I'm pretty new but had my first win with the silent running a poison deck. But corpse explosion is the only reason I won lol 😂 Question though, at what point should I stop adding cards to my deck? Is there a perfect deck size? 25-30?
There is no easy answer to that. There is no perfect deck size, any size deck can work as long as you can reliably get to things you need. It's more of a question of 1) does the card you want to add serve a function that is necessary/not already present in your deck? and 2) will this help me get to things that I need to get in play quickly?
I just discovered this game and I love your content. I know you've moved on from your comments, but kuddos for making content that is still relevant 2 years later.
I honestly think if you just removed watcher from the game and didn't change anything else, then silent would be the strongest character by a solid margin. Her hand control and defense can become insane late-game.
That's certainly an opinion, but not a popular one I'd say. She is widely regarded as the most difficult/least consistent/hardest to streak with. But hey, everyone's style is a bit different.
@@InaBeta It's hard to quantify for sure since every act's demands are different. I know most people say Silent has the hardest act 1 at high ascensions, and I do agree 100% with that. However in act 3 and 4 I tend to value draw and control very highly, and Silent has more access to that than everyone else does by design. So my experience usually is that _if I can get to the Heart_ it's a comparatively easy fight for her; whereas I'll often feel like I have a very strong Ironclad or Defect deck late in the game, and then just die to one or two bad draws. Having said all of that, I'm still learning new stuff about the game all the time, and I'm probably biased because the Silent is my favorite character. Most of my "best" A20H runs have been with her, but that's still a pretty small sample and those runs admittedly felt like quite high rolls to me.
Thank you for this, subscribed! Took me 15 tries on A8 The Silent before I finally broke down and searched for tips. Your video helped me realize how much I was doing wrong especially not going for card draws to cycle through my deck faster and Footwork for block help. Got some big help from Apotheosis and Bullet Time also. On to A9 now (after Defect and Watcher A8).
If you don’t mind me asking, why’d you stop uploading? I’ve just found this game and this channel, I’ve loved both, so I just thought I’d ask why you stopped.
I think her starting relic is the weakest amongst the cast of characters from STS. I usually swap the Snakeband at the start of a run. The best starting Whale option for her is the ''Choose of a rare card''. For only 99 gold, it makes the game much easier when you know your core synergy before the very first fight of the run.
I'm more of an Ironclad guy what makes playing The Silent challenging. With your explainations I (at last) made it through next ascension. Thank you a lot!
I've played about 400 hours of this game since getting it about two years ago and I'm still making cool new discoveries, probably one of my favorite games ever. Nice guide, I subscribed

@@InaBeta I'm happy to hear you're doing okay! I completely understand, I'm working on getting a degree in CyberSecurity at the moment so I'm having to put a lot of stuff on the back burner.
today i finished act 3 with her for the 1st time, i got lucky, as usually i run Shiv + Poison build and i got two relics that made it for me, on exhaus draw random card + playing power card making random card in hand cost 0
I just got lucky and kept getting the add 3 copies of one card. Kept adding Shivs x3 which meant 12 shivs a turn with shuriken scaling the damage every 3 shivs
it bothers me that people think that poison and shiv are the only strategies for silent when you can also do massive damage with deck cycling and playing the same offensive card or two a dozen times in a turn like eviscerate, slice or sneaky strike and if time eater is a concern just take either skewer or flechettes. Silent also has energy scaling that she can use with either card draw or skewer, poison and dex scaling aren't the only ones.
I've made the mistake of not accounting for something and taking damage I didn't need to often enough that it became second nature to just play the block regardless. It doesn't hurt to be extra sure in this game.
No, I don't unfortunately; I have moved on to other things at this point. We didn't have the opportunity to make these videos until like the very end of my time streaming. Thanks for understanding.
@@banban5568 lol actually I haven't touched it since I stopped streaming it. After almost 1000 hours with the game, I was pretty burnt. Haven't been able to post in a while, true, but I'll always have time to say THANKS and CONGRATS and that I'm SO HAPPY when people come away from these guides as a better Spire Slayer! A20 better get ready for you!
1.) I usually want to choose a rare card to take or a rare relic, mostly because I feel good cards make the most immediate impact on the first map. 2.) A Thousand Cuts is pretty fun with shivs, especially if you have after image and many other potential buffs to this strat. 3.) Instead of a class guide, or maybe in addition too, I would like to see guides on getting some of the achievements. Like, kill the transient before it fades, or gain 25 focus in one combat. Whats the best way to build decks that will accomplish these various challenges?
Getting something impactful going right away is essential for most runs and it also kind of sets the tone for the deck; let's you know what you'll take and won't take in coming floors for sure.
@@InaBeta hah right?! Also I've been playing this game for years and just discovered your videos 😂 they're great though! Biggest thing that helped me when I first started was realizing I should skip cards and that you can't start a run with a deck planned out, like your videos say "everything is situational" Thanks for the reply!
@@colinbrown4946 Yeah those are some of the first and hardest lessons I learned as well. I remember just dumpstering so many runs trying to "insist" on a block synergy deck with Chad while The Spire just said, "lolno".
Thank you for this, The Silent is my second favorite character and I'm looking forward to actually beating the 3rd boss and completing a run with her, I got a good deck but I happened to run into the Time Eater 😔 I'm sure this video will help me out, your basic tips video helped me get that far in that run by giving me an idea of how to optimize the deck by not taking a card every chance I got. What I really need a video for is Ironclad though, even though I've played just as much with him as I have Silent and Defect, I still have never ended up with a good deck for him. I always end up just barely hanging on for the entire run, I need some real help with him.....
@@InaBeta Thank you for making these videos! I found some guides, but I think I learn a lot better when I'm listening to someone instead of just reading words on a screen, your videos help a lot!
I bought this game two days ago and can't stop playing. Spent half the day at work today playing. I've been able to get two wins on the Defect, but have failed at least 10 times each on Ironclad and Silent. Two games after watching this, I beat the tower on Silent. I dabble in slay the spire content too, I just gotta say I'm absolutely baffled by your editing skills!!! Can I ask what program you're using? Did you have prior experience with video editing or are you just a natural haha
The editor I work with has handled all of the video editing, which is great since I have not the skill nor the desire to learn at this time! He is credited in the details.
Thanks, E5 and I work hard on it for sure, so I know we both appreciate it! I find myself taking that boss relic most times too, but it's so nice to hang on to the Ring of the Snake for later too though!
This was great! As a new player this is the type of detailed information I need. I hope to see a guide on the Defect at some point! He's my favorite class.
@@InaBeta Hey I just literally completed it with her using some of your advise here and in the other videos. Just needed to tweak a few things and finally reached the end with her. Awesome video Inabeta! I always preferred the defect, but in the last few runs started to love the silent even more! I think I would need a watcher guide, cant even beat the game with her, I simply cant understand how to play her decks.
i find that silent is the fastest scaling character in the game. defect needs to put out tons of power cards to scale, ironclad needs to get himself into trouble in order to play 3 cost powers. but most of silents scaling cards costs 1 and she have so much draw she can almost play all of his scaling cards in 2-3 turns without getting into much trouble. but still,i find her to be the weakest(skill issue of mine) and her playstyle really relies on the bosses she will fight.
Thanks, been looking for a guide on the silent for a while. Been struggling to ascend with this character. Although I love to know whats some of the best synergy cards is for this character. For my games the poison and shiv cards barely work well together without relic help. So usually I aim at start to focus on one of those. Problem being the game can be very curve ball with RNG. Often times find I have to adopt both poison and shiv due to crazy RNG.
Yep, you've pretty much got it. Poison cards and Shiv cards generally all synergize together and relics aren't necessary but certainly help. Some mix and match of poison and shiv (IE envenom with shivs) can sometimes help shore up damage problems that happen due to RNG in your card offers.
I'm a big fan of the Ironclad for more than just thematic reasons. Early on in the beta I made it all the way to the end, before the heart really existed. 1) The blessing that gives the next three combats 1 hp 2) Accuracy, because I really like Shiv builds 3) I'd say the Watcher because I've never even played her yet. I'm trying to get the elusive heart kill post-beta on the Silent so I'll have it on the core three first before starting Watcher
Came back to rewatch this video. Completely forgot I had this & just started playing Slay the Spire again. I think the Silent is my favorite one to play with. I almost beat the boss for Tower 3 but didn’t have enough artifacts and/or defensive cards. I also tried to avoid all the mini bosses which ended up shooting my self in the foot because of the strong monsters I encountered on Tower 3 leading up to the final boss. I now know not to do that unless I really need to skip them.
Just wanna say, in my very first run after watching this video (and the general tips one) and overall third one EVER I managed to win, thanks a lot! Altough having played a couple card games in my life I already knew some of these strategies, what really helped me was the confirmation that said strategies are still optimal in this game and knowing which cards are generally good (I made great use of Terror, Choke, Well-Laid Plan, Wraith Form and the two AoE Poison cards), also stumbling upon a random event that upgraded all cards in my deck and picking up a relic that automatically upgraded all Skills I picked up from there definitely had a big impact LOL Thanks again for the guide! The Silent is my favorite but I will now watch the other guides and play some runs with the other classes

I typically play a build heavily centered around spamming shivs. Never once gave a thought to putting envenom in there. Sounds absolutely ridiculous since I average 6 shivs per turn. Thanks man!
Really needed this, I seem to suck at using the Silent. No completed campaigns yet. Had a good run earlier but I got cocky with an elite and unlucky with my cards. Guess I just haven't gotten good enough block cards or that dexterity. Had plenty of shiv related cards but nothing to actually help use them all with the lacking energy. Maybe my issue is that I get too many cards-

@@Babbleplay It's a single-player game, so nobody can really tell you how to enjoy it. As with everyone that plays this game, all I hope is that you do enjoy it, however that may be :)
Very excited for the rest of the class guides! Definitely hoping for Defect or Watcher next since Ironclad seems a lot more straightforward.
We hope to get back to them as soon as we can! We're both busy adults with many important things to do, unfortunately. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for understanding!
I'm pretty new but had my first win with the silent running a poison deck. But corpse explosion is the only reason I won lol 😂
Question though, at what point should I stop adding cards to my deck? Is there a perfect deck size? 25-30?
There is no easy answer to that. There is no perfect deck size, any size deck can work as long as you can reliably get to things you need. It's more of a question of 1) does the card you want to add serve a function that is necessary/not already present in your deck? and 2) will this help me get to things that I need to get in play quickly?
I just discovered this game and I love your content. I know you've moved on from your comments, but kuddos for making content that is still relevant 2 years later.
Always around for comments like this! Glad you liked the guides and good luck in The Spire!
@@elim9054 Definitely biased towards her myself; she's totally my fave! Many of my most memorable runs have been with her for sure.
Hell yeah dude! Keep it up.
I did the shiv pach build omg it does so much damage playing like 50 cards in a turn I almost beat the heart my first time getting to it
Fun fact: I managed to kill the Heart for the first time right after I watched this video
POG! Glad the video helped you Slay the Spire!
If you don’t mind me asking, why’d you stop uploading? I’ve just found this game and this channel, I’ve loved both, so I just thought I’d ask why you stopped.
Because I stopped streaming and making all content. I'd done it for 4 years and it wasn't working out how I wanted to so it was time to move on.
@@InaBeta Sorry it didn’t go the way you wanted, either way have a great day man!
@@sovietshank7621 Much love and enjoy your day :)
The starting relic is weak at the very beginning but as you get stronger cards it becomes better. Also good with Innate.
Your vids are great I wish you uploaded again
Yeah, me too. Just not in the cards, unfortunately. Thanks for the compliment and I'm glad it helped!
I'm more of an Ironclad guy what makes playing The Silent challenging. With your explainations I (at last) made it through next ascension. Thank you a lot!
Aw hell yeah, man; I'm so glad for you! Glad to help, glad to hear and glad you enjoyed!
I've played about 400 hours of this game since getting it about two years ago and I'm still making cool new discoveries, probably one of my favorite games ever. Nice guide, I subscribed

I got my first heart clear after this vid on A5 - regretted my Predator pickup, and the deck was a little bloated at the end, but a win is a win.
Congrats!!
5:28 Shiv deck incoming!! ;)
It was! This one in particular, I believe: ua-cam.com/video/py86CNllh8Q/v-deo.html
today i finished act 3 with her for the 1st time, i got lucky, as usually i run Shiv + Poison build and i got two relics that made it for me, on exhaus draw random card + playing power card making random card in hand cost 0
Grats on that 1st win; here's to your first Heart kill in the future! Good luck in The Spire!
I just got lucky and kept getting the add 3 copies of one card. Kept adding Shivs x3 which meant 12 shivs a turn with shuriken scaling the damage every 3 shivs
Sounds like fun!
I definitely feel more confident to use the Silent now. Thanks man!
Glad it helped! Hope you absolutely rekk your next attempt!
I enjoy your editing and content style. Props.
Thanks! We're hoping to produce more sooner rather than later!
it bothers me that people think that poison and shiv are the only strategies for silent when you can also do massive damage with deck cycling and playing the same offensive card or two a dozen times in a turn like eviscerate, slice or sneaky strike and if time eater is a concern just take either skewer or flechettes.
Silent also has energy scaling that she can use with either card draw or skewer, poison and dex scaling aren't the only ones.
Sure can! That's why I specifically speak against it here.
7:42 I didn't understand why you need to put block in place before clicking end button. The enemy does not get to attack, if the poison kills it.
I've made the mistake of not accounting for something and taking damage I didn't need to often enough that it became second nature to just play the block regardless. It doesn't hurt to be extra sure in this game.
Hey man i was wondering if you planned to make more videos? Last video was two years ago 😢
No, I don't unfortunately; I have moved on to other things at this point. We didn't have the opportunity to make these videos until like the very end of my time streaming. Thanks for understanding.

Well shit, I guess I'm a nerd
We all nerd down here.
Envenom is totally my favorite niche card
Right there with you; wish I could get it to be awesome more often! But, ya know, niche lol
@@InaBeta hah right?! Also I've been playing this game for years and just discovered your videos 😂 they're great though!
Biggest thing that helped me when I first started was realizing I should skip cards and that you can't start a run with a deck planned out, like your videos say "everything is situational"

That was so fucking sick syncing the music to the syllables to the title. Big thumbs up
i find that silent is the fastest scaling character in the game. defect needs to put out tons of power cards to scale, ironclad needs to get himself into trouble in order to play 3 cost powers. but most of silents scaling cards costs 1 and she have so much draw she can almost play all of his scaling cards in 2-3 turns without getting into much trouble. but still,i find her to be the weakest(skill issue of mine) and her playstyle really relies on the bosses she will fight.
Not alone on that one; definitely considered the most difficult character by most.
As a Silent Main who’s been looking for general advice… this is better than any Reddit-worshipped Jorbs stream I’ve been recommended to watch.
Damn, thanks man! Glad you enjoyed!
Next class guide for The Defect please!
Possibly!
1) The blessing that gives the next three combats 1 hp
2) Accuracy, because I really like Shiv builds
3) I'd say the Watcher because I've never even played her yet. I'm trying to get the elusive heart kill post-beta on the Silent so I'll have it on the core three first before starting Watcher
Love going for that elite snipe and when Accuracy works out too!
Sounds like you're all ready for success on your next run!
I’m late to the spire and want your voice to guide me
Hopefully it helped!
Just wanna say, in my very first run after watching this video (and the general tips one) and overall third one EVER I managed to win, thanks a lot! Altough having played a couple card games in my life I already knew some of these strategies, what really helped me was the confirmation that said strategies are still optimal in this game and knowing which cards are generally good (I made great use of Terror, Choke, Well-Laid Plan, Wraith Form and the two AoE Poison cards), also stumbling upon a random event that upgraded all cards in my deck and picking up a relic that automatically upgraded all Skills I picked up from there definitely had a big impact LOL
Thanks again for the guide! The Silent is my favorite but I will now watch the other guides and play some runs with the other classes

It's pretty nifty if you can line it up!
Really needed this, I seem to suck at using the Silent. No completed campaigns yet. Had a good run earlier but I got cocky with an elite and unlucky with my cards. The Silent is the first character I managed to actually win with,
I had envenom on my first turn and a handful of blade dances so the final boss was easier than most of my runs act 2 bosses.
I usually choke on act 2 now even with every character.
Act 1 to Act 2 is the highest jump in difficulty, for sure. Really need to build your deck in act 1 with act 2 in mind.
I might be late on the ride because of the game being free last month, but thank you so much for the guide! I just completed my first run with Ironclad, and I’d figure on focusing with her now that I “completed” the class. Thanks again!
