Gartloch Hospital (2005) - FULL DOCUMENTARY

Gartloch Hospital is the hospital that Takin' Over the Asylum (1994) was filmed in, starring David Tennant and Ken Stott. The hospital was still active at the time. This documentary won a 'Best Factual' award at the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival in 2007.
I only have this video thanks to the amazing consanguinitatum on Tumblr. Please check out her blog if you're interested in David Tennant and history - she's doing some amazing work finding and sharing old audios, recordings, etc, particularly from Tennant's early theatre career. Much different content than usual, and I'm not sure if this will get any views at all, but it's something I'm personally interested in so I thought I'd share it for others with an interest to see. I trained with the Scottish Ambulance Service there, at the end of 1983, living in Parker House for 9 weeks. I retired in 2015 after 32 years service.

Thank you for posting this, Takin' Over the Asylum hits very close for me and is kinda sad how people with disabilities, poor or with mental illness were separated from the world so as not to bother or inconvenience others and to a lesser extent to help or protect. This is something that unfortunately continues to happen, but I want to believe that little by little things are improving in this regard.

Man, as both a psychology stundent and person with mental health issues i feel SO pissed and sad watching documentarys like these, it always shooks me how badly people were treated back them, and im glad the show portrayed the patients with realism and respect but also criticized the treatments they were given even by their familys, society and doctors.
Also thanks for the upload and for the campbell edits ( they made me watch the show lol) and your vídeos are great ❤

Other people have commented this already but this is so important in showing both sides of psychiatric hospitals in the past.
The contrast in how the patients viewed the hospital and how the nurses did is really telling.
