this is honestly the best custom character that Ive seen in a mod, and a lot of it comes to the way he's animated. The person who made this loves sans and understands his character well, really feels like they have an actual good sense of game design and what goes into making a character feel animated
Sans’ skin references: 1. Sans the Skeleton 2. Sans as he appears in his fight (it could also be Gaster but the first one seems more likely) 3. Flowey the Flower 4. Toriel 5. Papyrus the Skeleton 6. Undyne 7. Mettaton 8. Chara
It's also quite likely that Sans "bleeds" ketchup when you defeat him. Because the red stuff that comes out of him can't be blood if he's really just a skeleton.
The base animations for sans were ripped from PM EX. The re-done anims are a combined effort of myself, PhazoGanon (creator of Armstrong) and superevan5. A lot of anims are going to change between now and release as well :)
I mean this is a small detail to ask for, but I feel like adding “MISS” above Sans’ head when he roll dodges, spot dodges, or Up-Bs before you hit him would a really nice aesthetic thing to add, since I dont really know how you could incorporate him dodging instead of taking hits like everyone else as a mechanic 😅

Only thing "missing" would be giving tick damage to his attacks. Make his overall attacks weaker in damage, but all do damage over time for like 3 seconds.
i have always imagine a lore accurate sans in smash would be more like a glass-canon type, he would deal a broken amount of damages while only take one hit to kill him
I also liked the idea of the youtuber brawlfan where sans' movement wouldn't be impressive at all. He won't even make a brisk walk to go from one place to another, this would make the broken teleport actually balanced and would make sense

The amount of effort that they put into this moveset is insane! I think my favorite move is the trombone up aerial, it’s also cool how most of his bone moves deal poison damage to mimic the karma from the actual game! Edit: fixed it
This borders the quality of how an official character looks. Animations are crispy as fuck, moves are very inspired and unique, and the balance of him already seems pretty on point. It's some incredible work.
And the OG dude who made this even gave permission for uses and approved of all the changes Fun Fact: He didn’t play Undertale when he made the Sans moveset in PMEX Remix. He has since played Undertale.

I’d imagine, like in game, he snaps and brings out the box a la spacies and then he does the “it’s a beautiful day outside” as he’s pummeling you and then finishes with “should be burning in hell.” maybe a joker-type win screen where if he kills with that, you get the same screenshot but as the background.
I was also thinking it could be his "get dunked on" attack, since in game it a guaranteed OHKO. It would have him trap you in the soul box, then pelt you with a massive amount of bones.

All things considered he doesn’t seem CRAZY broken, which is actually good. They should probably increase the F Tilt stun, and the blue bones should be avoidable by standing still (couldn’t tell if they just never stood still during them or if they don’t have that property), but overall very creative and a nice mix of his silly and serious sides
I think he's kinda broken. His side B and neutral B discorage approach from from full stage. If you try and move in his aerials and tilts have very good range (especially f-tilt, it looks longer than cloud backair) and if you get close his up special is a free escape with no lag so you can't even punish it. If this character were balanced he would need to have some of his decent combo potential removed (Down air is a combo throw, nair seems like a combo move) and probably needs a lot more lag on his up special. I would also remove knockback from neutral special, since that move is kind of insanely good.

I’m not a coding expert so I’d imagine it would take quite a bit of new programming to specifically implement that, but it would be cool if it is possible! Maybe making it so it’s not a traditional hitbox, it’s more like an area of effect similar to like, Swirlix’s slowdown effect, but changing its property so that it *does* do damage, not slowdown, but only if the opponent is not doing any input or they are shielding. Since making a special hitbox that only sometimes hits sounds like it may be harder, that’s why I’m thinking maybe an area of effect would work better…? But again I’m no expert, just an idea
Couple changes I would implement; Make the 'roll' animation his famous sidestep (What? You think I'm just gonna stand here and take it?) Make his Final Smash an abridged version of his 'penultimate attack' (Short cutscene of the 'wavy tunnel of bones' into 'being surrounded by Gasters/spinning lasers of death') Change Up Smash to a scaled-down version of his 'Get dunked on' bone impaling, similar to Bayonetta's in size but with the lingering hitbox of Ness' Down Smash as long as you hold the button Make throws his 'toss you telepathically into a wall' attack, complete with 'arm directing you' animation As someone said, make more of his attacks have a leeching/damage-accumulating property I reckon these would give him a lot more individuality and prevent the risk of lots of his moves looking similar ala Sonic. I do like the idea of Side Special being a delayed attack like Zelda's Down Special, though could be worth making aerial ones horizontal too, to replicate his 'Multiple Gaster blasters attack you on different levels' move.

Edit: Constructive criticism without complements 😅 I love how they ACTUALLY gave Sans a unique fighter (not just a Mii costume) and the style they gave him is amazing, really allows him to fit in the game while keeping the threatening-yet-goofy charm he's had in the original game. Great mod!
While I don't hate a single character inclusion like the angry Twitter mobs do, I do have to admit that it's pretty lame how there's not a single indie game rep in all of smash. Sans genuinely would've been such a good choice too, because he's straight up more popular than most of the AAA reps in smash!

Was honestly expecting his final smash to be something that takes you to the Undertale battle box where you have to dodge a bunch of attacks, bones and Gaster Blasters
This honestly might be the first modded character I've actually wanted to play. I don't even play smash anymore, but this genuinely might make me pick it up again just for this mod alone.
Oh my god this is amazing. The references are totally on point and it super cool seeing how they adapted his moveset into smash. I do have a little bit of criticism, but it's more like suggestions. I think sans's final smash should be more like his final attack, where he grabs one player and throws them around the screen, hitting anyone that gets in their way. They could either be thrown out of the blast zone and killed or just slammed back into the ground where they were grabbed. I think sans's weight is really important to how he should play, since his moveset is pretty strong and from the looks of it his weight is pretty low; the modders definitely knew what they were doing. Still though, he could definitely be just a little lighter than pichu, but have a dodge mechanic like bayo or mythra. Where he still takes a bit of damage but no knockback. Super awesome mod, probably the best one I've seen for smash ultimate.
From what it looks like, a lot of these moves seem inspired by Sans in Rivals of Aether, because they seem pretty simillar, like the grab with the heart, trumpet up air, and side B gaster blaster. Not complaining though, that mod was fire
The ketchup is a reference to people speculating sans surviving chara’s attack and the blood is actually ketchup, he doesnt die immediately when hit, we gain no exp and he bleeds when papyrus doesn’t so it probably is just ketchup
If the modders are able to turn Sans into a custom character - does this mean Cuphead, Dante, Shantae, Doomslayer, Altair, Geno, Tails, Geomon, Arthur and many other characters who were mii costumes get the same treatment as well?

The final smash should’ve been Sans putting you in the attack box and rapidly throwing you around constantly like how he does at the end of his final attack, then finishing it off with Gaster blasters from all 8 directions aimed towards the center of the attack box
It'd be interesting if the soul in his grab attack was upside down and faded out whenever he attacked a non human character. Also he needs gloves. And, shouldn't his only good stat be speed? I mean, it's probably for the best that that detail was ignored, since, he probably wouldn't be fun to play as otherwise.
Can all of you super talented modders please get together as a team to balance, polish and add all those awesome modded characters into a one-package-mod for the players? That would be the best thing ever.
I think sans should have the lowest stats in the game, good or bad, and if he needs it, flower damage for every attack to practically double the damage.
4:59 As an undertale fan I can explain some things, that you get effect is whats called kr dmg or karma 7:13 sans likes to drink ketchup same for other au's, swaptale papyrus drinks honey, under fell sans drinks mustard, etc "Some" of his outfits are actual au's (just classic sans wearing them instead)
Ik mods are really fucking hard but if he had a command grab that out you into the combat box from undertale and it let you smash them in different directions like in the boss fight oh my god
Personally, I think his Final Smash should pull an opponent into the Undertale attack box and be bombarded by his opening attacks because he said that was his *strongest* attack.
If San's neutrals could reach the closest opponent at any position within range, that would be broken but I think that would be closer to what happens in undertale.

Color 2 being monochrome is a reference to the fights in Undertale, where monster sprites are monochrome. Due to the nature of the Undertale community, many of the alt colors can also function as references to various AUs, or "Alternate Universes". If you really squint (metaphorically speaking), Color 7 could be seen as not only a Mettaton EX reference, but also a Lusttale reference. I highly doubt it was intentional, since Lusttale is considered one of the black sheep of Undertale AUs, but the color scheme DOES match up. Color 8 can double as a reference to the Storyspin AU, where Sans takes the place of Chara. Technically speaking, Color 8 can also function as a reference to Asriel Dreemurr, who wears an identical outfit as Chara, but seeing how Sans and Asriel have 0 connections whatsoever, this is purely coincidental.

The karma effect (in the original game) isn’t actually poison
It’s just delayed damage added to the multi-hit attacks to make the fight a bit easier

I tried my absolute hardest to code this and I’m still trying before the official release, but it doesn’t seem like something that can be done sadly

@@kenjamin9147 Kinda, but to clarify, I don't just want the blue attack not only not hurt an opponent standing still, but also to hurt an opponent that moves. So I would argue not even a nerve. If anything it's a buff. It's an easy way to screw up an opponent.

Edit: Constructive criticism without complements 😅 I love how they ACTUALLY gave Sans a unique fighter (not just a Mii costume) and the style they gave him is amazing, really allows him to fit in the game while keeping the threatening-yet-goofy charm he's had in the original game. Great mod!

When DLC was rolling out, Sans was my number 1 character i wanted in. It's cool to finally see him as a real character.
While I don't hate a single character inclusion like the angry Twitter mobs do, I do have to admit that it's pretty lame how there's not a single indie game rep in all of smash. Sans genuinely would've been such a good choice too, because he's straight up more popular than most of the AAA reps in smash!

(Being a fan of Undertale and seeing how they made references to the game and the Beefy Smash Dudes have no idea kinda bugged me, so I made this)
It's by far the most expressive and Smash fitting mod ever made. It just feels right, like it was meant to be there !
Kinda dissapointed sans final smash isn't the circle of Gaster Blasters as seen in the final attack from the actual fight. but overall this is a great mod!

Was honestly expecting his final smash to be something that takes you to the Undertale battle box where you have to dodge a bunch of attacks, bones and Gaster Blasters

I love the move set. He basically just uses the bones in slightly different ways which seems very lazy but that’s exactly what sans is, lazy.
This honestly might be the first modded character I've actually wanted to play.
I don't even play smash anymore, but this genuinely might make me pick it up again just for this mod alone.

The references are totally on point and it super cool seeing how they adapted his moveset into smash. I do have a little bit of criticism, but it's more like suggestions.
I think sans's final smash should be more like his final attack, where he grabs one player and throws them around the screen, hitting anyone that gets in their way. They could either be thrown out of the blast zone and killed or just slammed back into the ground where they were grabbed.
I think sans's weight is really important to how he should play, since his moveset is pretty strong and from the looks of it his weight is pretty low; the modders definitely knew what they were doing.
Still though, he could definitely be just a little lighter than pichu, but have a dodge mechanic like bayo or mythra. Where he still takes a bit of damage but no knockback.
Super awesome mod, probably the best one I've seen for smash ultimate.

This is actually one of the best custom characters I've ever seen
From what it looks like, a lot of these moves seem inspired by Sans in Rivals of Aether, because they seem pretty simillar, like the grab with the heart, trumpet up air, and side B gaster blaster.
Not complaining though, that mod was fire

The ketchup is a reference to people speculating sans surviving chara’s attack and the blood is actually ketchup, he doesnt die immediately when hit, we gain no exp and he bleeds when papyrus doesn’t so it probably is just ketchup

The final smash should’ve been Sans putting you in the attack box and rapidly throwing you around constantly like how he does at the end of his final attack, then finishing it off with Gaster blasters from all 8 directions aimed towards the center of the attack box

It'd be interesting if the soul in his grab attack was upside down and faded out whenever he attacked a non human character.

If San's neutrals could reach the closest opponent at any position within range, that would be broken but I think that would be closer to what happens in undertale.

With the exception of the default (for obvious reasons) and color 2 (which wasn't shown at this part of the video), all of the alternate colors are references to other characters seen in Undertale, specifically:
-Flowey the Flower
-Toriel Dreemurr
-Papyrus
-Undyne the Undying
-Mettaton EX
-Chara Dreemurr
Additionally, the colors are ordered by the associated character's first appearance.
Color 2 being monochrome is a reference to the fights in Undertale, where monster sprites are monochrome.
Due to the nature of the Undertale community, many of the alt colors can also function as references to various AUs, or "Alternate Universes". For the uninitiated, AUs are basically elaborate fanfics that changes something substantial to create a different take on the game's story, the most well-known being Underfell, which is defined by its edgy tone and red hue.
Color 4 can double as a reference to the Storyswap AU, where Sans takes the place of Toriel (among others, such as Altertale, but Storyswap is the one where Sans adopts this color scheme.)
Because the symbol on Papyrus's armor is a reference to the starmen in Earthbound, Color 5 inherits that reference, which is cool, since Undertale takes heavy inspiration from Earthbound (also, the whole "Sans is Ness" thing)
Unfortunately, there isn't really a good connection to Underswap, an AU where characters swap places and personalities with the character linked closest to them, since Swap!Sans wears a vastly different outfit from Papyrus in Undertale.
If you really squint (metaphorically speaking), Color 7 could be seen as not only a Mettaton EX reference, but also a Lusttale reference. I highly doubt it was intentional, since Lusttale is considered one of the black sheep of Undertale AUs, but the color scheme DOES match up.
Color 8 can double as a reference to the Storyspin AU, where Sans takes the place of Chara.
Technically speaking, Color 8 can also function as a reference to Asriel Dreemurr, who wears an identical outfit as Chara, but seeing how Sans and Asriel have 0 connections whatsoever, this is purely coincidental.
I’m sure if Sakurai would’ve let Toby get a full-fledged character in the game he would’ve jumped at that opportunity. Guess there was still salt from losing against him so this is the best he got lol

I honestly hope he becomes official soon, ultimate was amazing but there were so many missed opportunities to have an even bigger roster.
