I have linked in the description the scan tool I used in this video for anyone interested. Using a scan tool for a quick resistance check can be a very effective way to diagnose a fault like this, it eliminates labour time removing parts to test components at different points. **Bear in mind these are general info specs from experience on different vehicles, having exact spec data when testing is always the best option if in any doubt** Thanks for watching, I hope you find the video helpful 👍👍
The usual font of knowledge and wisdom, Ger, any apprentice would be extremely lucky to have you as their mentor. Mind you, looks like you still have a little to learn from the young lad 'Push harder on it to make it open'. 👌😉
That young lad is forever challenging me and making me push harder 🤣😂 I am back to appreciate some days already 😊 Thanks for the kinds words, I truly appreciate it 🙏🙏
Hey Gerard, Good diagnosis as usual. Hadn't thought of turning the steering wheel for the clock spring. Seems obvious now. Learn something new everyday. 😉
Cheers Anthony, Awh yes the old it's so stuck you pull with all your might and regret ever trying (without a securing nut on) 🤣🤣 lessons that are forever ingrained 👌
Thank you... Very informative. My airbag light came on but none of my buttons on the wheel stopped working. I checked my fuses and they were fine. I have an appointment with the dealer next week to fully diagnose the issue. I'm believing that the clock sprung will need to be replaced.
Writing from Canada. This is a great video Gerard. My 2014 KIA Forte airbag light (intermittently appearing) was diagnosed by KIA garage with code B148100, using a scanner DAB resistance reading 6 ohms and jumps to 11 ohms when turning steering wheel. Part ordered and should get in next week. Meanwhile, I have to sell my shirt to afford making this repair….😢. I never knew of the clock spring until I saw it marked on the invoice and now your video provided an excellent view of what it is all about. Thanks for the great effort. Your son is surely someone to listen to…👍
tempomat and cruise control do not work on the steering wheel, the right button does not give out the code but does not work and the airbag light appeared and there is a code B134600 is this the same problem or different? Thanks
AWESOME the way you approach to fix this car by using the scan tool for resistant check is really helped and safe time and ur logic approach is great thanks for taking the time to show all this really appreciated question for you is 2 to 3 ohm universal on all car maker or it is different thanks for sharing brother.cheeeers from CANADA
Thanks very much for the kind words. As for the 2-3 ohms that is the range in this vehicle but is certainly not set in stone on all manufacturers. It is a common range for the system to operate at. If you have manufacturers specs definitely use them or comparison tests to passenger airbag can give you an indication too. There are resistors for testing airbag circuits that can be bought and they are commonly under 3 ohms, Lazer sells one that is 2.5 ohms and I have a couple in my set as well all under 3 ohms. Hope this helps 👌
Won't be long before Gérard Jnr is at the helm and senior is in the rocking chair, reminiscing about the ould days of cutting the turf, bringing home the hay, the craic on threshing day and early mass on Xmas morning not to mention ploughing the upper field with two shire horses. Don't dare mention Dev Alera. I can see a lot of explaining down the line. Probably think this man is from another planet. Come to think of it, the spring is gone in the grandfather's clock.
I commented on another video of yours I came across on Google I have a 2016 kia soul and when I turn my steering wheel left and right I can hear like something banging not to loud but enough to hear and feel would that issue be my sway bar bushing gone bad. And when driving over bumps because the back roads I live around are very bad.but i hear and feel banging like under my feet could that be the sway bar bushing bad as well. I checked the sway bar links they looked.
Great video that's some workshop you have there ps I have a pain in my you know what here in Ireland with stupid check points where are you going is your journey nessicary
The 2017 kia cadenza with the paddle shifter on the steering wheel. I only see one hole and that's at the bottom of the steering. Not seeing the other 2 to release the airbag
I'm trying to replace the clockspring on my 2012 Forte Koup, but the T30 screws were stupid tight and the screw on the left immediately stripped the head...
Great video Mr. Burke!! We recently changed out the clock spring ourselves on our 2012 Kia Sorento but unfortunately the airbag light is still on... Any suggs would be greatly appreciated sir, thank you in advance!
Hii I own a Hyundai i30 2009 model in the UK. My main concern is that it burns lots of oil. I don't know what to do. It has 63000 miles on it. It is burning around 1 litre of oil per 300 miles. So can you please help me on what to do. I went to many garages but no one wants to look at it every one says it has engine problem. Please help me I don't wanna sell my car. Kind regards.

🤣🤣🤣 Yes Tom 👌👌
Any idea what it could be if the dash light is on, but no code is showing up on the OBD? Tried 2 different scanner tools. Bad light?
the clock spring that you use is it an aftermarket? like to know if aftermarket parts are just as good..
Great job and advice Gerard, Thankyou:):) The bit of extra help is great:)

my air bag light came on after i install the push start button on the kia forte 2019. do you know why?
Very informative. Will the airbag still deploy in the event of an accident if the light is on? Cheers from down under.
What would be the size of the torx key?

What is the cost at a Kia garage?
One thing to add....NEVER check the resistance on an airbag! Not unless you like loud noises, and changing underwear!
Why?

What if mine says Dab1st resistance error, so it doesn’t say any data? Everything else says between 2.2-2.7 ohms
I don't have the money for the scan tool. Pretty much ends the discussion there.
