In fairness, many people who have a good understanding of a foreign language still struggle if someone speaks that language too fast. he is just going a little slower to help those who need it - the right thing to do in my view.
Steve was such a miserable soul when he was in his prime of his career. Understandably. He took it seriously. But you could tell how much he now enjoys being himself since retiring. Love the guy 😁
In tournaments yes, but get him doing an exhibition and he’s superb, and very funny with it and he’s always been this way. I saw him in exhibition at my local club just after he’d won the Lada championship where he made the first televised 147, and before he’d won his first world championship. He drove up to Lancashire in the Lada and stayed overnight at my mate’s house. I’ve seen many pro snooker players exhibition matches at clubs, Steve was by far the best doing awesome shots that I’d not seen any other pro do. He did the one handed, cue like a javelin, screwback into the middle pocket… but then it was his impression of, then world champion darts player, Eric Bristow playing the shot.
It's funny, isn't it, that most people made him out to be a boring bastard when he was in his prime, simply because of the way he played the game - as if someone's personality must be reflected in the way they hit a snooker ball! The truth is, he has always been an eloquent, intelligent guy with a great sense of humour. As a player he was simply dong his job through being utterly ruthless.
@@LucasAdamson Peter Ebdon is... rather slow. Takes ages to take a shot. So when Steve speaks English very slowly, and calls it Hungarian... Hungarian: slow; Peter Ebdon: slow.
I know nothing about snooker, and haven't heard of any players, but this guy is absolutely hilarious. More funny than most stand-up comedians I've seen!
Hey folks, I'm not really a big snooker fan (sometimes I enjoy watching it on TV), but that were 20 minutes of pure entertainment and wow! Thank you! :)
Steve Davis is a legend. I loved watching his own style of snooker playing when I was a young nipper, that joke made me laugh too. Those trick shot were amazing, well done Steve for still showing us how magic you are.
Brilliant, what a bloke, and to think folk thought he was boring back in the day. He played up to that image lol, legend and in the top 10 players of snooker that I have ever seen. Maybe 5, 👏 👏 👏 , Cheers Steve
I just stumbled upon this vid...and it reminded me of the time 9back in the 80's when Steve visited our club for a charity frame with a club member and beat him using the butt end of the cue for every shot! A charming and charismatic guy, and so funny!

What a guy! The other surprise to me is what incredibly good taste in music the man has, and not just that, but contemporary music as well. Hard to believe this is the guy listening to the same glitched uk electronica as me. He’s played a boiler room set ffs :D
A great champion then with a very great sense of humour nowadays. I replay the vid of the rematch with Dennis on a regular base. They never get boring. Thanks for sharing!
Well, let me tell you - I DO remember Steve Davis. One of the best. Nobody on the face of the planet was as good as Sullivan. But in his prime, at that time he was unbeatable.
First player I ever saw dominate snooker in the 1980's, was a big fan as a kid and everyone hated him for dominating ha ha ! But the UK in general always loves the under dog, I was the exception as a kid because for me he was the best I have ever seen.
RESPONDI433 Davis was hated because he came off as cold and a little bit stuck up. You could tell he came from a cushy background. He didn't really make friends or socialise with other players on the circuit. But he's mellowed with age, become far more approachable and seems like a bit of a laugh. I don't hold it against him that he was distant and cold in his playing prime because he maybe needed to be that way to have a competitive edge. Hendry was similar in that regard too.
I did the exact same trick shot, when he came to my uncles snooker hall in Burnley as an 11 year old he asked me to come up and do the same thing, crazy
"Hungarian player Peter Ebdon" I can't believe nobody laughed at that, after his joke about how slow Hungarian people are. Ebdon is the slowest snooker player to ever walk the earth 😂 brilliant steve
Steve Davis was lucky as he always knew if his snooker career didnt work out, he could always be a succesfull stand up comedian.
If I am not mistaken, he became even a DJ... Thundermuscler
Stanislav Mohorita, Yes, he did try his hand at that, he was a legend at clearing dance floors!
