“Uncle Jax”…he’s just too good a character to kill off or set down
oh for sure, but damn. the level of trust they have in Jarlaxle now is pretty crazy.
@@TheDrowHistorian But Jarlaxle is so smart, he realized Drizzt is the Main Character a long time ago.
RA Salvatore said at NYCC that (A) He wants to write more trilogies and (B) Monk is his favorite DnD class so Breezy studying martial arts doesn’t surprise me. I’m happy that Drizzt’s training under Montolio is acknowledged and remembered. Zaknafein made Drizzt a Fighter, but it was Montolio that made him a Ranger. Great video!! :)
Awesome to hear that! Thanks for your support and kind words!
Would have loved if RA would have made her a full on Psionicist. All the other "classes" are covered by the other companions and their friends.
@ I'm hoping Yvonnel the 2nd comes back into the picture. She has some funky psionics/cleric power going on.
Fighter seems to fit better imo. No ranger magic, no ranger pet(Gwen does not count), not an archer(Not required, but it is iconic of the class).
Feels more like a fighter with a survival proficiency.
@@shasvrefirios1536 I may make a video about this. I kind of agree.
Wow nice video ! I didn't know Drizzt had a daughter, very interesting. you really make a great job with these vids, I discovered you recently and I enjoy your content a lot !
Thanks so much! Glad you found the channel and happy to have you in the community!
I use audible. I listen daily since I do alot of commuting and travel. The Drizzt stories are the bulk of my audio books.
nice! the audible books are great!
@@TheDrowHistorian Yes they are! I started with the paperback novels of Drizzt. We were trading them during my combat rotation (Afghanistan) back in 2003. When I moved to Japan over a decade ago, I got audible and the first book I picked up was Homeland: even though I have it in paperback already. Victor Bevine is my favorite narrator. I use bits of his narration style when I DM for my current 5E group (in northern Japan).
@@garyvalencia7677 that’s awesome! Love Victor Bevine. New videos every Monday! I hope to see you again!
Love Audible. Have listened to all 39 Drizzt books and will download this new one today as I was not aware of it all. Cannot wait!!
Yay! glad this helped you find it!
Sooooo expensive, each book costing more than a blueray blockbuster movie.
0:01 Ha! Almost got me! I clicked on this without thinking that I have not, in fact, read/heard this one yet. Thanks for the spoiler alert!
it's pretty great! Glad the spoiler warnings are doing work.
"Companions to me" would be "To me my xmen"
..so..Companions... Assemble?
I liked the audio book. I loved that Jax made sure she followed the way of shadow instead of the open hand.
yeah it was great! hoping for an announcement soon!
Nice vid as always. You should do a video about where you think the story will or can go
Thanks for the faith that people would watch that! I may give it a try.
That's pretty cool, I don't listen to any books. So that was completely new to me.
awesome! we've heard rumors it may come to print eventually, but who knows how long that might take.
I don't listen to audiobooks, so this summary is very appreciated. Sounds like an intriguing story. It would be cool if RA would focus more on Drizzt's daughter, Companions of the Hall and/or other supporting characters. Personally I feel like Drizzt's personal arc was done many, many books ago, but the stories of the characters and the unravelling world surrounding him is definitely interesting and engaging.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! And yes, I think Salvatore feels the same. He expressed after Lolth's Warrior that he'll probably focus less on Drizzt and since this story was the newest thing we got, I'm betting Breezy takes center stage.
Read every single book from start to finish. For me, Drizzt retiring with his reincarnated wife and infant daughter with the Eilistraee Drow in the far north was the definitive Happy Ending for him IMO.
Can't wait to read this
no dates for a print release yet but I enjoyed the audio book. Thanks for checking out the video!
I'm confused, his Drow forged scimitars were gone before he ever met Montolio.
I wish this one would come to Apple Books, I love the audio books but have all of them on Apple Books already, I don't wanna switch apps...
This is what is written in the new story: “He checked his scimitars, Drow blades that had lost a considerable amount of their magical edge since he left the Underdark. He hadn't thought much about it before, but he was glad that these were newer blades and not the treasured old swords of House Do’Urden.”
So yeah, it is a bit confusing!
Thanks!!
you're welcome!
Those on gear in Hollywood won't talk about because then they can't get on fitness ads
Very cool. I don't know much about the web toon. We knew Gromph was alive from the end of Lolth's Warrior, if you remember he comes out of his casket in the Hosttower. Pretty cool magic he used to survive the encounter with Lolth!
Thanks for the support and discussions! Would love to have you in the Patreon community. You can join for free if you cant support monetarily. I'm trying to do some cool interactive community things there. Your input would bring a lot to the table!
Doesn’t Drizzt know like a nearly immortal level 20 Monk that killed a dragon?
Grandmaster Kane. He taught Drizzt to harness the Hunter and to think and exist like a monk. His monastery (The Monastery of the Yellow Rose) is where Breezy trained.
Jaraxel is still my favorite Drow.😉
Jarlaxle is the best!
@TheDrowHistorian He was most certainly the most successful Drow to come out of the underdark!
Firstly, thanks for the video - I loved these books when I was growing up, though I kind of lost interest later in life (somewhere around the Cleric Quintet cross-over). But the first 7 particularly still really hold a special place in my heart!
1:34 Does the short story actually state this - that he still has his drow-enchanted scimitars? If I recall correctly, in Sojourn (before he ever gets to IWD), Ugulu snapped one scimitar which he left at the Thistledown crime scene, and Drizzt broke the other one on a stone giant right before meeting Montolio; Montolio gave him surface-made replacements, 1 decent and the other one described as "more ornamental." Not trying to be "that guy" or anything - if it was just a mix-up while sorting the video, no criticism intended! I was just curious if RA himself (or the author, if not him) mixed up those details/made such an odd retcon. Obviously, a tiny thing in context, but it caught my attention.
This is what is said: “He checked his scimitars, Drow blades that had lost a considerable amount of their magical edge since he left the Underdark. He hadn't thought much about it before, but he was glad that these were newer blades and not the treasured old swords of House Do’Urden.”
So I guess I am right and you are right! lol! There are many things in the series like this that contradict certain events. The nature of writing for 40 years in a shared, changing world.
Thanks for watching and the commenting! New lore videos every Monday.
I didn’t know about this story but I’ll definitely check it out!
Yeah, Audible only. The second half is so good!
I really loved Drizzt but i had some issues with the last books i´ve reed. First of all, Jarlaxe became a deux ex machina character, always showing up to save the day. The forever night the drow and orcs had created? Jarlaxe solves it, he even makes the companions believe it was Mielikki, channeling her power through Drizzt, his chosen one. The group is petrified and captures in the shadowfell? Jarlaxe shows up to save them.
Another thing i noticed is that Drizzt himself became jaded, he gets captured by Drago Quick and he doesn´t escape, he even is described as befriending the warlock, so what, he get Stockholm syndrom? Some people told that if he had defeated Drago Quick it would have been too much, that he was too powerful but that´s the problem, as a writer, you have complete control of the narrative. If you put a character in a situation where the only way of escape is improbable it´s on you. So Jarlaxe shows up and saves the day.
And don´t let me start with the abyssal madness. He spent an entire book affected with it, not being himself, thinking everything around him is an illusion, and when he finally snaps out of it he fights Malcanthet and end up poisoned and paralyzed on the floor, and he is saved by Yvonnel and Lolth. So yeah, he gets saved, again.
I did liked The Companions book. Specially Regis second chance, overcoming his fear and becoming a swashbuckler rogue. Even finding love and companions of his own. Of all the stories on that book, Regis was my favourite. I reed until Hero because it was meant to bew the last book. I know Salvatore wrote a whole new trillogy but i know nothing about it.
Sounds like you have a passion for the material with all the knowledge of events. I think Drizzt lost his way after the deaths of the companions and things were very confusing for him.
A lot of the things you mentioned here, especially when he loses his mind and Kimmuriel and Yvonnel work to heal him is some of my favorite stuff.
There have been 6 books since Hero. A lot happens and Jarlaxle does take center stage a decent amount. One trilogy is largely set in the past and covers Zaknafein and Jarlaxle's early life.
I love the new stuff and the writing. I hope you enjoy the channel even if you're not continuing the series. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@TheDrowHistorian I was not aware Drizzt and Cattie-Brie had a child until i watched your video. She seems to be an interesting character. Also monk is not a very used class in this books, it might be interesting to see how Salvatore plays this out.
Please do a story about Athrogate!!!
I’m sure I’ll talk about him in relation to some other characters in future videos. There just isn’t that much to say about him on his own and there are zero visual resources to carry a video.
Understood. He's one of my favorite characters from the books. All the videos you have posted is making me want to get all caught up on the series
@@ralikai37 Yeah! I think I've seen you post about him before. Not trying to dash your hopes, I just have to be realistic about what I can pull off and what videos people will watch. But like I said I will talk about him in some future videos for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting and just keep asking for Athrogate if you want!
Breezy seems to be a half-elf, which is a No No according to the new 5e rules for DnD.
These characters and stories have been ongoing for nearly 40 years and surely surpass D&D and its rulesets.
@@TheDrowHistorian If you follow the inspiration train of connected published works back far enough, it starts with 'Three Hearts and Three Lions' (1953) as Lolth has connections to the Pharisees of Caer Sidi in Module Q1. At the moment it runs from R.A. Salvatore, to Ed Greenwood, to Gary Gygax, to Poul Anderson. That's roughly 72 years.
@ my point is these characters and stories transcend a game.
@ I should say so, as they predate it by decades or centuries, depending on whether or not you buy into the whole Jungian soup around drow/trow, Lolth/Lilith proto-celtic Tuath Dé Danann mishmash.
Dude you seriously need to start looking into narration yourself. You've CLEARLY got the voice for it. And as most high fantasy nerds know, fantasy and/or sci-fi names tend to be 'difficult' to pronounce. Which is something you obviously do well. I've listened to each of your videos a minimum of 3x. I kid you not. Thank you so much.
Man, that’s so cool that you’re enjoying the videos and my voice ❤️ I actually have very sensitive vocal cords and severe asthma. Reading for longer than a few minutes is actually pretty tough. You may notice I sound slightly different video to video. My voice is very sensitive to temperature and humidity.
The funny thing is, I’m a singer. But speaking really kills the vocal cords for me.
I will give you a sneak peak though. I have some of my own fan fiction on Drizzt coming down the road that will be a bit longer and I will of course narrate it.
I really appreciate the kind words and support!
It is absolutely my pleasure. This is clearly a labor of love for you and for us(fans) it's a gift. It's so great to listen to someone talk about the franchise that they love WITHOUT the incessant negativity that far too many youtubers use as click bait. Thank you for this.
Not sure she has even been statted as a character but would she be considered Half-Drow or Half-Elf?
She is Half-Drow. But the story eludes to her being more on the human side of lifespan. Not sure how she would fit into D&D. Are Half-Drow different than Half-Elves in ruleset?
@TheDrowHistorian Yeah, not sure either. Both races AFAIK are in the 3.5 rules set which I'm most familiar with but regarding lifespan I think they're generally the same and top out at around 190-200
But I know the novels don't always follow the game mechanics. Just was a curiosity on my part. Love the content and channel!
@@Naitomea215 much appreciated!
Same thing
@@Naitomea2153.5 for life!!
Great video and I love your work , but the picture of breezy does not look like her at all. Canon picture in the Audible cover art.
Nah. That picture on the audible art is wrong based on the way she is described in the text. She has deep auburn hair like Cattie-brie, darker purple eyes and her skin is described as slightly pink with hints of grey. i took painstaking time on my images of her based on the writing. But everyone is entitled to see her how they want. This is how I see her!
@@TheDrowHistorian It was a really good find/creation. IMO. :)
@ Thanks. I created many images of her, but like I said, everyone has their own interpretations and that's fine. I just make art based the descriptions available and my imagination and this is where i landed with Breezy. Not much to go on right now anyway.
Who is the mother?
@@joseywales7463 Cattie-Brie
@WG_Paladin I guess I stopped reading the series before that.
@
Do you use AI art?
I use a mixture of AI art that I create, official art (like covers and D&D resources) and fan art. My wife has done a couple of paintings in some videos.
@ 😥
Dam, I was so hoping to get more of RAS classic characters like Dagnammit, the Doodad, the force of spike wearing idiot dwarves, and especially the dwarf Muffin head......
Seriously though, I loved the books until the Jarjar Binks level of slapstick silly that was written into the dwarves. Had to quit the series then and have not been able to pick his writing up since.
Flint and the battleragers would be a great vid
He should have had a SON!!!
Why? His daughter is awesome.
@@TheDrowHistorian His son would have been better. Remember Bruenor doesn't have any sons either no is there to carry the legacy. The family name dies with thier daughter smeh... But it's a reflection of our society now.
@@fafilingdoI bet you with your mother was a father...then you could carry two family names!
@@fafilingdoif only your mother was a father…then you could carry two super awesome legacies!
Under the D&D 24 rules a child like Breezy (half elf) can't exist. There is no such thing. I would find it strange for WOTC to even allow such a character in the flagship of their book line.
lol! that's just silly.
Recommend me a hero who has a son, please! I'm tired of all the daughters. *yawn*
sexist mentality. yawn.
@@TheDrowHistorian Hold up now, you're the Drow Historian. Sexism is key to all this...
Xena had a son.
always thought it was pronounced Drow as in row row row your boat.
there are a few that use that pronunciation and everyone can say fantasy names how ever they want, but generally its the way i say it.
