Was an unexpected warm week last week with warm weather blowing in from Africa. We had to quickly install a basic irrigation system to ensure we could water our trees quickly and efficiently. This system is NOT done. Check the description box for more information. Want to start growing your own food? In my free guide I go over 6 steps to help you go from beginner gardener to year-round abundance. Download here: www.rootsreconnected.com/
Beyond fantastic, thank you! Can't wait for the 6 months round up video.
You're doing a fantastic job. Thanks so much for doing these videos for us in between all that hard work you do. It's appreciated. Btw... seriously, of all the gardening channels I watch, aside from Charles Dowding, yours is the only videos I really look forward to.... less chat, which is refreshing.
Please do!
So happy to follow your new journey! As I try to embark on a similar "mission", would you care to share some data about the pump, the length of the line used, etc...? I am struggling with the calculations and using the right stuff for my needs and your project would be the best source I think. Many thanks, stay safe!
It's very interesting. Could you explain more about what water you use? Do you use bore water?
Try to cover as much Pipe as possible, our Portuguese sun destroys those pipes in a couple of years if exposed
Regarding that machine at 3:40, please note that in days of very high fire risk it's forbidden by law in Portugal to have machines running without some safety attachments, like retention of sparks or similar, and fire extinguishers always ready. The risk is real. You are obviously a very knowledgeable professional but you come from a colder and more humid climate, so you may not be accostumed yet with our laws and risks here. There are many fires that start precisely on machines like those left operating without supervision or safety accessories.
mas achas que esta malta pensa nisso sequer? Até aposto que não têm licenças para nada.
Don't worry we put that in open for video purpose
that's just a portable generator set, it will not blow up
@@wasab1tch that's not the risk at stake here.
I’m in absolute awe of what you do.
I wish nothing but the best life for you.
If you were my son I would be the proudest parent alive. 🥕🌻❤️
It would be highly valuable to estimate first year investments needed besides the land cost. Like to setup irrigation, plants cost, make swales etc etc
That would all be heavily dependent on the land size, location, and other variables such as the climate of the location, wildlife pressure, and how much plants & seeds cost in your country/currency
We had around $40k and we were thrifty and ran out in 18 months. Every place has different costs of course.
I’ve currently gone back to work. Should be better set up this time. Plan to have 2-3 Airb&b by Xmas, this should create ample income. Also we are freehold, so it’s not easy for most people.
Some of our major costs were
A Well ( unlimited water) $6k
Water storage and irrigation set up about $2k . We already had a working pump.
Animal stock 2 milking cows with calves 4.4K , 15 sheep
$1500 . Pigs ducks chickens geese around $1k .
Fruit trees only afford $1500.
Food , power etc took care of most of the rest. Of course bought a 100 small items, usually second hand. Pruned people’s grapes for free and took their cuttings and created a Vineyard for almost nothing. But as thrifty as we are, money just burnt up.
We now have unlimited meat, and a lot of vegetables and fruit.
Just put an off grid solar system ( the cheapest ever) including batteries for under $3k.
Hopefully this gives a little insight, but there’s so many variables.
Fencing, as we couldn’t put stock on our 33 acres until complete. About $2k
@@chessman483Wow!! I’m so envy of what you’ve done. Very interesting information. May I ask you where do you do all that? It’s amazing!! It’s so wonderful to be close to nature!! I find myself spending hours in garden the without even thinking about it and never get bored!! 👍👏😃
@@MsCmsh The biggest time killer is annuals, vegetables etc. I deliberately focus on things that produce for years.
Fruit trees , Vines, and animals give such an amazing excess. With most vegetables I find to much weeding , watering , replanting etc. Now almost two years in our place is getting exciting.
Looks like you knew exactly what you were doing here so some great work. This seems to be the most important part of the whole project, along with the water retention infrastructure.
Hi. I've bought a small farm with 2 friends and to learn some more on agriculture, no dig sistems and more we've watched all your videos a long time ago. It was a good surprise to see a new video done days ago and a better surprise to realize that you chose our country to come and live and raise your children. We welcome you, wish you all the luck and be waiting for the next updates. This one was funny because we saw so much similarities to our journey so far. Lol...
This guy's are amazing. From Victorville California.
Very impressive! I am jealous!
How reliant on plastic we are!
It would be really cool some voice over, explaining what you`re doing and giving us some facts and lessons. Not that we don`t get it from the video but would be a nice addiction.
Portugal its a good place to stay 🙂
I’m becoming more and more convinced that you must be related to Superman - can’t believe how much you have done in such a short time! AND filmed / produced content! I was wondering about water, when I first saw the land… do you also need to worry about fires in your area?
This place has no choice but to become a paradise under your well qualified hands and stewardship
This will be the best garden ever in Portugal. I’m excited to see all your hard work with water management work out.
Looks great!!
Small tip: remember to first turn the generator on and then, turn the switch, in this way you will protect your electrical system 😉
I love your videos with voiceovers where you are explaining how and why you're doing things, instead of just the process.
I appreciate that both are beneficial for your viewers though.
Keep up the cool content.
This is very nice 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿💯
This guy works hard like a monster. Pretty impressive stuff.
I like what you do. Just some good advice. The thread tape must be wound clockwise on a right hand screw thread. It will unwind when you tighten the nut.😊
You have such a beautiful project, I wish you would talk about alle the steps you do. Unfortunately it's a bit boring to watch with just the music 😴 I wish you all the best guys. Good luck in Portugal ❤️
Bonjour
Now that your pipes are installed this might be of help……
Buy a few cans of fluorescent pink spray paint and spray all of your pipes with it. I just put a piece of cardboard underneath it and kept moving it along. Makes it really easy to see where that are at a glance. Especially if there is machinery being used so that they don’t get run over and broken.. also much easier to see through long grass etc.
I di all of the tool handles as well so that they never get lost . It’s worked really well and tools I have had for more than 25 years still have remnants of their first spray of pink.
All the best for your future.
Julie
Man man,wat een heerlijke informatieve video,je bent geweldig❤
Moreno...it was exciting to see your reaction of the irrigation system working after installing it! You've made great progress and it's going to be fun to watch how all of the trees/plants respond to being watered on a regular basis. Keep up the great work on your property.
Dude 👍🙌✌️🤟💪👌 greetings from 🇨🇺
Great job man.
That dog is always closo to you .....well deserved kiss 😊
In response to the email you sent out to everyone on June 28th, I'd love to see homesteading, and gardening and all of it! I enjoy watching your informative content 👏🙂
Amazing you installed an entire water system on an acreage including irrigation in only12 minutes! Lol Very small detail , the Teflon tape is generally installed by wrapping it in the other direction, ; )
Amaizing work. No talk, no bs, just amaizing work. Inspiring.
Looks great. Can't wait for the 6 month follow-up.
Been following you since inception. Would love to visit your new place. ❤from India
Let the work do the talking!👌🏾 All the best!
you are the man!!! best chanel on UA-cam
Awesome, I just put my off grid irradiation in, still finishing but lots of water so I’m happy!
Bless you. Enjoying it. ...In the sun those 1000li cubes go green inside: could recommend light-excluding cover. Best wishes) - new zealand.
I know you mentioned in your trailer that you couldn't find a bigger digger, but I think that little guy you have is just perfect for something of your scale. It takes longer but it doesn't cause as much collateral destruction. It is also much easier to service and in my cases cheaper to service. It's realistic to be able to store it inside as well. Sorry for the rant. I just love that little guy and how hard he is working for you.
Brilliant 👌
Excellent work! What a good feeling it must have been to finally have that water flow out of the hydrant.
Great job. It's a very difficult terrain though. Good luck
It's amazing and great job...well done..keep up the good work share more video..God bless
Lovely system! A nice future addition would be to put a large tank up high on your plot, so you can fill it with solar during the day and have gravity fed irrigation at any time you need it.
Hard working people..wish to live like that someday if possible
You have accomplished a significant amount of work. Since I garden in Texas, US, I understand the importance of water, especially during brutal heat. Congratulations on what you have done and good luck on future projects
Hey…thank you so Milch for your inspiring Videos. They are Reality helplfull to us. .We bought a Farm Not for from you in Central Portugal and are about to start Building a greenhouse, a water irrigation System and make Garden beds etc. I would love to know where you have purchased the green house and the water irrigation system as well as where you have got your compost from. It would be really helpful for us to get started here. Thanks for your response and ones again thank you so much for the great work you are doing in sharing your experience here with us.
Wow, you are very knowlegable...great work.
Brother you need to make a fire suppression system to guard against woodland and brush fires,
Some perimeter tripod sprinklers and a utv/small truck with 1000 gallons and pump with generator and hose to hot shot some fires as well, a humidity meter to keep an eye on things too
Your videos always give me peace of mind🙌
It is not impossible for you to succeed in your farm because you have all the means and farm equipment to help you plus your determination and prayers too. Good luck on your journey. New subscriber from the Phillippines. stay safe and healthy with your family.
Water is very important to revive the barren land
Water is life!
Going from a country to another, what a great journey! The best of luck for your project and all your endeavors.

You are doing great job man 👍
Great job! It's amazing what you've accomplished in such a short time bravo!
Abrazo
Oke Dutch farmer, I stumbled upon your video’s, did’nt understand where a Dutch farmer finds wasteland, almost desert. Of course you emigrated, but to which country? ( did I miss the start with some info?)
Please, what is your goal? I follow a lot of very admirable projects, turning desert into forests (trees for shade, under which vegetables and fruits). No chemicals are used. Respect for nature and wildlife.
Are you one of them?
Good luck, you are a hard worker, that’s for sure.
We're in Portugal. Our goal is to restore this property into an abundant homestead. Food forests, no chemicals, and indeed, we work with nature, not against it. Thank you!
Hello, thanks for sharing this video! I love your channel, I will support you along the way! Always believe in yourself and keep doing what you love. good luck ! 🌺🌹🌼
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing your journey. Blessings from California.
Really enjoy your videos & the music perfectly matched. We are hooked. Great work
congratulations Moreno, such an inspiring video and also very helpful, thanks!
Well done love your work mate!
"i should buy a bobcat" me, after every video. keep up thumbs up
Nice sharing
Great work!
Great job. Forest fires beware damage to pipes.
Precious video. I was looking for a video just like this one in order to get inspiration on mounting a similar irrigation system like yours.
Greetings from the Algarve. Obrigado.
This is so awesome and inspiring! Could you provide an itemized list of all that you used for this work and where they can be bought? I am in the US, but I may need to set up a running water and irrigation system in the future. Thank you! Keep up the amazing work and I am keeping you and your family in my prayers.
We thoroughly enjoy your videos :)
Very nice video.
amazing what you achieve,utmost respect
Exited to see what it looks like in 1 year.
WELL DONE ITS A GOOD JOB. LOVE IT💕🧡⚘

M'encanta com va agafant forma tot! Ànims i molta força!! 😍💪
Brilliant ❤👍👌
Can't wait for Saturdays to come
Hello
i suggest to change the drip irrigation to small sprinker for each tree, with sprinker water will cover more curface and the roots will spread better. correct me if i am wronge, greetings from thailand.
Bravo, what work!
Great this is how i began my farm it is a year ago i harvest every year nearly 15000$
Fantastico!
tidak sabar menunggu video selanjutnya
I'm interesting to work with you on designing of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems thanks
Hello Moreno
Thank you for the update, and the awesome, honest hard work you've done so far. I mentioned that it shall be a walk in the park. I have a question though; doesn't the Kohler water pump need priming, or it's the self-priming type?
Guess that answers my question. Best of luck. ✌🏻
Wish you had given us a narration on this video, rather disappointed that there was none. See you again in the next one.
Hey Moreno, I would like to make a request for short captions during the video as to what exactly your doing or maybe more of that sweet accent voice over, either way love the channel and I have learned so much. Thank you
Amazing.

Man,u r the best!!
informative video
Nice craft! Well designed and well executed. How about a wind-driven pump to lift water from the pond to the tanks instead petrol generator or solar panels? With 4-5 tanks linked together, you'll always have enough water to cross periods without wind.
I haven't slept since your last video! Wondering how you'd water all those trees!!
Your genius
Hi. Can you please explain the size of the land and the principals that you are working under. Please tell us the end objectives and then explain why you are doing things as you do them. What trees have you chosen to plant on the terraces and why.
Good luck by the way. Awesome videos.
i was thinking that you maybe could make an overflow connecter between the water containers at the top walls.
Hi there.....i think u should try the " mist catcher" or "cloud catcher"method to get water...
