    Every modern Seiko uses a 28.5mm dial. The only difference being crown position, that is 3 or 4 o’clock. I believe the movement spacers are different thicknesses which is preventing the case back from closing properly even though they are the same color. There is a gap in the movement spacer that needs to be precisely aligned with the crown tube where the stem goes and the movement will drop right in. You should also be wearing gloves or finger cots at the very least, have a small blower and Rodico for removing dust. You don’t want oils and acids from your hands on the dial or movement. If you simply place the movement dial up and then lower the case onto it while paying attention to the 12 o’clock position, things will align themselves. You made it a bit harder than need be but it worked anyway. Not bad for your first effort.

    • @TimedSquare
      @TimedSquare  5 років тому +6

      Thanks Steven for all the feedback. And yes, I figured out that the spacer was in fact thicker after I shot the video, and that's why it wouldn't fit depth-wise. You're completely right about finger cots... I was just too impatient, I wanted to make that mod for 3 weeks at least, waiting for the holiday season to finish in order to shoot this :) Thanks again!

      So if the back case was align properly it will close?

    • @stevenwymor1398
      @stevenwymor1398 5 років тому +6

      @@redsox7897 no, you need to swap the movement spacers from one to the other because one of the spacers is about a millimeter or two thicker. The issue about aligning the spacer with the crown tube was getting it to drop into the case at all. Once that happens you just gently press down on the plastic spacer ring moving arond the circumference to make sure it's fully seated and then screw the case back on.

    • @redsox7897
      @redsox7897 5 років тому +1

      @@stevenwymor1398 in the video he took out the movement with the spacer. he should have swap the movement only without the spacers correct?

    • @stevenwymor1398
      @stevenwymor1398 5 років тому +8

      @@redsox7897 you can't take the movement out without the spacer, so no, you need to remove the dial and hands to be able to remove the spacer. But if you need to do that, just swap dial and hands and leave the spacer on the movement. But let's say you're upgrading the movement from a 7S26 to an NH36 aka 4R36. Then you need to remove dial and hands, then remove the spacer, swap day wheels for the 4 o'clock crown alignment, transfer everything over to the NH36 starting with the spacer dial and hands in that order. All these movements have the same ligne, they just need the correct spacer to properly fit into whatever case they will be installed.

    thank you so much for this video! this gave me confidence that a total beginner can do a movement swap. just swapped the snxs79 and snkl15 cases. love the end result with the snxs79 dial in the snkl15 case! both movements fit both cases in my swap, only had to use little bit of force to get them in.

    The SNXS spacer, although being black is actually the same depth as the normal grey spacer. The movement you have now put in the SNK case is now not flush with the caseback and could over time snap the stem.

    I see I'm not alone in this thinking and I agree the 01V0 is one of the nicest Seiko 5 cases, especially for the more refined dress watch style dials! I woke up today subconsciously wondering about the possibility of swapping the dial in my SNXS79K, which hasn't even arrived yet, into a SNKL41J1 style case which I already have and love. Excellent and perfectly timed review, Alessandro! Because of you I picked up a lightly used SNK371 at a great price. If it can fit I think the sport style SNK371 blue and yellow dial would look sharp in the SNXS79 case a lot better, especially with a NATO or possibly rubber strap.

    Hi. I tried to do this mod yesterday after seeing your video, having a snxs79 and a snk l41, and ran into the same problem, the snk l41 spacer didn't went into the snxs79 case, and I thought i had to change the spacer, wich seems very daunting having to remove the hands, dial, day date wheels, plus the spacer wich is press fitted and hard to remove for me...so I gave up. But then I had another ideea, that worked easily...and that was to interchange the dials and hands, so now I have the snk l41 with the snx s79 dial and hands and viceversa. Worked a dream and I am happy that I can wear both watches.

    I have done a similar mod of swapping different movements with the 7s26. Something to bear in mind is that 7S26 movements come in various variants of A, B and C. So my case was the spacer was different exactly like yours where I was swapping between A and C I think. To solve the issue of not being able to close the caseback I swapped the casebacks and followed the original movement with the same caseback and you will be able to close both.

    I need to start learning how to fix or mid watches and get some tools, especially after just changing batteries at a cheap place that was a Seiko dealer of 40 years and getting a watch case scratched. I tried to tell them to be careful bc I like my watches in mint condition. He said he knows what he’s doing and I have no experience and already can tell what he was doing wrong for 49 years. He didn’t put a soft cloth on that thing that hold the watch while using the key thing to open the back. It was a old one that was made out of wood with no cloth be break the impact of the wood and polish metal around the crystal. I winder how many he knows what he’s doing watches he’s damaged. Oh and he sell Seiko and Casio too and I’m sure ahistorical the metal bands with the primitive wood watch holder that eats watch faces. Geeez!

    Next you should put a sapphire crystal in it.

    What did you do with the one that you didn't like as much?

    I agree with you that that is the best case in my opinion on Seiko 5 watches but the other case usually comes with the better dials, better bracelet clasp (in my opinion) and better lug/strap size.

    It's funny how when I watch the pros do it, they make it seem so easy. You probably did a far better job than I would ever do.

      I know, right? It was not that hard really, I think pretty much everybody that has a bit of patience can do it :)

    Nicee :D Looks superb and super easy when you do it. Im fascinated by this watch now. I would like to see one video with lume in all light conditions of this watch :D Does anyone know where can i find this watch for cheapest ? There are other variants 73 and 77 on creationwatches but not 79 :/ and on most other sites price is around 110-120 $

    The leftover dial would look great in an SKX case. It would be an über Rolex explorer homage.

    First comment. Did you scratch the case while removing the bracelet?

    • @TimedSquare
      @TimedSquare  5 років тому

      No I didn't. There is a small scratch on the case that came from wearing the watch, and the scratch on the crystal... 🤷‍♂️I think it appeared when I got it back from repair, but I'm not 100% sure. And I don't know how / why watchmakers would do this. A bit of a mystery...

      Thank you! The SNKK71 has a very different case, but it might still work.

    Great result. There was a discontinued Seiko model which I can’t seem to find online anymore tha was a like an even more refined version of the Sarb033 with a thicker marker at 12 o clock - think it was a Brightz model. It was gorgeous- this mod reminds me that a little bit....

    Great tutorial Alessandro, i have a question for you. is it possible to convert Seiko 5 SNXS79 (original case) hardlex crystals to sapphire?
    if yes, can you recommend us wich sapphire should i buy?
    thanks a lot

    • @TimedSquare
      @TimedSquare  5 років тому

      It's possible, but you need the tools and skills. I haven't searched which one you should buy - there are channels which go into a lot more detail when it comes to modding. Cheers!

    how do we make sure the watch is at the right specification of water resistant ?? Is it that it need to change the brand new gasket inside ? Or it need other job to make sure it is at right water resistant specification? btw i am enjoying your video in ur channel , i had a seiko snk381 and i love it now by far . Keep it up 👍

    • @TimedSquare
      @TimedSquare  5 років тому +1

      Hey, after you do something like this (or every time you open the case back really), you have to take to someone who can pressure-test it. This is the only way to know if the gasket is still positioned properly and that the watch is water resistant. Thank you for the support!

    It was so helpful thanks for this vid. I’m concerned now, planning to do the same with my snxs77 + snk357 bit i still want to use both of them. Im curious, how you closed the donor’s spinning back in the end.
