Your reflections have been so helpful as we are moving into first grade. Also, using sheet protectors with brads for the book seeds is so smart!

Logic Of English is really great if you want to look into that. It doesn't have a ton of parts and you can go as slow as your child needs. & there is a lot of parent support!

My oldest kiddo has some struggles with decoding and All About Reading has really helped him out. Between the flashcards, the letter tiles, and all the cutting for activities it can seem like a lot but after a bit it's seamless. Switching from sitting at the table doing flashcards as a warm-up to the floor for letter tiles (we use the physical tiles) then back to the table for activities gives my kid a bit of a brain break if that makes any sense. What tripped me up at the start was all the cutting but now I have my kid do the cutting work for the next lesson as part of his school day. Cutting was another skill he struggled with so we knock out two birds with one stone. Hopefully the 100 easy lessons works for your kids, if not, I highly recommend looking at AAR once again.

We did Montessori reading approach, and transitioned to Charlotte Mason readers and poems to help with pronouncing words they don't understand but can figure out with the rhyming. I do not teach grammar...there is no need and it may be an unpopular opinion...but I was a writing Tudor in college and never have I thought about adjectives and predicates 😂 not even in my day-to-day

Since you love FLL by the Well Trained Mind, you might also love The Ordinary Parents’ Guide to Teaching Reading, also by TWTM. It’s scripted just like FLL and is an all in one book. It takes you from the beginning phonics all the way up to a level 3 reading level. After completing it they can begin reading books on their own.
Great year end review! Love seeing new curriculum!

Yes thank you! I looked into what is a good follow up to teacher your child in 100 lessons and that program came up as a good one to follow so that’s our plan!

Beautiful Feet history is amazing! However, their Geography is not as fun unfortunately.
We have used All About Reading and even though there are a lot of “parts”, I have to say it’s a fun way to learn! Their stories are very engaging and there are no workbooks. Very fun if you ever want to take the leap!
Thanks for all of the info! It sounds like you’ve had a great year overall!

Not alone in the reading struggles!! I feel the same way about All About Reading, it just seems like sooo much stuff. We’ve been doing Moffatt Girls Science of Reading from TPT since September, and just added in TGTB LA K and are slowly moving through it. I also bought the Usborne like 50 book set on phonics. It starts with “I read, you read” books, where the kids only read a few words per page and my kid LOVES it. Really good for confidence building.
We haven’t started BF US Geography yet but I’m also just not enthused with it. I’m thinking about just developing my own book list & activities for my kids 😅

@@ashleymurphy4813 I’ve also seen leveled nonfiction readers on tpt that I’m very tempted to grab!! Would love to find more of the “I read, you read” type books! Really encourages my reader
