Welcome to Portugal , I'm a subscriber of your channel for some time and have learned a lot from your videos , I come back to Portugal last year after living 20 years in England , brought my British wife and two young boys and the plan was to home school them for the first 2 years , my wife has a master's so we thought that would be enough but when we approached the local school they refused on basis that my wife doesn't speak Portuguese , although might vary from region to region you out check the legalities of home schooling in Portugal ,I'm in distrito of Lisbon conselho of Lourinha , thank you for choosing Portugal , you and people like you that are taking on this abandoned forgotten places are making my country a better place , wish you and your family all the best , thank you for sharing your amazing journey
Again, loved the music and the "more show, less talk" version. I like when you explain things though, but sometimes it is good to get lost in the HAPPENING. :)
We really appreciate your good heart and thank you for sharing with us these excellent videos!
2:25 is your property a wash out from a flooded river?
Paradise is built on very hard work. Thanks for posting your video's.. absolutely love them.
I'm so happy and excited for you! This is exactly what I want to be doing in the next few years. I liked the video of you all working, but one suggestion if you're going to have long sections of video with no dialog would be to add closed captions describing what you're doing and the plants you've selected. Looking forward to your next update!
Hi Andy, thank you so much for your feedback. Good idea! I'll try to see what I can do to include this in the next videos. I wish you all the best on your own journey and you'll be able to follow your dreams!
I also dream to do but wish someone to reach with that distinction
You both and your team are VERY productive. Amazing the amount of effort you have to put into creating your own little garden of Eden!
More videos please. I can't wait to see how things are going.
Those are going to be one of the most language rich kids ever. You've raised your kids in france, live in portugal, but you still talk dutch to them. Chapeau
I can already tell I'm going to love this channel and what you're doing. The driveway turned out beautiful.
I'm happy to hear that!! Hope that it will continue to please you :)
Please name some of these machineries
Roadbuilding was a key step in developing the Roman Empire. I expect it will work for your farm too. Continued good luck. Glad to see trees started. When people ask what's the best time to plant a tree, the classic answer is 20 years ago. Starting with trees is a great initial step for planting. Roads and trees are essential infrastructure.
Thank you! Trees were one of our priorities when buying this land. We already planted quite some of them, but I think we're going to keep adding to the diversity every single year;)
Dang! You guys did such a great job! I’m excited to see your progress!!!
Thank you! :)
Appreciate ur efforts plans & actions which bore fruits of ur labor in a new successful homestead and farm abundant w fruits vegetables and animals. Admirable! Worthy of accolade and exemplary excellence!
E With orange blossoms you make the basis of expensive perfumes, a perfume of paradise ❤️❤️❤️❤️😆

Looks like your backhoe man is going to get some work on his schedule. This is going to be a great lifes adventure.
Brilliant 👏 hard work pays 👏 excellent 👌
Adding some voice over to explain the decision process and the steps you're taking would make these videos so much more enjoyable! Love watching the build.
indeed! why are you adding straw?
@@Ruunerwold I think it serves the same purpose as mulch with having to water it less due to the fact that it may keep moisture in the soil for longer periods of time
@@Ruunerwold mulch, moisture retention, weed suppression

If you still have the bobcat you found place large boulders around the trees as thermal mass for winter freezing protection.

Paradise in making
I know it's going to look amazing and I can't wait to see. Your beautiful vegetable garden inspired me to start my own garden, not any close to yours but I started my own. Greetings from Uganda
I am starting my own as well in America, I think we're all going to learn a lot and create something beautiful on our respective continents!
Your backhoe operator was such a pro! it’s always fun to watch somebody who has those kinds of skills that makes the machine look like an extension of his hand. Your new driveway looks incredible. Progress!!! 🙌
He was indeed! Thanks!!
Also luckily, he wasn't the grumpy type of guy ;)
wonderful! keep going!
Thanks!
Inspirational!
I am sooooo jealous of you guys
Good channel.
Keep going on Sir!
You and your wife are amazing. Boa sorte!

Portugal looks so much like San Diego!
Great project :) I love the happy face of the bobcat operator :D
😂Same here!!
Awesome. 👍👍
Thank you!
Guys, I´m genuily happy for you, but next time:
1. Loosen the roots before planting - that enables them to spread out and grow in all directions (otherwise the roots might be stuck in the same form they used to grow in the container and it could take them years to grow into the surrounding soil - during that time you have to water heavily, as the plant only has a very limited space for its roots and therefore area to get water from...).
2. Some of the holes were rather small - in that kind of conditions (dry, hard, likely not very nutritious soil) might be better to dig a larger hole for the purpose of loosening the substrate and making it easier for the roots to penetrate. Also, I´d certainly add some more compost/rotten manure and mix it with the surronding soil, as these plants (judging by their looks) spent their whole life in a perfect environment. It seems like a lot of fuss, but trust me, it pays off - once you create more favourable conditions at the start you get more robust and healthier plants later.
Wishing the best of luck to you! Jan

Het hebben van een self sufficient piece of heaven in this world 🌎 heel veel succes en sterkte, maar jullie gaan dit zeker rocken 💪🏻
Wow Good job love the videos
We would love to do something like this but land in Australia is very expensive.
You should start an aquaponics farm and use that water wen you do water changes to water your trees and gardens
well done sir I am from India
Didn’t see that apart from the introduction video there’s already an abundance of videos on here. Well, two more, but anyways: made my Saturday!
put bees, you will have propolis, honey, wax and you will pollinate the oranges and the vegetable garden, you have to create continuous irrigation, citrus fruits love water
its like a clip from GOLD RUSH TV... thats some site
It is a really pretty site!
@@TheDutchFarmer I hope you didn't take my comment the wrong way your site if fabulous and I envy you guy's 👍👍
I love all your videos! Sorry to ask this question,I hope it’s not rude. How much do you have to save to be able to do a project like this? Do you have an income source other than your savings? I always dream of doing something like these, but I’m too old to start now. Nevertheless, it’s a learning experience and we can always get inspiration to make improvements in our place. Please keep documenting your progress. You and your beautiful family are such a good example and inspiration! May God continue blessing you all.
I'm pleased to have found your channel. We are lucky enough to have a slightly smaller parcel of land, 1.7 hectares, in Australia. We have had it for about 5 years and I love it beyond words. Still no house but we are working on it! I suspect (but do not know) that your climate there might be similar to ours and so I look forward to seeing what you plant and how you manage new trees. At our place we experience quite cold autumn/winter, and very hot and dry summers. Bushfire risk is ever present. Typical AVG rainfall is about 560ml per year, but it is enough if we plan and manage the land well. So, in that regard, I'll be on the look out for tips from you! We have no poultry yet but a few sheep and they are such a great addition to our place (although they've eaten their fair share of our newly planted trees!!!). Stay well.
I heard of a legend about Chinese ancient practice of traveling beggars (in the tradition of Johnny Appleseed) who plants seeds or saplings of fruits , any edibles along well traveled path . Should they or anybody happen along that path , they can forage for food sparing them of hunger. So all over China edible forest abound . Some rural folks altruistically commit to planting randomly fruiting trees and bamboos beneficial to both humans and animals. They had been thru severe hunger and famine during Mao Tse Dong's time .
Your edible forest will benefit all creatures attracting flora and fauna which helps to propagate vegetations.
watch the Sicilian videos on citrus fruits, bergamot plant and lemon too
Insparative
Thank sir
happy ducks
Hey i like your videos alot! i am also planning to plant trees in portugal this winter. I am still trying to figure out which support trees to plant, as most of the nitrogen fixing, fast growing trees are considered invasive.
If it helps put, it's a lady called Ellen White, who has a method to plant fruit trees check it out if you want!
I also want to do the same but, by the road there are paddy fields and the fruit tree may consume the nutrients of the paddy and the owner might get on me for doing that. I choose Mango,Jackfruit,Guava,Local Berry,Lichi,Lotkon.
It,s suspense movie waiting for next part
Careful with the mulch there’s a lot of fires in the west
Unfortunately it's one of the very few resources we can find locally, but we've made sure to clear as much as possible around our Zone 1 area.
Be careful with all that dry straw on the land. With the high temperatures you have there, it can all go into flames is a second :(
