I'm amazed how quickly the ex manager told on herself and how fast her point made much more sense. It's not that she wanted to work 100 a week (which means shed be working 14 hours for 7 days straight), but that she wanted to make other people work as much.

Of course, they want a system with zero protections. You don't get overtime pay, you have fixed contracts and pay, and can be forced to work any hours within that or you lose your job.

I live in the UK and there are lots of suppliers on the continent who no longer ship to the UK. Nothing to do with Covid, it's the tax , import charges, delays and paperwork caused by Brexit. Covid is covering up a lot of Brexit fallout, but it won't do that for ever.

    • @cbensonis

@Michael Rosenzweig Who said it did? I didn't. The only person who suggested it is you. If my normal suppliers are specifically stating they are sending orders to every other country in the EU, but are no longer trading with the UK, because of Brexit, and that it is absolutely in line what what you knew and feared would happen a a result of Brexit, then it's most likely Brexit isn't it. if Brexit had taken a holiday, I wouldn't have said Covid was obscuring Brexit issues would I.

What O’Brien does is akin to a professional boxer setting up a ring in a town centre and then trying to ply his professional skull against any amateur that can pull on gloves.
When he debates anyone who knows anything about these subjects - see Jacob Rees Mogg - he throws his teddy out of the cot and has a tantrum.
I don’t know why you would celebrate such a ridiculous premise.

Except the people who bought it, wanted to buy it. And if they won't admit they were wrong, they'll drag us all down into the abyss with them again. And again, and again.
This is who Britain is; the remnants of an Empire built on white supremacy. That's the only way Brexit makes any sense, unless you think a nation spontaneously decided to strangle itself. And until that fundamental, ludicrous, and dangerous bigotry is dealt with, it will continue to fester and attack the body politic.
Yes, the people who sold it were well-funded liars with ulterior motives. Yes, the people who bought it were lied to and manipulated. But they wanted to be. They had every opportunity, including that provided by a basic grasp of reality, to realize that it's impossible to simply wish your garden full of unicorns, but they got on-board with those obvious lies anyway, because it gave them a chance to feel superior without having to do any work. There's nothing admirable in that; quite the opposite. And while the people at the top should get far more of the blame, there's more than enough to go around, and will be, apparently, for the foreseeable future. This isn't going to get better.
That's where James is both tremendously wrong, and, honestly, being quite self-serving and naive in exactly the way MLK described "white moderates" as being; this is exactly who these people are, and always were. Nobody waved a wand and made all these people bigots overnight. British (and Western) culture has rot at its core, and unless it is excised, it will be fatal. For everybody.
