Hey y'all! Hope you enjoyed watching the process of our first major project on our new homestead. Next week we'll be showing you the entire process of how we build a brand new pond and introduce Muscovy ducks to it. Hope to see you there!

Welcome to Portugal , I'm a subscriber of your channel for some time and have learned a lot from your videos , I come back to Portugal last year after living 20 years in England , brought my British wife and two young boys and the plan was to home school them for the first 2 years , my wife has a master's so we thought that would be enough but when we approached the local school they refused on basis that my wife doesn't speak Portuguese , although might vary from region to region you out check the legalities of home schooling in Portugal ,I'm in distrito of Lisbon conselho of Lourinha , thank you for choosing Portugal , you and people like you that are taking on this abandoned forgotten places are making my country a better place , wish you and your family all the best , thank you for sharing your amazing journey

I'm so happy and excited for you! This is exactly what I want to be doing in the next few years. I liked the video of you all working, but one suggestion if you're going to have long sections of video with no dialog would be to add closed captions describing what you're doing and the plants you've selected. Looking forward to your next update!

Roadbuilding was a key step in developing the Roman Empire. I expect it will work for your farm too. Continued good luck. Glad to see trees started. When people ask what's the best time to plant a tree, the classic answer is 20 years ago. Starting with trees is a great initial step for planting. Roads and trees are essential infrastructure.

Guys, I´m genuily happy for you, but next time:
    1. Loosen the roots before planting - that enables them to spread out and grow in all directions (otherwise the roots might be stuck in the same form they used to grow in the container and it could take them years to grow into the surrounding soil - during that time you have to water heavily, as the plant only has a very limited space for its roots and therefore area to get water from...).
    2. Some of the holes were rather small - in that kind of conditions (dry, hard, likely not very nutritious soil) might be better to dig a larger hole for the purpose of loosening the substrate and making it easier for the roots to penetrate. Also, I´d certainly add some more compost/rotten manure and mix it with the surronding soil, as these plants (judging by their looks) spent their whole life in a perfect environment. It seems like a lot of fuss, but trust me, it pays off - once you create more favourable conditions at the start you get more robust and healthier plants later.
Wishing the best of luck to you! Jan

I'm pleased to have found your channel. We are lucky enough to have a slightly smaller parcel of land, 1.7 hectares, in Australia. We have had it for about 5 years and I love it beyond words. Still no house but we are working on it! I suspect (but do not know) that your climate there might be similar to ours and so I look forward to seeing what you plant and how you manage new trees. At our place we experience quite cold autumn/winter, and very hot and dry summers. Bushfire risk is ever present. Typical AVG rainfall is about 560ml per year, but it is enough if we plan and manage the land well. So, in that regard, I'll be on the look out for tips from you! We have no poultry yet but a few sheep and they are such a great addition to our place (although they've eaten their fair share of our newly planted trees!!!). Stay well.

I heard of a legend about Chinese ancient practice of traveling beggars (in the tradition of Johnny Appleseed) who plants seeds or saplings of fruits , any edibles along well traveled path . Should they or anybody happen along that path , they can forage for food sparing them of hunger. So all over China edible forest abound . Some rural folks altruistically commit to planting randomly fruiting trees and bamboos beneficial to both humans and animals. They had been thru severe hunger and famine during Mao Tse Dong's time .
Your edible forest will benefit all creatures attracting flora and fauna which helps to propagate vegetations.
