  • In 1926 the last wolf was killed in Yellowstone National Park. For 70 years the top predator was missing and elk, its prey, increased dramatically to over 20,000, turning vast areas of Yellowstone into an ecological disaster zone, browsing down the woody vegetation to almost nothing. In 1995 wolves were reintroduced. Now, 20 years later, the eco-system of the park has turned back into balance.

    The wolves in Yellowstone, originally came from Canada, Alghonquin Park actually, because Yellowstone had eradicated their wolves, then realised it was extremely damaging, nor having predators, to keep a balance! Too many bison, elk moose and other tree eaters, erosion damaged the banks of rivers and streams! Alghonquin Park bred the wolves that now live in Yellowstone and they have thinned out the herds that have damaged Yellowstone!🧐🤓

    Very interesting, just watched a European docu about the wolves there, and there are no hierarchy struggles there. The make up of the packs is also different: a pair with a litter from this year and the previous. How come this is different?

    • @klaasdeboer8106
      @klaasdeboer8106 Рік тому +5

      Maybe because wolves have different prey size, here in western Europe it is a lot of roe deer which can be taken by one or two wolves. For elk I think you need more wolves to successfully hunt, but one elk allso feeds more wolves. There are allso no bears over here, so different prey and competition might affect their survival strategy.

    • @Burritosaurus

    • @casadelosotte
      @casadelosotte Рік тому +2

      @@Burritosaurus that is exactly what the European documentary was saying as well. So that means that this info is incorrect in this documentary and the scientist need to rethink and understand more. If that is the case, because I am only an enthusiastic amateur, not a scientist (in this field of science)

    • @Burritosaurus
      @Burritosaurus Рік тому +3

      @@casadelosotte Yes, it was a misconception about the terms of alpha and beta, because the study was performed on captive wolves who are not a family. There is no hierarchy in a wolf pack, everyone is treated as equals and the more dependent members are always given food first like pups and elder wolves.

    Life and death is natural. Always has been and always will be. It's part of everyday life no matter what anyone think or feel about it. This is why I feel so sad everytime some overly fragile people think onesided and think that anything that will eat meat is bad. If they truly cared about nature, they would think about actual balance in which all parts of biology in nature is equally important.
    Wolves deserve to be there as any other animal, so more people simply need to look further than the tip of their nose. Everything has consequences, so long term solutions is the only way to do things.
    Perspective is key.
