Thanks for passing by and hope you've enjoyed watching this project unfold! It's such a pleasure to share this here with you. We've been dreaming of starting a food forest for so long and I can't believe we've finally planted the beginning of hopefully something incredibly abundant. Will definitely do update videos on how the food forest will grow overtime!! Want to start growing your own food? In my free guide I go over 6 steps to help you go from beginner gardener to year-round abundance. Download here: www.rootsreconnected.com/
Amazing project! I really like it! Please, tell us what is you plan of this project? What way you plan to have income from it?
Hi @thedutchfarmer thanks so much for sharing the journey. I've signed up to your course and sent several emails. I know you've got your hands full but would appreciate a quick reply when time allows. Many thanks and all the best, Alicia.
Really Thankful to you for sharing your experiences with us... Will always be grateful to you for your teachings... Also, I would love to see a full fledged video on every aspect of the project..like how you came up with the pond..what all things you kept in mind, it's measurements, direction; swales earthworks, again what all you had to study before actually hitting the site.
This work is inspiring! Keep on
I am following your work from day one and keep updated myself.
This is probably the best video I've seen on how to properly construct, cover and plant swales...all with no words! Amazing :)
Hi Brian, thank you so much for the kind words! Highly appreciated!
Totally agreed. I am right in the middle of wanting to do this and this video help tremendously. THANK YOU.
Amazing! As a Portuguese guy, it's wonderful to see someone value our land! You're living my dream man! Good luck to you and your wonderful family! :) hope someday we are "neighbors"
Hey we did something very similar about nine years ago in Galicia (just North of Portugal), we also have dry summers but still get more rainfall than Portugal. Still, we found that in these mediterranean climates, we had much better success planting trees directly in the swales, much less watering to establish them this way. We never had waterlogging problems with the trees, especially on a slope. When you add organic material swales get very absorbent and suck the water down really well, unless there is really hard clay. Anyway we have some really nice drone shots of what this type of project looks like when it is mature on our channel if anyone wants to see!
Of course we want to see it
Lot of Love and Regards from an Indian Farmer. I am thrilled to see how you guys transformed that barren land into a Food Forest. Nature may be harsh some times. But it sure provides abundantly to those who toil on it with good intentions....God Bless
It makes me very emotional to see how hard some people will work to achieve their goals. Love it. Think it’s called good honest toil. 😘😘
This is so helpful to see the process; it would be fantastic to have some commentary for extra detail :)
I second this; just found the Dutch farmer's videos and I'm loving the content, I hope they will add more commentary as obviously they have a lot of knowledge :)
Totally agree
yes I agree it's great to watch. I don't understand some of the things you are doing though. Commenting with a few lines sometimes could be enough for non farmers to understand.
Yes - way less music and more verbal details.
Commentary important since getting lost on way
Glade you were able to get these in place and infiltrate the winter rains. Amazing what you as a trained and experienced Permaculture designer could envision lay out and construct. This is the way forward.
It‘s fantastic what you have already accomplished! Simply wonderful! Looking forward to seeing your food forest grow.
Thank you! Can't wait to see the system evolve!!
Everyone in the world needs this RIGHT NOW. Just do it. Its all going to be ok if we all do exactly this. 🙏❤️
First time watching. So good to see such harsh land be developed from scratch...enjoyed all your new projects videos and now avid fan from Western Australia .. same type of soils and climate. Lot to learn avidly watching and learning new skills thank you for sharing
The swales will bring new life. Best way to hydrate your land.
I am in love with this type of life ❤. Can't wait for my day to come living off the grid and being one with nature 🙏🏾✌🏾
The little excavator sure has had a work-out. I am looking forward to seeing those plants mature and produce.
Hi Rob, can't wait to see them grow into maturity! The excavator ran into quite a few challenges with the bedrock being so incredibly low on the ridge!
@@TheDutchFarmer I wonder did you buy the machinery or is it relatively easy to hire a machine? I wouldn’t mind renting a machine periodically to get some big tasks done on the land
@@kohtime ..My guess is that the guy (with the machine) is hired. You can let them come for an afternoon, for a swimming pool as an example.
Or for a few full days, in this case.
You can also in this area hire people, local farmers, for a day with big tractors if needed. So you don't have to buy all the big machines yourself.
Your project is truly inspiring. I recently left South Africa to be with my now wife and we bough a small holding together in France. Although our land is a lot smaller than yours we also have a dream to create an abundant food source from it. We have zero experience but we see and learn a lot by watching your videos. It would be so great to get some advice from you.
Check out Make. Do. Grow. They have 2 years of experience transforming some land in Portugal.
Nice work.
Nature seemed to respond with the rain right on time.
Frank de Digger! Happiest man on the planet!
The image of a man is the dream of many - the center of abundance of this place, very inspiring videos.
awesome video! Would love some more talking/explaining though, not sure what's happening all the time, what trees are you planting, lay-out of the swales etc. But I amagine you're to busy to do all the editing and also doing all the work.
Excellent work, my friend, I congratulate you with all my heart, a great job for the planet, for Portugal and for the region where you are... plant trees, shrubs and native plants, so you are creating an ecosystem with plants and trees from the region, a strong hug God bless you
This is the only channel I have clicked the bell icon for. So glad to be watching this journey.
Hey Jason, thanks a lot. Appreciate it!!
It’s so nice to see you with your own land. Looks like an amazing spot for your family, I’m happy for you.
Moreno...you are a man of vision and determination. It's fun watching your dream unfold with you and I'm excited to see updates as your homestead and food forest continue to grow. Keep up the good work and stay the course...your hard work will pay off for you and your family.
Soo excited to see this going forward! Greetings from Oz
1:22 - This is the tool I have been needing; would love to learn more about it!
I would love to hear about this as well. What is the triangle with pointed ends and a rock hanging fromt he string.
@@duanepaquin1665 I believe he is using it to create a line on contour for the swale. It is a clever way of finding a level point. The rock will settle to a plumb line if the points are level. It appears to have been used historically. I found more on it by searching 'Ancient Egypt Level and Square'. But this is the only place I have seen it used for staking out a swale, clever!
whenever it rains there i am so happy. if your intensions are genuine whole universe will support. example all of us are praying good for you.
It's thrilling to be able to accomplish one's dream. I'm excited to watch this and I hope to see more videos of how this project unfolds. Your videos have been very inspirational for me. keep up the good work.
I’m enthralled in your creativity and design! So beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
I am so amazed at how much you have accomplished in so little time.
Awesome work. All this is going to look awesome after couple of years.
Thank you! Hope that it will be incredibly abundant!
@@TheDutchFarmer are you getting ready for the worst depression in world history
@@Johnrider1234 why that ?
Make that 5 to 10 years.
The silence speaks volumes. Beautifully shot video.
Hello Moreno, I am following since 3 years and I am very happy for your new project and how you are developing it.
I live in Turkey since 2019 and after renting a small land and practice Organic Agriculture, now we are looking for a land to do something similar you are doing.
The idea about how to make a leveled rou / canal is great 👍
Thanks for sharing.
Keep doing more often.
Amazing! Looks like you planned this out well in advance. Looks easy and spontaneous on video but you must have done a lot of observation on the land for many weeks before. Looking like a food forest is on its way.
Just watching this and listening to nature at it's best is quite relaxing.
Can’t wait to see what this looks like in 5-10 years
UA-cam served me this and I’m glad it did, watched your videos ages ago seeing you spraying the veg in bathtub made me recognise, wishing you all the best
So inspiring Moreno!!!! I didn’t know you moved to Portugal with this wonderful project, that’s amazing. I wish I can do the same in my family land in Italy soon 🤞🤞🤞
interesting to see a bottle-brush (9:36) growing on the other side of the world. Loving the channel.
Beautiful landscape design! Hope all the family is adapting to the new life! Can you make a update of how is all behaving in the 1st spring!
We have watched a number of homesteaders trying to make a go of things in Portugal. You seem to be the most knowledgeable and organized person in this group. Obviously you market gardening experience has given you a good grounding. Your “man” with the mini excavator is a wonderful worker and a very fortunate find. He is the first non homesteader from that country that seems to have real work ethic. Congratulations and please keep sharing your activities.
Amazing work, so elegantly simple! And the joy of a swale filling up, zero water movement. Doggie has a play-pond!
You are such an inspiration to us all thank you for sharing with us your journey 😊🇬🇧
amazing work ! thank you for sharing ! god bless you
Nice job on the swales! I think you must be the most methodical UA-camr out there and cinematography is second to none! 😎👍
I'm excited to follow your journey as I've been dreaming of something similar for quite some time. Looking forward to see the principles in action and learning with you along the way. It will be challenging but no doubt you can do it! I wish you and your family all the best!
What a great, no BS video! 🎉❤
Amazing love to conserve the precious soil.
FANTASTIC work - well done and CONGRATULATIONS 🎉👏🏻🙏🏻❤️🙋🏻♀️🇦🇺
4:15 I was like "please I hope he drops some compost and mulch" I was not disappointed :)
The healing in practice.
Thank you for the educational sharing.
Shared on Twitter.
I love your vision on that barren land
It's so nice to see a vision coming to life..all the varieties for abundance
It just looks AMAZING!
These series are truly inspiring. You're channel is still so undervalued. Keep it going! 💯
Amazing stuff. May the weather gods be with you.
How cool! That is so nice! Please keep us updated with new videos! Would love to see the progress!!!
Could you please narrate this video, explaining what you are doing and the tools/methods you use? I would love to learn more! I am very interested!!!!
thanks for sharing!! about to move to Portugal soon with my family myself, i learn so much from you.. thank you.
Looks great wonderful job love it will be wonderful once fully established
Fascinating to watch. Trees are key components and often the small ones are easiest to get established. I love your swales because you natural resources, unlike agribusiness in the US where everything is designed for the use of large equipment. You are developing biodiversity which reduces the need for pesticides. I love observing your progess.
thank you for sharing this😀
Happy to see your videos again. Keep going.
Wonderful Transformation of your farm and your thought. Wish you all the best for this journey
Wow, really great! God bless you!
Wish i was young again. I would definitely do this. Good on you. Keep posting videos
An Easy video, just chillin' while watching how you plant and they grow.
How impressive to see a dream become reality! Following you with pleasure and can't wait to learn more about the process of land regeneration! All the best from Bulgaria!
Love the style of commentary
I am excited to see these developments.
Beautifully set in motion... keep it up, keeps us watching. As simple as it's true✨
From a desert to an oasis, beautiful.
We love the systems you've implemented to maximize your land. Looking forward to evolution:)
Cheers from Victoria Canada
So so beautiful,Nature at its best and hands willing to work.Is there anything better?
Its very nice to see such a beautiful video
looking forward to see your wonderful food forest.. its gonna be amazing 🤤🤤
So excited for this new adventure of yours. Wish the video way longer as I enjoyed it so much 😁
Very inspiring , has always, thank you for sharing 😊
Your doing amazing work sharing your process and how you started, it helps us learn how to begin. Thank you, hope to visit your project in Portugal in the Future, i was just there a month ago stayed in Sintra and such a beautiful place, peaceful and beautiful friendly people.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDD CHECJUTTTTT
Looks great
Everything looks awesome, love the dog!
Wonderful my friend. Just wonderful. I believe we all have to grow our own food no matter how large or small the land is or even the flower pot we have. I have come up with a slogan that say, “Eat what you grow. Grow where you live.”
БОГ да ви дари здраве и дълък живот.
I love your new place
good to see it rained after you planted.
right on que
Exactly! Right on time!
I am fascinated by these beautiful rocks on your property, they look like sacred rocks to me, like a "Kraftort" in german (don't know the right english word), can you feel anything there? I wonder how they came to be there... just beautiful!
And I love your project, please show more about the tree varieties you planted and how they develop.
They are incredible indeed. Provides with a lot of microclimates and opportunities. Check the description box for some of the varieties we planted. In the near future I'll definitely do an update video where I'll explain how we built it, what we planted, why etc. Thanks for watching!
The granites in Portugal were very much shaped by the last Ice Age, in the geology time scale not that long ago. With ice in the rock cracks they break in multiple pieces that are then eroded by wind, making those rounded shapes!
Wow. Good Luck.
Thanks for sharing your story! Always enjoy watching your kanaal ;)
Thank you Floris!
I wish you so many good things! This is inspiring!
Wow Portugal landscape and soil looks exactly like West Texas!
Your dog is living his/her best life lol Love what you do, really inspiring :)
I love these sort of chill videos. Watching before bed tonight 💤 🛌
Excelente trabajo, alguien pensando con la cabeza.
Eso es ayudarse ayudando a los demás.
Great progress you living the dream man very cool!
Incredibly beautiful. My dream! 😍 You also inspired me to start this year my own market garden on rented land here in the UK. In a few years I hope to purchase my own permaculture property
nice one thanks.
LOVELY VIDEO!!!
I love your project, I've been looking for land for a long time and it's very difficult. I would love to have more information on costs and preparation about swales and ponds.
Thank so much!
Living the dream! Can’t wait for this to become more lush, great video. Alle geluk vanuit nederland 😀
i love it
Very nice to see the progress, would be nice to have a little more info on what and why you are doing things this way.
