  • Thank you for watching!
This bowl consists of 96 baltic birch plywood segments, and 24 walnut segments (120 total). All rings are about 3/4" thick, so the total height is just under 4.5". Overall diameter is roughly 11.5".

Fantastic work!!! I'm in a Sculpting-like class, and I made a chess piece, the pawn. (clay, haha) And If you'd like, I can send you a picture of the finished piece once it's done. I still need to let it dry out and turn it into Bisque ware, after that I'll glaze it and make the finished product. (My instructor is going to teach me how to make Glaze look like marble)

+Jeremy Schmidt -got this from watching someone else's video: mix appropriate color sanding dust with glue, pack in any holes left over. Also, one gentleman used elongated rubber bands to hold the pieces in a ring. when the ring was too large, he tied a rope around the rings, put a smallish weight on top/middle, made sure the pieces lined up and tied a rope around them and in the knot of the rope, twisted it tight with a screwdriver, used something to hold the screwdriver (I couldn't see what - probably a rubber band! 😉), periodically checking alignment. Then he piled on more weights. That seemed to work, but I bet it takes a lot of practice. But you probably have figured this out all ready, just thought I'd pass the info on.

There aren't really any angles to work out. It's just a normal 12-segment ring except it's cut with the blade tilted. And so long as the blade stays at the same angle throughout the project, everything will fit.

If there is a small bump or a piece of dirt on the table, it's more likely to land in the recessed middle area. If the bowl was flat then it would rock back & forth on the bump.

Also has to do with the weight of the circular object is basically all carried using the outer rim of the circle. So by cutting away the inside you actually lose next to no stability.

A big dust collector hose with some mesh or window screen over the end is great for sucking small pieces away from the blade, but not up the hose. (An onion bag works great and is about the cheapest way to get something mesh in a hurry.) And a well done! I've never cut that many pieces without ending up with slight errors adding up to major problems.

You're so clever! I am not a woodworker (i just watch woodowrking vids for relaxation/entertainment/wishing-I-could-afford-to-become-a-woodworker purposes) and thoroughly enjoyed this.

Jeremy: Watched most of your video about making a basket weave bowl and noticed that you had trouble with the wood pieces sliding around when you glued them up. You mentioned it several times. A little trick I learned gluing up some of my projects is sprinkling a little salt on the glue when you get it spread out and the wood pieces will not slide around when you put them together. It is worth a try.

Beautiful bowl, and perfectly edited step-by-step, so I feel I can recreate it, but you didn't hide how much work it will be!

I never thought plywood could look so beautiful. Exquisite work as usual. You make it look so easy too. I need a lathe now :-)

Hey Jeremy, you can sprinkle a bit of table salt in a joint to grip the wood and keep it from sliding about when pressure is applied. Awesome work sir.

Very nicely done. Obviously you are a lot smarter than me. What you came up with for methods is amazing to me. I love it. Keep the great videos coming.

I love the design and your execution. At the end I was looking at it and something seemed off. Then I realized it. You made four rings of plywood. I think five (or more, in odd increments) would be more aesthetically pleasing. With five rings it would alternate with three vertical pieces in alignment, then two vertical pieces in alignment, then three and so on. I am not dogging you at all. I think it is awesomely, I think I would like to try this sometime.
I think putting the vertical pieces on the bias also added a better aesthetic then having them perfectly vertical.
