  • After a water change with soft water, I noticed our RNBE’s went crazy spawning. The 1st minute of this is edited, and following that I’ve left the raw footage

      Yeah, they are pretty fish and we were lucky to get these well coloured ones. The more inbred seems to make them quite pale. They also do better in a darker tank/background where the colours really pop

    I could watch them swim around all day long :)
    My aquaponics system is housed in my greenhouse, so I don't get to see my fish too often - something I miss.
    Do you sell your fish to shops Mick?
    I used to sell fish, birds and animals to pet shops, but fattening up Koi for a few years should bring in a lot more cash for less work.

    Great video. How long did you leave the mop in,and did you set many eggs?
    Am from UK and have some juvenile signifier species.

    • @DIYMick
      @DIYMick  3 роки тому +3

      We leave the mop in all the time and check every 2-3 days. This day was particularly busy and got about 25 eggs. With luminatus it seems like the more you have the more eggs you get (seems obvious right), but some other species if you have too many, especially males, they end up chasing it’s other around more than mating

      @@DIYMick thanks for the info. I think I may have too many males. Hard to tell ,atm.

    Fun vid, I love these cuties. Do the eggs stick to the spawning mop like angelfish eggs or just fall amongst it like rasbora eggs? And if they do stick, how much pressure can the eggs withstand, such as being removed with forceps, fingers, etc?

    • @DIYMick
      @DIYMick  Рік тому

      Sticky eggs. You can remove them with fingers

    Hello, I am also breeding pseudomugil luminatus currently and I had a couple questions if you don't mind.
    -What gender ratio do you use in your spawning tank?
    -What do you feed your freshly hatched fry? I feed mine sera micron currently
    -Do you feed the fry bbs at a certain stage? If so, approximately how large were the fry before you fed them bbs?
    Thanks for your time

    • @DIYMick
      @DIYMick  3 роки тому

      Hi there.
      - With luminatus it doesn't seem to matter so much, but we do about 2M/4F breeding groups.
      - mixture of hikari first bites and golden pearl powder foods. We also do baby brine shrimp and microworms as they get bigger
      - Yes. not sure the size..as we have mixes of fry in the growout, we just feed them bbs and they will eventually eat it when they are big enough. I would say at least 2-3 weeks old though

    Do u think it is possible to let the eggs stay in the tank and let it breed naturally and also leave the fry in and feed it everyday instead of taking the eggs out then taking hatching the fry out in another tank

    • @Destiny-ph3fy
      @Destiny-ph3fy 3 роки тому

      And I have moss in my tank, do you think this will work for a spawning mop?

    • @DIYMick
      @DIYMick  3 роки тому +2

      @@Destiny-ph3fy They will spawn in moss and hatch ok, but depending on the adults, they may or may not eat them. I have found stray fry before in the tank, so at least some do survive. If you want to maximise success you'll need to separate the eggs.

  • @dientrung9948
    @dientrung9948 2 роки тому

    May I ask how long does it take from egg to adult and what is the survival rate to adulthood? thank

    • @DIYMick
      @DIYMick  2 роки тому +1

      About 4-6 months i feel. Hard to say on survival rate. Too many to count. But i dont see dead fry so i think it's pretty high

    Awesome video. What temperature do you keep the tank? And when you find the eggs do you move them to another tank?

    • @DIYMick
      @DIYMick  2 роки тому +1

      Temp is around 22 degrees+. It’s an outdoor tank (with a heater), so in summer it can get quite high some days (28). Eggs go into a separate container with a bit of meth blue for about a week, then into a breeder box to hatch (fine net)
