives me poor orgasm feeling. I hope to recover some day. When I recovered after DUT I used maca, tongkat ali and ZMA supps and didnt fap for 3 weeks to let my body heal.
Finasteride is a deadly drug. You must understand that every drug out there has some type of negative side effect. My urologist at the time was a fool. He incorrectly advised me that finasteride was one of the safest drugs out there with 0 side effects. By the time I found out from another urologist it caused impotence in many men it was too late. My advice is if you value your sex life more than a few hair follicles stay away from finasteride or anything similar. It’s already ruined my sex life and my marriage as well! The inventors of this drug need to be sued!
That’s impossible. Finasteride half life is so low and dissipates from your body after 2-4 weeks. Been taking it for years, and any time I go on break my libido sky rockets. 5mg is a lot though, but still, the half life is so low. Have you taken a testosterone and estrogen test? Make sure you do.
Not Nocebo imo. Only possible if he had negative expectations like sore back and knees already before starting the treatment. Then we could consider psychosomatic factors causing the sides...I also had unexplained lower back pain on Fin. I don't have it on topical
@@user-rm8by9fm....you don't know everything....for example why do you need DHT before going thru puperty ? answer: the most DHT your will ever have is at the time of birth, you will also start going bald that day , for a few days , why ?, because during childbirth the DHT causes the expression of chemicals that PREVENT Reactive Oxygen Species from cooking your brain from hypoxia.....that's why males don't get more brain damage than girls, when we are born, even though we don't have the Nuero-protector hormone Estrogen that females have ....and so we are not all AUTISTIC !(mostly.....but upto 4x the rates of autism of girls)
I've been following you for a long time, I've watched most of your videos several times! Thanks for your analysis and advice! I have a question that is bothering me.. "Finasteride has long been linked to high-grade prostate cancer", what is your opinion ? This is very scary.. and I think this is very disturbing.. That's the only thing stopping me from trying medication. And believe me... I am a person who has been doing everything possible for ten years, including a hair transplant (once), but for a satisfactory result I need more grafts.. I know...if I start this drug I will keep the existing hair for a few years (and get some hair back that is not depleted by DHT) High-grade prostate cancer ? This is biggest question. Finasteride not only associated with sexual side effects but also associated with brain related diseases like alzheimer's disease , memory loss & other cognitive difficulties
I believe that if you don't know about the potential side effects then you will pay less attention to them even if they are present. I had no idea how messed up my drive and libido were until I stopped taking the 1.25mg a day. I tried taking it again on two different occasions and it did the same thing. It's possible a lower dose would have been fine but I really don't want to lower my libido or sense of well-being to any extent for what might be a minimal gain in hair.
What sides did you have? My libido is the same as before but my penis is just smaller, it's always contracted. Only been using fin about 6 or 7 weeks. Went down to .5mg after a couple weeks, now .5 EOD. I'm not a hypochondriac, and not neurotic about drugs.. I tolerate most everything well. I'm just hoping my body will adjust and return to normal penile size with the DHT that's available during fin intervention.
@@guyincognito320, yes my Junk is smaller as well...i read somewhere that DHT stops the formation of Scar tissue in the Penis, but why does it cause me to look so small when not at full erection....even when erect I'm still about 20% smaller ?
Being unhealthy in general is horrible for your body, but the side effects especially permanent ones in PFS are due to genetics. NO amount of healthy framework beforehand or during is going to change that.
Hey Matt - question for ya: I was on Fin for 8 months at 0.25mg everyday for 8 months - no sides Bumped it up to 0.50mg everyday for 4 months - no sides. I then increased it to 1.25mg everyday for 6 months and noticed that my testosterone increased significantly. A few weeks ago I developed some puffyness and tenderness in my left pec/nipple. Ive been off Finasteride for 5 weeks now with some reduction in the tenderness and puffyness. I had my blood levels checked and estradiol, prolactin, and thyroid all in healthy ranges but my Test still being slightly higher. Obviously you are not a doctor, but do you recommend continuing to remain off Finasteride? And as for Gyno do you know more ways to reduce it? I'd like to hop back on fin but at a much lower dosage in the future just want to get the gyno issue sorted. Fortunately for me I am quite muscular so you cant really notice the gyno if my shirt is off
No need to increase to 1.25mg Fin. I would have stayed on 0.5mg every day. I think this might have been contributed to gyno, but maybe you have done other changes to your lifestyle in those 6 months that lead to gyno. DIM supplement is aromatase inhibitor which could help, or drug Tamoxifen. As far as fin intake, I would get back to 0.5mg.
Badically if you have high t youll suffer less than someone low t but either way 100% finastride will make you a less sexually potent male because finastride will 100% make your hormonal profile worse. Dht is not a junk hormone its important
Guys don't worry side effects go away as soon as u leave the drug I took duetstraide 0.5mg for 7 day I got side effects and within 4 days all the side effects are gone
Great vid Matt. I have a question. I started using Ketoconazole shampoo and I started to develop ED. I stopped it and started it again and got ED again. Do you think I should keep using it for 4-6 weeks regardless of the ED to see if my body adjusts to it just like I would do if starting finasteride as mentioned in this video? I don’t know what to do. Thanks Matt
I have never heard of ED after ketoconazole shampoo. I would keep using it 2x per week until my body gets used to it. 6 weeks would be a good time to re evaluate. If you still have ED, I would switch to 1% ketoconazoöe shampoo.
Because you will keep losing the hair. Unless you have an abnormaly thick and dense donor area enough to cover your entire head then that doesn't do the job. Also your donor would look like shit afterwards.
@@edihayat LOL i typed that months ago, but ye you need decent amount of hair on sides and back, i would rather have all my hair on top than sides and back lol , so i dont mind how much hair they take from sides and back of head, dont forget beard under chin
It's not very intuitive that a hair drug would give you a soft erection. I think the people who were given finasteride without the warning likely underreported their side effects. People assume that the non-informed drug takers were more accurate, but I find that unlikely. Please note, I took 1 mg per day and had wicked side effects (erection only lasted about 5 seconds). I now take it 1 mg MWF. And this seems to work. I'm also taking other supplements like Boron and DIM. I don't know if they help, but the combination of reduced finasteride and possibly supplements has made sex life tolerable.
@@dunes1011 Boron Citrate is supposed to increase your free testosterone. I take a combo of 300mg I3C + 100mg DIM. I have no side effect from DIM, but i don't think it's working or stopping the side effects from Finasteride. The main thing that works to reduce side effect from Finasteride is just taking it 3x a week. One mg eavery M/W/F. That lower does helps with side effects.
lol it’s not very intuitive to assume this was originally conceived as a hair loss drug finasteride was a medication for prostate issues not hair growth originally

I've a question about the Pre-Finasteride tests. Since my dermatologist told me that they're unnecessary I haven't done any and, as far as I know, she's right you don't need any pre-test.

Thanks for sharing. 5mg Fin is very bad for sperm count and sperm motility. It is almost as bad as 0.5mg Dutasteride. Doctor should have advised a sperm test before increasing the dose onto 5mg Fin. Then you could tell for sure whether Fin caused this. I have a friend who is close to being impotent in his early 30s. Never used Fin, or Dut in his life, no drugs, or alcohol.

Ive been off Finasteride for 5 weeks now with some reduction in the tenderness and puffyness. I had my blood levels checked and estradiol, prolactin, and thyroid all in healthy ranges but my Test still being slightly higher.

No need to increase to 1.25mg Fin. I would have stayed on 0.5mg every day.
