Thank you Nurse Alyssa. I have Venous Ulcer on my lower left leg. I live in Thailand. I have had minor surgery on it to clean it up at the local hospital. I was told by a retired UK doctor here in Thailand to use this dressing I have watched video. Very easy to follow and understand. I have subscribed. Thank you so much.
Thank You for your presentation of Bactigras. I live in Ontario Canada also. Two days ago I injured my thumb for 3 sutures and a hair line fracture. I probably will be changing the dressing before I go the plastic surgeon in 6 days. Sincerely Craig Clayton
Hi Nurse Alyssa, I am a diabetic. I'm using bactigras on my right leg ulcer indicated in your video. It keeps bleeding through the gauze and I have to repeat the change after 2-3 hours. Changed a few times. is it okay? Should I use this or inadine? The leg ulcer is a small wound in your video
I would honestly need a lot more info to accurately determine the correct plan of care. For bleeding wounds, I use an alginate until the bleeding stops for 2 days. Although it is ok to change the Bactigras frequently. You can book a wound consult with me so we can do a full assessment Thewoundconsultant.com
May be left in place for 4 days, although most dressing changes are q 2-3 days, it is a nonstick contact layer with an antimicrobial (chlorohexidine). you do need to use a cover dressing over top of this. Any cover dressing is appropriate just ensure it can handle the amount of exudate coming out of the wound.
Hi Nurse Alyssa i accidentally poured hot water on my upper thigh and i went to the nearby hospital the next day and they removed the blisters and the burnt skin and cleaned it.then they applied some betadin and ointment and dressed it with gauze first and plaster over it and we went everyday to replace the dressing but for the past 3 days it has been bleeding when they take the gauze off is it normal or is there anything else you would prefer
They should be using a non-stick contact layer on top of the ointment (adaptic or any other plain non-contact layer) if sticking is still a problem they may need to hydrate with hydrogel. (also when a dressing sticks, they should soak it with saline, waiting a few minutes as it will self-release for the most part, minimizing trauma to the newly formed tissue)
Great info video 👍& thanks for sharing. Can you help me on this? My 76 yrs mother (diabetic & hypertension) has a leg wound (5-6inch) which is not healing properly due to slough formation. She is on Lizolid antibiotic & using Cadomer cream dressing (in 3-4 days duration). She usually experiences pricking pain in areas with slough as areas spread. Is there any suggestion you can give so that wound can start healing fast? I can provide you further details, if you want. I'll be thankful to you.
could you please send me a picture close up and further away , as i will have a better idea along with a picture of what is being used on the wound please does she have leg swelling? you can add all that to the email below asknursealyssa@gmail.com
Hi, glad to see your video. I'm 34 with no history of diabetes or bp. I fell from bike a week ago n i have a 1.5/1.5 inchs external wound on the patella with a red color look and no bleeding or pus on it. I'm applying Ovibact M ointment thrice daily and consuming Carimox cv 625 MG as per the doctor's advice. At first they did a dressing and I removed that after 48 hours because i'm unable to walk so many steps or travel as it hurts n pains. For last 2 days, i'm keeping the wound open to dry faster as i'm resting at home. The ointment melt so quick, what do it do? I'm fear of dressing as the dressing will stick to the wound. Can we put pressure on the leg with knee movement? While it is in a progressing stage? Should I keep it open only or cover with dressing. I heard about non sticky bandage as well, so can I apply this ointment and over that can I apply bactigras? Please answer for all.
Hello, thank you for the question! I personally would not use ovibact as it had iodine in it and that will have a drying effect. Since the would is on a joint that you move alot I would do the follow 1)cleanse with normal saline (sterile salt water) 2)Pat around the wound dry 3)Coat the wound in Vaseline (a nice layer 2-3mm thickness 4) cover with gauze 5) on removal if it's stuck at all .. saturate the area and dressing with water leave for 5 minutes and the bandage will come off Note * if there is no infection you do not need an antimicrobial on the would. We need to keep it moist as it's a part of the body that moves alot . You can use adaptic or bactigras or any other non stick bandage . But Vaseline will work just fine on the wound Please note these are my personal suggestions based off the information I have recieved, I have not done a full assessment of the wound there for please use at your own risk
You can use this on the wound alone with any type of cover dressing .. the hydrogel is just adding moisture to the wound.if you don't need the added moisture then you do not need the hydrogel.
Hello, thank you for your video. Quick question, can we use the regular size surgical tape (1-2") and just tape the borders of the secondary layer (sterile gauze) down on the edges? Or will that dry the bactigras layer out faster?
Hi Nurse Alyssa, i just done a quick search of bactigras and found your video. I hope you can help me. I'm in the Philippines and recently fell and literally cut my ear nearly in half. The doctor gave me bactigras to place over the stitches. I'm still in quarantine and i have one little strip left but started to do some research. Wouldn't an antibiotic cream make more sense to keep it moist? To promote more even/supple healing? I don't trust the medicare system here frankly. Thanks! Edit: They also instructed me to spray a isopropanol/benzalkonium chloride solution on the wound 3x a day! Wouldn't that dry the skin up? I can't afford any more doctors bills here...
bactigras is what we normally use over stitches, bactigras is moist enough to keep anything from sticking as well an any drainage can can easily move through to the cover dressing. bactigras is an antimicrobial so same thing as the cream. Bactigras is used to prevent infection. It truly is a great choice. Once there is no more drainage and the wound is dry and intact( even with the stitches) you can leave it open to air. if you run out, polysporn is easily accessible and would be ok to use
I don't like mixing antimicrobials. ( Should only use one at a time) you could use a chlorhexidine solution with bactigras . Or I suggest inadine non stick contact layer with povidone iodine . But this is not necessary. I normally just clean with saline then apply the patch.
Hi Nurse Alyssa! May i ask whether you can keep an opened pack of bactigras? I cut a bit of it and made sure everything that touches it is sterile. Wondering if the rest can be kept for later uses. Thanks!
Jelonet and cuticell are the same as they both do not have antimicrobials (good for non infected wounds) bactigas has an antimicrobial (chlorhexidine) on it . All 3 are to prevent the cover bandage from sticking to the wound , reducing trauma during dressing Removal.
Thank you Nurse Alyssa.

Can i use Melolin as secondary dressing, or it will dry the bactigras??
yes you can use melolin, any exudate will go through the holes of the bactigras and absorb into the cover dressing.
Thank you nurse Alyssa
Thanks

Can it be used on an open wound?
Yes, this is a non-contact layer for wounds ( it contains an antimicrobial)

No it will stay moist
Can Bactigras can be used on sloughy wounds?
Yes you can, although a wound will not heal if there is slough in the wound bed. I suggest using a debriding agent/method

Bactigras is painful for the graft site both putting and removing 😢
Before using that, how about povidone? It can be combination before saline 0.9%. #IMO
