First, I appreciate you taking the time to film this. I also understand now that starting any project like this evidently requires lots & lots of TAPE...
That's where my praise ends. Very random project & with no explanation of the parts used, how or why they are connected as they are, no explanation of the expected goal or anything that would actually give INSTRUCTION. I'm a beginner but understand why you wrapped the coils as you did (though you gave no specifics concerning this), & also realize that it's probably going to short out with any real use considering how much electricity will be flowing through the coils. If you bring it up high enough to arc through air, it can also arc through that tape. Again, I appreciate the initiative, but this answered none of my questions that I was researching for.
you need big ferrite transformer first wind secondary of 0.1 mm enamelled wire 1000-1200 turns and after each 100 turn put a layer of tape after that wind primary 8-0-8 turn 0.5mm wire and use more tape between the secondary and primary windings next take transistor or mosfet in case of transistor put a diode in series to the resistor with mosfet no diode needed one end of primary goes to the resistor connected to base/gate other goes to collector/drain negative input to emitter and center tap of primary to + input
for it to start arcing through tape you need to produce high enough voltage 100 turns cannot generate enough voltage to arc through tape
it takes around 2 amps when producing arcs

very weak isolation of each layer coil for that arc will jump another winding and burn the transformer, whole hard working will dump so use heat resistence tape (kapton tape)

Hello! The device and the job are good! But there are electric arcs between windings 😒7:55. Inreasing count of layers in the HV winding may solves this problem .In my oppinion - there may be a thin paper as isolation between layers and the winding must be impregnated by alkyd varnish. To dry such winding I used a glass gar vith 0.5L volume and an electric halogen lamp 30W inside. A lid of the jar preventing spread of smell and save heat. The temperature there was roughly 60Deg Celsius. I did such a lighter - because here is War in Ukraine and electricity turning off several times on day.

how much batery voltage for this project?
So i have a question, i'm a dumbass with electricty, just now started learning about it .
With these structures soldered like so, could i just solder it to a usb cable , would it give the same outcome? or will it always be 5v the charger can give?
Nevermind the answer got to me, it wouldn't work because that inductor soldered with the mosfet is actually meant to power up 9v or 12v if im not mistaken.
So it would need a higher power voltage than usb port which is limited to 5v in normal USB-A Ports.
The only dumb question in life is the one you DON'T ask. You aren't a dumbass at all. Question everything.

Great video but are we meant to count the wire turns? One repeats anything on ytube at one’s own risk of course, even when the instructions are clear. However when instructions miss out essential info it makes it potentially dangerous and posters simply irresponsible. Try to be very clear and precise Im sure you do not intend anyone get hurt but there’s always someone who will try to make it bigger because they find the small one too fiddly. Many posters put very clear instructions - you should too. Im sure you are no amateur.
I used nail polish instead of tape to build mine. As i rolled it up, i added more nail polish, eliminating air between windings...voila, no air to ionize means no sparks inside the coil...also, it can be smaller with same output when using nail polish. As far as this video, no real explanation of anything...

The transformer coil is arc in at 7:53 minutes and again at 8"20 minutes. you could have painted the HV winding with varnish and let it dry and come back to it the next day and run the test

Size of enamel copper wire...Primary=28 awg.secondary=33awg.turn of wire. secondary=7-0-7.primary=180.just make it accordingly wat I said.

I even found the video interesting but I don't recommend you to replicate this high voltage generator, because the transformer is terrible, in few uses this circuit would be useless because when an arc is formed, and broken, the transformer shorts. if you have a real transformer (like some taken from electrical requettes) it might work, but it also lacked a crucial piece of information which is the working voltage, and since this circuit was designed for an electric igniter, the amperage that the circuit requires would be convenient. .
