Making 251s Sound Better w/ Extensions | Using Autumn Leaves (1/2)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 лип 2024
- Autumn Leaves is a very easy jazz song because it's just 2 sets of 251s, one onto the root and one onto the 6th. In this video, instead of worrying about the melody, learn to enhance the 251s because then you can apply the knowledge to almost any other jazz numbers. Be prepared for lots of minor 11ths and 9ths!

Additional comment - (The composer of “Autumn Leaves” was Joseph Kosma, a Hungarian 🇭🇺 who used to live in Budapest. Then, he emigrated to France 🇫🇷. Jacques Prevert, a French composer wrote the words. I love the French version ( Les Feuilles Mortes).) 🥰
How interesting! Never knew it. Nice to know! Things often find their way back to Budapest!
That's awesome! I am currently learning/practicing the Autumn leaves using one of your old videos. I transposed it myself to Bb.
Great. Bb is a nice key 🤓 Hope you’ll have fun making the chords sound better and finding new shapes!
That is an excellent source of inspiration ❤
The first time I learned to play “Autumn Leaves” from Dan’s earlier video lesson titled “ “ Autumn Leaves” - Starting Out Easy & Getting More Complex | Techniques & Improvisation” which was dated back 5/1/2020. I started with only seven chords in key of “G” i.e. : B7/A, Em, Am7, D7, GM7, C/E, & F#m7b5 etc. which is (in number) 3-6-2-5-1-4-7 so on and so forth. This time I learn to add extensions like 9, 11, and 13 thus making chords sounded fuller and richer. I love the song. Much appreciated, Dan.👍👍
Thanks Andrew. Your knowledge of my videos has always been better than my own! I'm always looking forward to hearing and watching your progress and efforts... perhaps in the new year? I'll make a part 2 very soon with some melodic improvisation ideas for you to copy/create your own from!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Best,
Dan
@@danthecomposer Same here with Merry Christmas to you. I am looking forward to your Part 2 of “ Autumn Leaves”. Since this is such a lovely song with melancholy it is worthy while learning more melodic improvisation. Thanks Dan as always.
