The fact that they both made it easy to mash out of AND kill you first feels like a bit of an over correction from smash 4's cheese Also slightly unrelated, but I really wish they transitioned a few custom moves to some echo fighter's move sets so there can be some more differences between the two characters. (Gannon included, even though he technically isn't an echo)

After playing Smash Ultimate for so long, looking back at this game is both weird and sad. Weird for the mechanics and physics, and sad because characters like Bayonetta killed it in the end. RIP to smash 4.
@@DankyApe Considering the dominance of characters like Steve and Sonic I really do not think Ults late game competitive meta is much better than Smash 4s. Bayo and cloud were incredibly stupid and for sure hurt Smash 4, but claiming all this diversity in character usage is a little disingenuous for a couple reasons. One, it's only natural that a game with a much larger roster will also have more characters that can actually keep up in competition. Two, it's not the overall playerbase that matters when we talk about top players being diverse in characters. It's top 16/top 8 of large scale major tournaments that defines how "diverse" things actually are. Seeing lots of sonic and steve isn't much better than seeing a lot of Bayo and Cloud imo
I miss Smash 4 Ryu, not necessarily because he was better, but because he didn't have auto turn or proximity normals, that simplicity made him much funner to play.
People call this the worst game, but everything that makes it the worst are things that I'd never have any other way. It's so goofy. Cloud nair won entire matchups and it wasn't even his best move. Corrin's counter was a thing of beauty. Ryu's kill confirm window getting larger and larger due to rage was a true blessing. And then there was Lucario's aura stacking so hard with rage that you're not "losing" until you've actually lost.
Also the fact that custom moves and the way you can augment your character stats gives this game its own unique (and in my opinion, slightly better) experience compared to ultimate's spirit system. Though the fact that you have to grind so much for customs sucks though

Seeing this is making me realise how much better Ultimate is from a balancing standpoint but that is also one of ultimates problems since so many characters are viable. But damn the difference between top tiers, true top tiers and the rest is massive.

People disliked Injustice 2 because they claimed that the top tiers were all lame zoner chars. When your top tiers aren't fundies/spacing based characters or rush down characters typically the average person is gonna dislike the game. Even tho ultimate has "the most viable characters" doesn't stop every top 8 being filled with steve and sonic.
I think Ultimate went in a relatively positive direction after this game. The changes to make the game more casual-friendly while still being competitive is no easy feat, and overall, they pulled it off well. Ultimate just needed some quality-of-life polish, and a bit more content. I would have loved to see modes for "ranked" and "casual" smash online personally, and for some of the cut content of past titles to return.
As someone who is obsessed with Smash 4, this was so much fun to watch! I love seeing you and the chat remembering things that I never forgot because I love Smash 4 too much. I play mostly Ultimate but Smash 4 never left me, I still miss the game. I'm sad For Glory ended, I was playing it literally until the moment it shut down. I was a Falcon main too so that might help explain why I love it so much despite how stupid it was sometimes. Still never clicked with a Smash character like I did with Falcon in 4. . .

Im sorry, ultimate never peak for your man. After smash 4 ended. I was pretty ready for ult but i got hit with the brawl effect. I just couldnt get behind the gameplay for ultimate. It felt like the more thought out play were the decided factor and now they just want you to mash your face on the controller till you win. I'll take rage over buffer anyday. What more worse losing to an opponent or yourself. I rather know my opponent truly 100% beat me. Even if he got a corny rage kill. Ill still give it up to him. At least everything came out for both party.
Ryu was more of an all-rounder combo character in 4 with good kill confirms. Its the issue with ultimate ryu, he's just combos. Terry is more like ryu in smash 4 then actual ryu himself. Its probobly why riddles plays em.
