On the topic of Vexing Bauble: I am very mixed on this ban because as a Lands player, it was a useful trinket we could get with Urza's Saga that could keep the unfair decks in check (the lotus petal and LED decks) while also helping us to protect Marit Lage from Solitude and our spells from Force of Will and free Dazes. When the card was spoiled, this is exactly where my deckbuilding mind went. Seeing Vexing Bauble used offensively by combo decks as a *pre-emptive* Veil of Summer (that also hinders the mirror), and also acting as a Defence Grid of sorts makes me glad to see it get banned. Lands players out there catching strays, as the kids might put it. For this reason I was also glad to see it restricted in Vintage because Chalice of the Void is restricted and Chalice serves a much more narrow purpose.
My biggest problem with the ban the blue shell shouldn’t be the ceiling of interaction that should be allowed in the format especially when there should have been a serious discussion about daze for a while now. So it’s either play blue shell to fight blue shell or just hope they don’t have it.
I think that is the main point made in the video... Its not good in that shell (how is daze or FOW hitting your marit lage? swords or any bounce still gets it, if your worried about the turn 1 exploration or mox diamond then sure but playing out the lands a turn slower is not worth going down a card, just take the 2 for 1 and move on). It is only good in the combo decks to protect thier win, it, like grid, it is only good if you are being proactive (shutting down omniciance combo or mind desire is pretty narrow). My question to solidify this is why aren't you considering playing defence grid in lands then if your so conserned with free spells or any interaction? If you aren't then you probably don't want bauble a niche version of that effect for only free spells and can cycle for a card. Fair decks that want the effect like Lands or D&T will play thron or another tax effect that makes everything slower rather than just hit the free spells, the unfiar decks only want to stop the free answers since they have the fair answers are already beat (either with speed or a bounce of the hate they can plan out).
so here's the thing... it sounds like bauble was a catch all in deckbuilding that you could use to basically stop the format so that you could more or less do a broken thing earlier then you should have reasonably should be doing that thing... so the entire reason the card is banned is why you didnt want the card banned? idk sounds like you should probably think of a new way to stop the entire format in 1 singular card again 🤣🤣

I'm excited to see what we can do, but I think what will hit the bans again is GSZ because of Titan. We get cool new decks, but the deck dump from today already had Amulet Titan on top. I think they could have done a better job easing the format into it. People were used to the format not changing much, and going from radio silence to a huge hit of top strats was a REALLY big change. I’m pretty surprised they weren’t ready for Commander players to be super normal and fine about that hit, between the sudden shift in philosophy and the very normal and fine audience that format has accumulated over the years (Normal and fine is sarcasm Commander players are the AI bros of Magic)
I would because I think the play pattern of nadu is miserable, but is there any data that supports it being too good in comparison to other combo decks? I think being able to play a creature game from time to time is a big plus compared to something like show and tell but idk if its enough
Nadu is definitely next, just for frustrating play patterns, and games going to time. I heard at every eternal weekend, if a round was going to time, odds are Nadu was involved.
@@xdelbarrio Certain Nadu shells are of mediocre power level, but Nadu Elves performed very well, and of course Breakfast with Nadu won in Europe (pilot skill).
@@xdelbarrio the data will come in the next few months I think. Show and tell is easier to answer cause the play pattern is clear. Disappointed that we got no unbans. Surely Earthcraft and Mana Drain are fair game, and an appropriate power level to unban. Mind Twist is also laughably bad.
Earthcraft seems fine. I slightly worry about Mana Drain in a format with The One Ring as that play pattern (turn 2 drain whatever they play, turn 3 ring), if it's good, is miserable.
28:50 Dnt is actually decent vs Nadu, whether with black splash for Tseize and Phantom Blade or Red for Bombardier, Magus and Pyroblasts. The real problems are Eldrazi and Doomsday.
It's crazy how each Modern Horizons set is just that much worse than the last one. Thank you for your words on Vexing Bauble there's a surprising number of people who need to hear what you had said there, lol.
There is a Hogaak mirror where Player 1 had lethal on T2. Player 2 chump blocked their entire board T3 to stay alive at 1. That player infinitely milled Player 1 from zero board on T3 with a comical level of ease. Hogaak Summer was worse.
@traycarrot depends what format you're talking about, this is a legacy channel. Hogaak is legal in legacy and is not super impressive only Wrenn dumpstered the format super hard from MH1 whereas MH3 for example has brought: Nadu, everything in Eldrazi, Bauble (+Saga > Bauble), and Frog.
Faithless looting also goes in jund creativity, and as a modern hardened scales player who started around 1 year ago I am excited to try mox opal (even if I cant afford it myself I have good magic friends who play legacy)
I am so excited to see Lantern back with opal and urza's saga. I can't help but feel that the best players with this upgrade can go to town with an updated lantern for the new meta.
@@fernandobanda5734 Rakdos/Mardu reanimator sometimes played Exhume as extra Animate Dead redundancy, I imagine that would be the 4x that replaces Reanimate if banned.
@@fernandobanda5734 yes, and the drawback is real with cards like Troll of Khazad Dum in the format and for reanimator decks that have a fair gameplan that they sometimes want to execute first.
Do you think it would be viable to build a control deck designed to proactively use consign to memory to stick an early phlage or uro in a bant/jeskai to have a better matchup vs mycospawn, or is that too much of an investment for not enough payoff?
Troll isn’t really being played in the true reanimator decks now. So hitting reanimate makes true reanimator decks unviable. I think if the deck cannot reliably attempt a reanimate on turns 1-2 it will not be a force in the meta. Hell it isn’t even a force in the meta right now after bannings I don’t think. I personally think if you can’t beat a reanimated troll on turn 2 then you kind of deserve to lose that game. Enough decks are fast enough to beat it or have the tools to make it to where it isn’t an issue anymore.
Frog decks easily splash red to become grixis. Looting is too good not to. While I'm happy for the unbans in Modern, I do think we will see some of these cards banned, again, in the future.
Looting is card disadvantage, then just card selection. Sure, you can come back from that, but this also does sometimes put you in a bad spot. Also, if you mean for Legacy Frog decks, there's always Careful Study instead. Still blue
I think the argument about reanimate/entomb being banned in legacy is for many years now, reanimator has been awful up until recently. Its not like the daze/wasteland shell that has been a problem for many years, for along time we used to say "Mardu reanimator, very popular in leagues, please don't sleeve it up if you have any intention of winning Buffalo Chicken/Eternal Weekend/etc. You're going to be farmed by delver." Dimir Rescaminator feels more like incredibly broken individual pieces making it over the top. The reanimator "shell" hasn't been a problem up until recently.
The innovation of not playing bad red cards and instead playing good blue cards is what puts it over the top. That, and the increase in creature quality. Grislebrand doesn’t cut it in a world of Atraxa and Archon of Cruelty. Why risk getting blown out when you can just refill your hand with cantrips and counter spells? I think Entomb is likely to be the next ban, along with Nadu.
@@JohnFromAccountingThe reason for the red cards (which realistically were just Faithless Looting and sideboard cards) was to provide maximum consistency & speed for a turbo deck. Fair Reanimator needs to be able to pivot and play on board - that's why the archetype didn't exist for years while decks like Sneak and Show were demonstrating the potential of combo decks playing the fair Blue shell. You just sacrifice too much speed for that, every turn you spend casting cantrips (which don't also enable you like Faithless Looting) is a turn that Reanimator becomes a worse plan compared to every other deck because even fair decks in Legacy can end the game in like 5 turns - if you're winning on turns 3-4 because of setup time then you're not even really playing unfair. It's not that everyone between the Entomb unban and the printing of Grief was stupid, it's that the card pool doesn't support that without these broken "fast midrange" tools like Grief and Psychic Frog. Troll of Khazad-Dum is the only real reason the fair Reanimator deck has a chance of sticking around now that Grief and Frog are gone because it's a fair game-smoother card that's also an acceptable reanimation target. Not a great target, there's a reason the RB decks didn't play it and still don't (answering one big dork that just attacks for a few turns isn't _that_ hard, so you really can't afford to dump everything into a fast Troll), but it does another valuable thing in addition to being fine to reanimate and enables itself.
@@JohnFromAccounting I disagree, it's psychic frog obviously but also troll. The deck plays 16 lands, 4 of which are wastelands. I think troll might be a better ban than reanimate
Amulet Titan can become a toolbox with zennith being able to morph into responsive pile with zenith for Collector Ouphe, Destiny Spinner, Endurance and Acidic Slime, but overall in current modern Zennith seems very weak with the color restriction
I do think leaving names off of the ban announcement actually is a good call in some ways. Prevents a lot of toxicity and trolling that gets directed towards folks when bans go out. Transparency is good. Attaching a name is good. But its dangerous also
Nah. It’s important to the normal people to see that humans wrote a thing. Toxic weirdos are going to weird regardless, give the massive majority of normal people a positive nod.
I still think restricting The One Ring in every format should have happened at some point before banning it outright. There's the obvious lore and name reasons(it's the ONE ring...), but it answers one problem in playing duplicates and recasting them to reset the stacks and protection. idk if it would be the right design decision, but it just FEELS right.
I know it's been said elsewhere, maybe by Brian, but the design miss was not giving the burden counter to the player. That wouldn't have allowed the constant resetting with another Ring
@@fernandobanda5734 Repeatedly Time Walking any fair strategy while reducing any pressure (if you even felt pressured from drawing 6+ cards with the first Ring) was 2% of the card? X to doubt.

I love that I can now daze a turn two one ring with the bauble being banned.
Glad Reanimate and Entomb dodged the ban hammer.
Frog getting banned was enough damage to reanimator.
Only play vintage and would say I am content with Lurrus staying and that it should not be banned. I was successful on DD and enjoy the innovations needed to deal with Lurrus decks. I believe seeing kappa cannoneer to deal with lurrs is a good idea as well
Somewhat bold of them to credit the ban article since that mess that was the commander bans. Guess 1x1 are more mature about that
I think they could have done a better job easing the format into it. People were used to the format not changing much, and going from radio silence to a huge hit of top strats was a REALLY big change. I’m pretty surprised they weren’t ready for Commander players to be super normal and fine about that hit, between the sudden shift in philosophy and the very normal and fine audience that format has accumulated over the years
(Normal and fine is sarcasm Commander players are the AI bros of Magic)
Nadu is the next. Change my mind
Could see something even more broken in a coming set. Probably not, but with WotC anything is possible.
Nadu decks always have 2-3 aggression patterns, and it's very unlikely to answer all of them. The card is self-resilient to removal and green offers Easy ways to make It redundant (Zenith), to beat counterspells (halfling, sheperd) and artifact/enchantment lock pieces (boseiju, fov)
Urza, thopter, and sword are right next to each other in my binder!
Great video!
"And then they talk about a bunch of fake formats"
THANK YOU!
28:50 Dnt is actually decent vs Nadu, whether with black splash for Tseize and Phantom Blade or Red for Bombardier, Magus and Pyroblasts. The real problems are Eldrazi and Doomsday.
Im excited about opal and looting in an underworld breach shell.
Impressive. Very nice. Let's see Birthing Pod's unban.
13:11 I though you were about to just recite the amulet titan copypasta
can’t wait for something from the next set to immediately one up the ring’s degeneracy
If troll is what pushes reanimator over the line, why not push for that to be banned?
"A bunch of fake formats" xD
The only format that's fake that is covered In this video is pioneer.
Faithless looting also goes in jund creativity, and as a modern hardened scales player who started around 1 year ago I am excited to try mox opal (even if I cant afford it myself I have good magic friends who play legacy)
So hyped to try temur delver with scythecat cubs
27:41 BOSH SMASH!
I am so excited to see Lantern back with opal and urza's saga. I can't help but feel that the best players with this upgrade can go to town with an updated lantern for the new meta.
Dance of the Dead and Animate Dead can also get nixed in play and not just on the stack.
Is Exhume playable?
@@fernandobanda5734 Rakdos/Mardu reanimator sometimes played Exhume as extra Animate Dead redundancy, I imagine that would be the 4x that replaces Reanimate if banned.
@@fernandobanda5734 yes, and the drawback is real with cards like Troll of Khazad Dum in the format and for reanimator decks that have a fair gameplan that they sometimes want to execute first.
I’ve been waiting on this video
Happy with the bans, but agreed I wish they did more. Hopefully Nadu doesnt wreak havoc for the next 3 or so months before the next bnr
Do you think it would be viable to build a control deck designed to proactively use consign to memory to stick an early phlage or uro in a bant/jeskai to have a better matchup vs mycospawn, or is that too much of an investment for not enough payoff?
no more frog pack... no more croaking nobodys got em 😢
I'm sad i never even got to use Vexing Bauble. Too much Commander in my area to even get the opportunity to play even semi competitively.
I knew the bans were coming because i watch this channel every day
whir prison in modern. lets go!
Frog decks easily splash red to become grixis. Looting is too good not to. While I'm happy for the unbans in Modern, I do think we will see some of these cards banned, again, in the future.
Frog has a precedent for getting banned if that deck takes off.
Not worth dirtying up the mana base for essentially just a better thought scour, but that's just me
Looting is card disadvantage, then just card selection.
@@JohnFromAccountingthat’s not an innovation. U Reanimator was actually worse than R. The corner was turned with lotr and mh2-3 cards.
Unban Earthcraft? Spicy!
As spicy as mayonnaise
This guy should be om the bar comitee lol
PHOENIX!!!!!!!!!!!
#unbanSurvival
Ban Pack, sell em if you got em
Amulet Titan can become a toolbox with zennith being able to morph into responsive pile with zenith for Collector Ouphe, Destiny Spinner, Endurance and Acidic Slime, but overall in current modern Zennith seems very weak with the color restriction
Why the hell can u not play fire and ice with a jegantha companion
There’s 1U and 1R have 2 generic 1 mana symbols between them.
@BoshNRoll OHHHH same reason for chalice I get it

Replacing your ring is like 2% of what makes that card good. It really wouldn't have mattered.
@@fernandobanda5734 Repeatedly Time Walking any fair strategy while reducing any pressure (if you even felt pressured from drawing 6+ cards with the first Ring) was 2% of the card? X to doubt.
I was literally screaming in joy when i got back home from school to look at the b and r announcement to see looting was bought back
Fake formats... Lmao 🤣
Fake formats.... Shots fired
Eventually they will need a restricted list in legacy. I can think of so many unbans if they did.
#freenadu (in edh)
Boros shifting from a horrifically broken value piece to now somehow having a combo kill because the unbans were made of old bubble gum and rancid, decade old hype.
I’m legitimately about to quit modern and go play legacy D&T.
Ban uncommons to avoid hurting sales. Very brave choices, Hasbro.
Out of the 5 cards banned, two are uncommons, two are rares and one is a mythic?
Lol
Green sun being unbanned for diversity is hilarious because every green deck starts with 4..
Hardened scales will play 0? But 4 opals
Currently Modern has no really good green-centric decks. Zoo doesn't want it because it's too slow for their liking and that's Modern's sole green creature deck.
Vexing bauble does go in maverick, it is totally a fair card. I'd much rather play vexing bauble instead of wirewood symbiote or elvish visionary in my elf deck!
I am the second
