In my first musical analysis video, I go in-depth with the song Duet (or "Final Duet" as the fans endearingly call it) from indie horror RPG, Omori, and try to explain what makes this piece tick. How it was made to sound melancholy and sad, and the steps I took to try to make an even sadder version of my own.

This was so unbelievably cool. I remember so many feelings of when I heard this gor the first time, transforming even the music of trailers and the title theme. I am so happy that you made it your own, because art means different things to different people. Not sure if I'd say it's sadder than the original, but as a pianist myself, I might be a little bit biased :P I do really like what you did with the guitar, though.
I absolutely love the breakdown and analysis, I really enjoy hearing about your thought process throughout the arrangement! Moreover, I think it's great that the core of the song was kept (piano chords + arpeggios -> guitar, piano + violin melody), and the things you added were really meant to lift that core up. Great arrangement, for sure!

After listening to your cover, I'll be honest, I didn't find it very sad at all. If anything, the emotion it conveyed to me made it sound... hopeful. The acoustic guitar replacing the piano created a sense of calmness, without the lack of resolution. Spoilers follow, for the love of God do not read this if you haven't completed the game:

I feel this is something Sunny would do as an adult. Recording the individual instruments and composing the melody he would have loved to play with Mari all those years ago, giving himself closure, for good, and forgiving himself, while also making sure this music gets spread far and wide to commemorate the love he had for his sister. Replacing the piano with a guitar while also maintaining the same melody would be akin to letting the past go, and increasing the violins played in the song would make its presence more assertive, unlike what we hear in game, where the violin is shaky and uncontrolled in the final melody and outright absent in the title screen theme, symbolizing a finally found stability.
Maybe not hopeful exactly, but wistful, or nostalgic. Looking back at those memories fondly, now that they're finally in the past. The classical piano to me is a very timeless, almost immortal instrument; there's sort of an implicit layer of formality that comes with operating such a revered machine. The guitar meanwhile feels much more personal and contemporary; with direct contact between you and the entire instrument, your hands will really tell the guitar what you're feeling in the moment. The guitar's strings are your strings.

This is amazing, you definitely should do more stuff like this... Honestly for me I think the context and the fact that you have to play and get to know the game for hours before you hear the song in the game makes even more emotional for omori fans, makes it so much more meaningful and allows it to hit like a truck.

I really enjoyed the breakdown of the song. It was so interesting as someone who’s learning about music. While I think this arrangement of the song is a sadder standalone piece, having such a deep connection to the game that words cannot exactly state makes the original version still more emotional for me. There’s still so much skill and effort put into this piece, however, that I just have to commend you for it. Wonderful job. ❤

I could see Basil playing the guitar with Sunny together, as they both accept their grief and move on together.
I liked the cover but it kinda took away the emotions for me
I think its just my musical taste but I feel like leaving a piece that is simple and easy to understand is what I feel is the most impactful. But the in depth feeling of musical emotion was great in your piece and I love it
When I think about music I just think about what their trying to convey, create an image in my mind. I just feel with the more instruments you put in a piece the more impactful things are and the less instruments in a piece like a simple violin and piano the more emotional things are because of how simple yet beautiful it is.

This song also shares some symbolism here. The added instruments symbolically being Sunny and his friends finishing Mari’s song, Trying to keep her legacy alive. That is the true reason why this is sad
Exactly what i think. It’s not really instruments that make it melancholic or simply sad - but the story behind it. I’m sure that song represents their lifes, or at least what i think it is. But i like author’s vision tho

In my opinion the saddest part of Final Duet is connected with Omori's story

Final Duet starts with a Piano (Mari). Some time after that a Violin joins the Piano (Sunny's birth). But near the end the Piano fades away (Mari's death).
THINGS LEFT HANGING, YOU SAY?
Oh no- MARI-!
Surely it sounds amazing and you totally did a great job, but in my Opinion it sounds less sad then the original one.
But let me explain why. :D
The Pinao is gone, which should be Mary. It think the original piece started with the piano, cuz Mary was born first and thats the reason why the violin starts a way later, because Sunny is the little Brother (so he just appearded later in her life). Then they continue together in perfect harmony till the piano stops (Mary dies) and the violin (Sunny) can´t continue without her and what happend.
Sooo thinking the piano and violin should be them, let the other extra instruments sounds like other people would be there too. x:
Maybe I just think like this, because I know the story of the game? If I wouldn´t know her and why the song is played there in certain parts, maybe I would prefer your creation as sadder. owö
Sometimes songs sounds like the Instruments are given to persons/livings.
Where you absolute can hear it is in the theme of Kindred from League of Legends. You totally know that the piano sounds like the lamb jumping and running around, while the cello (the wolf) accompany and sneaks around the piano.
So you can clearly hear them wandering and hunting together. o:
Thats why the "final duet" just with those 2 Instruments sounds a way sadder to me. x3

While listening to your Final Duet cover, it made me feel like…
Sunny has *truly* moved on, leaves every bad thing to the past and lives a better life, knowing that Mari is always on his side even if he can’t feel her. He knows that going back to look at the past would hurt him more like touching a scar repeatedly. Those scars needs to heal.
I feel like ur cover is also good to put at the end of the good ending instead of the “Good Morning” one.
