Thank you for your thorough review on B&R, your video is I THINK the only one out there that talks about the curriculum as a whole (1st grade).
Also thank you for pointing out about LA, I'm all about B&R for early ages, but I didn't how how I felt about the fairytales and folklore. I looked into the books ahead of time, but wasn't really convinced, something about those tales wouldn't let me choose the curriculum as a whole....although I do wanna get the math part.
I always thought that the first edition of the program was better, the book choice was more wholesome (and that might be my choice after all)
    Thank you again!

I’m glad I could help!! I too, am so thankful for curriculum reviews, especially since this curriculum didn’t work for us.

😂 omg your dog reminds me of when my dogs walk on our hardwoods while I’m filming and all you hear is their nails tip tapping 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️. Very thorough review! We had almost a verbatim experience as you did so know you aren’t alone. I don’t think it’s a bad curriculum, but just not the right fit for us. For example, one of my good friends had the best experience with B+R Grade 1 bundle this past year and will continue with it! That’s the beauty of homeschooling - being able to pick what works for us! 🥰 Great review video!

@@MaryBarfield lol yes🐕 haha. Thanks! I was SUCH a green homeschooler when I bought that curriculum (still am, right?!) but yes, I can see why it works for some. I actually have a pretty humbling moment coming up on my curriculum reveal with B&R 🤦🏼‍♀️😆 Just waiting on our charter school to purchase all my stuff. I’m chomping at the bit to talk 2nd grade!

I think if you love science books and fairytales and folklore, it’s mostly great. And again, the Book Seeds are so good! Otherwise, yeah it fell short.

So appreciate how real you are!! Sometimes I think there are curricula that are popular because they’re talked about, not because they’re necessarily the best (for every learner of course!) I also just couldn’t get with B&R. Wish it worked for us but it just fell flat. It’s not the only one!

Thank you! I actually really appreciated this “negative” review and have found it at least as helpful as the positive ones.
I am finding that I am NOT an open-and-go style educator in most subjects and this might be just the right amount of outline that I’m looking for. One man’s trash (and all that jazz).
And your dog was cracking me up 😂

It is just too hard for me to have all areas of school too loose. I need some open and go aspects. I too eagerly ordered stuff and once I looked at it, I realized I couldn't add in another literature course. I need open and go for at least one subject!

Just so you know the lines in the student notebook aren't actually small, you're supposed to use the dark lines as the lines and the lighter line as a middle guiding line to help with letters like h,p,q, capital and lowercase size difference etc. It could be clearer, especially considering not everyone has a great printer

Hey, true! I know how the lines work but I think because there is no space between them, she is easily confused how to use them

This was a fun video, I personally liked the last video, but I understand why you took it down. Is your dog ok?

You expect a lot from your kids, and expect a whole curriculum to cater to your kids. To cross out a whole page when I thought about how I would change it up for my kids age is really sad. Nothing is going to be what you want.
Change it to what you can use with the same idea. Dont throw it away if you already have it. Dang. Throw away money instead of using it as a PROMPT. It is meant to use as a guidance. Why are you letting them tell you what to do, as opposed to you telling the book how you're going to use it. The people making them aren't magicians, you need to use your imagination as well.

“Really sad?” I’m a brand new homeschooler doing this with two young kids. I don’t think needing a little hand holding is “really sad.” I know my kids and I know what will or won’t work for us so I am searching for curriculum that fits those needs. If I don’t find it, I will do it myself, no problem (which I am, with science). That’s the beauty of homeschool. I get to cross out a page whenever I please. And you don’t need to worry about my pocketbook.
