    I am Japanese. To be honest, I'm surprised and very happy that this movie is being appreciated by people in the West. It's a shame that it didn't win Best Picture, but it's clear that this movie is great even without the Academy's prestige. It's all thanks to you otakus who made this movie more valuable. thank you!

      I truly appreciate your comment. This film absolutely deserves the accolades and praises it has gotten and it has cemented itself firmly in film history. I hope more and more people get to experience this film.

    All Is 1
    Hi! My name is Pierre. My online community knows me as P.A.Finley, AnonameUs, TheUniVerse. I am a 56 year young Black man born and raised in America... Illinois, Michigan and now in California. I introduce myself this way so you can know exactly where I'm coming from with what I am about to say about this movie.
    This movie was sooooooooooo good, that I didn't even know what I was watching. That's how good it was. The entire movie was a completely 'different' experience entirely. Can't say the last time I was in a movie theater and found myself at times gripping the handrest as if something was going to happen to ME. The closest movies I can compare it to are the ones this movie gives odes to: Jurassic Park. Jaws. Dunkirk. Star Wars. And of course, the original Godzilla.
    To put this into perspective, I was there when Jaws and Star Wars came out. I was a little kid at the time, but this was before PG-Ratings and parents were taking whole families to see movies.
    Godzilla Minus 1 is like that. A breath-taking viewing from start to finish. A roller coaster ride of emotions from beginning to end. The writing. The acting. The sound. The action. Superb... all of them. Only a hand full of films can I say made me feel good about being alive. This is 1 of them.
    Godzilla Minus 1 shows us the absurdity and extreme consequences of war, throwing a floodlight on a part of our human history we are all uncomfortable viewing and talking about. We have way too many of those. This movie hints in a refreshing and so desperately needed, wished for and desired direction of change.
    We here at all things NexA.R.K as well as everything All1llA believe, among other things, that Humanity is 1 human Being. Just as our individual human bodies have billions of moving parts and pieces, so too is it the 1 Human Body. The only difference is, our individual billions of parts and pieces all work together as a unit to do and perform in a 24 hrs day period our every wish, will and desire. Humanity has not evolved to that awareness yet, but that awareness is coming. Soon. Eventually, we as human beings will function as 1 unit.
    We got here to this state of technological marvel by way of war, destruction and conflict. Imagine what we could do united as 1.... warp speed, simply too slow.
    By way of watching this movie, three times, the word 'Godzilla' has been on my mind as of late. 'All1llA' simply means 'All is 1 and 1 is All'. I have a license plate that reads 'ALLIZW1' and an email that reads 'alliz1zilla'. You can see my obsession with this idea.
    'All1llA' and 'alliz1zilla' are words called 'palindromes' - words pronounced the same way forwards or backwards, or what I like to call 'butterfly/mirror' images. Using this imagery in partial reverse with the word Godzilla, we have 'All Iz God'. Taking it a step further, 'All Iz God and God Iz All' Just saying.
    I will close with this. I think the main connection this movie has with me and the audience is that, even the worst of us, the coward of us can sometimes redeem ourselves and become the hero who saves us all. That is a very powerful message. 🤔 Peace and... 😊

    Takashi Yamazaki is a Historian. The main couple & child, all their parents were killed in the "Tokyo Fire Bombing"; mankinds worst. A True event. A newly developed Bomber & Incendiary Bomb created with the intent to "Rain Fire" on the civilian's of Tokyo. More casualties and lost in history to the Hiroshima Bomb. The "Takao" & Warships with that Plane are fact. Love that Historical '38 Japanese manufactured Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Also, what is "Akiko's" stuffed animal, must be an Historic toy too, lol, nah. Noticed these things after a 2nd viewing, ignoring the subtitles, and paying attention to the settings.

    This movie should've been nominated for best foreign film and best film at the Oscars.

    • @ButteredKernels
      @ButteredKernels  2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah an argument could absolutely be made for that. I’m not sure the members of the Academy would let such a film like this reach those heights.

      @@ButteredKernels so it's ok for a movie about an idolized toy doll (Barbie) be nominated but a movie that was more of time piece era with Godzilla serving as a figure of their trauma was not. I think it's kind of petty on the academy to do that

    • @ButteredKernels
      @ButteredKernels  2 місяці тому +1

      I’m not saying it’s ok…the Academy awards are to celebrate the best in films and in my opinion Godzilla Minus One could’ve been nominated for best foreign film. Looking at the Academy’s history “monster” films in general don’t really get a lot of attention or love from the Academy come award season and because of that I think that’s why fans were thrilled to see at least nominated for and win Best VFX this past year.

    I saw this three times - twice in color and once in b&w. It was so good, I wish I had made it to the theater a few more times. The director took this back to the original Gojira in that it was a big MEAN very scary monster. And considering how little the humans had to work with the feeling of impending doom was strong. Having made an emotional connection to the cast, I felt that I would have to watch them die and it really hurt. It was astonishing to see not one single person die in that final battle. Great writing! The cinematography was beautiful, the cast superb, and the film made me believe Godzilla was real.

    I have been a Godzilla fan since 1973 when I was only 6 years old. I grew up on the classic Shows Era, man-in-a-suit, Japanese Godzilla films. These movies were shown frequently on local T.V. in the early 1970's. I drank ALL of the GODZILLA KOOL-ADE! I also fought the seemingly neverending battle to open the eyes of others to the GREATNESS OF GODZILLA! I was crushed when Roland Emmerich DISRESPECTED Godzilla in his 1998 (Excuse Me) SHIT-FEST, and I threw a PARTY to celebrate the release of 'Godzilla 2000', then went to see it at a DRIVE-IN! My point is that I feel that with over 50 years of fandom invested in this character I feel confident in proclaiming 'Godzilla- Minus One' the SECOND BEST GODZILLA MOVIE OF ALL TIME... But 'Gojira' (1954) remains the GREATEST GODZILLA MOVIE EVER! Why? It boils down to the ENDING... IF 'Minus One' had stuck to the FEMALE LEADS DEATH, and had a definitive GODZILLA IS DEAD ending, I may have changed my mind, but... The ending in which Dr. Serizowa takes his own life (Not for PERSONAL GLORY) is EPIC, and at the end of the movie there is no question that Godzilla was KILLED. I understand wanting to have the UP-LIFTING 'EVERY ONE IN THE LITTLE FAMILY SURVIVES' ending, and I know it's hard to kill off a female lead, but imagine if the male lead did what he did and then stared over the ocean holding his daughter with silence.

      Here’s the thing…I 100% agree with you. Definitely would’ve had a much stronger emotional impact if it played out that way.

    I thought the pacing was key to it's success so you were clearly reaching to say something negative. Pity

    • @ButteredKernels
      @ButteredKernels  2 місяці тому

      I did say that I felt it might be a bit nit picky to bring up the pace but I did feel that a couple scenes later in the film dragged on a bit too long for me, but I acknowledge your sentiment about the pacing being key to its success.
