"The hunchback of Notre Dame" is the most underrated movie of Disney and Frollo with Scar are the best villain of Disney

Black Culdron and Sword in the Stone are good too but not as good as the others mentioned. Some sequels don't get the attention they deserve either. Others though can be forgotten
We all love Fairy Godmother's take on Holding Out For A Hero, but can we also talk about her Introduction song? It starts out whimsical and cheery, like you would expect from Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, but as it goes along, it gets more intense, aggressive, and suggestive, making things clear that something is off with this Fairy Godmother and she's not like others before her.
i mean we already knew she wasnt a normal fairiy when she orders from the fairy mcdonalds because her diet is ruined.
Who knew Jennifer Saunders has such amazing pipes! What a song!
I'm so happy to see 'Friends on the other side' high on the list but so disappointed no one in the comments is acknowledging it, Keith David is just such an iconic actor with such a great voice and he absolutely nails it, He flawlessly gives off a sinister, evil but groovy and funky vibe, so perfect.

How Bad I can Be used to be a song called Biggering, which instead of the Onceler being naive about what he's doing, he fully embraces the business-hell hole where you can see him slowly devolve where the line "Who cares if some trees are dying?" was originally "who cares if some things are dying?". Unfortunately it was cut because it was "too dark for kids" but the most likely reason was it was because Illuminations is also a big business and you can only go so far when your movie that call out big businesses gets reviewed and approved by a big business.
As kids, you hate the villains, as adults you understand them. It's pretty clear that the writers gave the villains a much better songs than the heroes just to make them very likeable
well...and since a few years disney is not producing classic disney villains anymore .. the last one was Mother Gothel

I actually preferred villains as kids, like when I was little I was more excited to meet cruella at Disneyland than the princesses
Society wants to teach kids that the world is black and white. When you grow up and face reality, you realize there are Gray areas in life. But even then, the gray areas are hard to see with all the crap going on in the world.

Fun fact: Jim Cummings took over in Be Prepared because Jeremy Irons had vocal troubles while recording it, and after "YOU WON'T GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME!", his voice gave out

@@nevaehhamilton3493 Not actually more like they didn't really prepare him for the range. He's one of the best men singers I have heard aside from Jim Cummings shame he didn't have much of a singing career before this as I've never seen him on anything major before this that I know of.

Hellfire is undeniably and undisputedly the most dark song disney has EVER created(hell I think it's the most grim song in an animated movie even)...as an adult now hellfire is giving me goosebumps and I'm like no way I listened to this as a kid with a happy face😂

As a kid I straight up blocked this out, watched the movie as an adult and was like Frollo has a song?
How Bad Can I Be is such an incredible song. That whole scene is probably the best representation of corruption I've ever seen. It's done in a super short amount of time, has a crazy catchy tune, and shows the Onceler's entire downward spiral from being a good guy to a full on villain in literally ONE SONG.
IMO, it's on par with the beginning of Up in terms of storytelling and message. It's fantastic.

Biggering is a better song but it's way too remorseful. HBCIB does a much better job of portraying how easy it is to turn this horrible concept into something catchy and marketable hence better storytelling. I remember someone described Biggering as a harrowing struggle and HBCIB as a massacre of nature followed by a selfie with the corpse

Personally, I would switch Be Prepared and Hellfire. They’re both good, but Hellfire has no equal competition. Hellfire is by far the most sinister and haunting music for a Disney movie out there. It conjures themes none thought Disney could’ve pulled off.

Villains often at times get the greatest songs in animated films. Poor Unfortunate Souls, In the Dark of the Night, Hellfire, and Be Prepared (the best one imo)are my top favorites from this list!
I can't believe "i need a hero" is Not very high on the list. This Song deserve more justice
I wonder if it's not as high as some might place it because the Bonnie Tyler version of the song is better known, whereas many of the higher placed songs get remembered more. Also, it's a cover, not an original created for the film. Jennifer Saunders does sing it well, however.

the thing that suprises me the most is that biggering isn't on this list but how bad can i be is. biggering was the origional version of how bad can i be. and in my opinion its WAY better then most of the songs on this list. and biggering is my favorite villian song of all time... screw love is an open door, run from mother knows best, PASS ON HOW BAD CAN I BE, biggering is probably my favorite, and i very much recomend listening to it...it summerizes the true onceler.

Apparently there was another version of this song which was way darker and it got cut down from that. That was kind of a stupid decision. The deleted song was heat

Just curious. Most I've ever accomplished was a couple time stamps and titles & that was done with old fashion paper & pen the typed in.

For some reason "The Lion Kings" "Be Prepared" from Scar just stands out so well. Tony Jay's Frollo comes second for sure. Both Irons and Jay have that booming voice that sounds villainous. Tony Jay's Galactus in Fantastic Four: TAS is all time classic.
So glad "My Lullaby" got some representation, the violence in some of those lines was insane for Disney and I'm here for it lol

Honestly I think Zira's song is a better "villain" song than Scar's, if we want to go by the title of the video. Personally, the only reasons I can think of for Scar's song making it into the video over Zira's is a.) It is catchier, I'll admit that. And b.) It might actually be TOO dark to compare to Be Prepared...that & I think the person who made the list didn't like the idea of Zira using Scar to get what she wants, like her song suggests, lol.
One could argue that Worthless from The Brave Little Toaster is also a villain song; it is the thing are fighting against the entire movie. A lot more depressing than Cutting Edge though.
I love Hellfire. Frollo's internal battle with six of the seven deadly sins (excluding gluttony) all at once is so beautifully human.

A lot of these wouldn't be my top 20 but I was ECSTASTIC to see "Toxic Love" and "Playing with the Big Boys" because they're so underappreciated ahhh. Side note, as much as I love "Be Prepared" I think Hellfire should've been number one
Not a lot of people know that "how bad can I be" was supposed to actually be a song called "biggering" which is a much better villain song for the oncler/greedler, but they changed it saying that biggering was way to real and dark. That just truly shows what they're priority's were when making the Lorax movie. If they wanted to villainize greedy industries, they should have went with biggering to really set a point, not act like it would victimize "Innocent" large greedy companys.
Animated villain songs are best villain songs! in fact the songs are one of the many things that make these particular animated movie villains so great, because everyone loves a villain that can sing and almost every animated villain has at least one song.

While Be Prepared is a wonderful song, placing it next to Hellfire makes it absolutely clear that the latter is a superior song in form, performance, relevance to its film, and breadth beyond it.
I will be honest, there is something about the song “Savages” that is soooo strong and powerful, not just by the lyrics, but what is happening in the movie as well, it is just so intense. At least that’s what I feel about this song when I hear it.
For me it's the message, it shows how we should always try to see through the eyes of those different from us, regardless if it's race, religion, nationality, ethnicity or anything else (minus a few bad things). This is just as important today. It took me a bit to realize I don't have to accept something to respect it, like an opinion/view/way different from my own. If it didn't match my own then clearly that person was wrong, a monster, a savage, when in reality they were just another human with a different way of thinking. Politics are another good one for this topic.
Sorry, for the longish reply, I just really love this scene & all it represents, both presently and historically.

The only thing I don't like about it is that they revised the lyrics to make it more politically correct for later releases, which while I understand the sentiments Disney is trying to amend, really goes against what the colonizers believed and did.

*Fun fact:* _How bad can I be_ was just a replacement song, because the original song called *Biggering* was considered too “dark” for a kids movie.
If Biggering had been in here I can tell you it would easily be the number 2 or even the 1. For me the only villain song that is *Hellfire* level.
Simba's Pride had several treats in it. Zira's song "My Lullaby" is definitely a great one (that I was pleasantly surprised to see here), but her actress Suzanne Plechette was outstanding as a villain set with the single-minded purpose of revenge and absolute power. It's one of the few sequels that stands well, in my opinion.
honorable mention: Other Friends, Steven Universe The Movie. Spinel's introductory song is a wonderful Electro Swing bop, gives us a good look at Spinel's abilities, and clever lyrics hint at her past.
Disney doesn’t own that show, also nobody asked!

When the entire Ratigan entry went by without mentioning Vincent Price, I assumed the list just wouldn’t be bringing up vocal talent and took a small amount of psychic damage every time it was thereafter. Perfectly villainous!

The poor unfortunate soul is my go-to song, and Hellfire, due to the very creepy way that judge would fantasy about Esmerelda, gave me chills. I can't wait for the live-action of hunchback of Notre Dame

While I actually like "How Bad Can It Be?" song, I'm really bummed out that "The Biggering" never made it in the film, despite it fits Dr. Suess original book's message better.

I actually like both versions. I actually read another comment from a different video that said they maybe both songs could’ve been together as one song. And I kind of like that idea. Like “How Bad Can I Possibly Be” to start as lightly dark, but as the song played on it turns into “Biggering,” which go a lot more darker. (Especially since that is the reason why it got cut from the movie, being a little too dark.)
Yeah it's a brilliant idea. "How bad can I be" should be the start of the once ler just doing this what he is as a way of survival, but then even after he's made a life worth living, he still wants more and continues to do so not cause of greed, but because of pride. It stopped becoming about survival and for him to make it as big as possible ignoring all those he's affecting and that's what leads into "biggering"

Mother Knows Best did hit me, it was pure emotional manipulation and because it was so realistic that way it hit hard. Planning to kill the king and take over is a thing from stories or rare cases in history, but millions of people have horrible parents who emotionally manipulate them every day. Hellfire also hit hard because of how realistic the type of evil it portrayed was.
I've never watched the one with Odette, but when I heard that part I thought it sounded like Tim Curry, it sounded so much like his songs from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The original villain song "Biggering" that was first going to be used in The Lorax instead of "how bad can I be" is waaaaay better. Definitely wish they used that one, as it would have had a bigger impact.
Maybe they only included the song used in the movie. Biggering got removed so its not in the list. If it was, it would be Top 3 easily. That song is a masterpiece.
Poor Unfortunate Souls is probably my fav but I do have a love for Mother Knows Best. I find that sound intriguing. The singing isn’t even fantastic but it’s somehow perfect!
finally Savages gets some recognition, it serves its point in the movie but its a crazy impactful song, as a kid I just thought it was a fun cool song, growing up, now being 17, its so much darker and harsh than i had realized, and its one of the strongest villain songs to me, dunno why, just is

I actually like Zira’s song Lullaby more because of how unhinged and maniacal she sounds. But yet still has the same level of cool that scar had because that’s what inspired her. Honestly the lion king is just one of the pillars of Disney
"The Dark of The Night" needs to be a little higher on the list. "Poor Unfortunate Souls" is a bop, but Rasputin singing his vengeful ballad shakes the spine
Honestly I love "Savages" because it actually illustrates war surprisingly well. It starts with the only one who would gain something (Governor Radcliffe) singing but he then convinces others to fight with him. The Powatan joining in is a good choice to show that even with an actual villian starting wars, too often is the other side able to become the bad guys by participating in the war just as eagerly.
The deleted song from The Lorax "Biggering" is way much darker and much better villain song than "How Bad Can I Be?". To those who don't know, "Biggering" was meant to be the original villain song to The Lorax that the Onceler sang. But the studio executives thought it was too dark for a children's movie that it had to be rewritten and recomposed, which turned out to become "How Bad Can I Be?". If you haven't listened to "Biggering", I really suggest you do so!
Actually I don’t think it was because it was too dark, it was because it was too real about corporate businesses and they didn’t want people thinking that about their company so they changed it to something that makes companies look ignorant to some of the damage they cause (how bad can I be)

Be Prepared is so iconic. It sucks the live-action version got ruined but the animated version is stellar and such an iconic song

Fair enough, I found myself quietly singing it and my little brother (who was REALLY into MLP for some reason back then) was all: "why are you singing that song it's a bAd gUy sOnG!" It's so good, and I was never really into it

The first movie I ever saw in theatres was Anastasia I was very young and not at all ready for Rasputins song. I apparently started crying and we had to leave. It’s still haunting. I personally believe hellfire is the best villain song.

I love the little backing in Hellfire of the choir. As frollo sings 'it's not my fault' and 'I'm not to blame' they chant Mea Culpa which is literally 'my fault' in Latin, just reinforcing the fact that frollo is the wicked one and the villain. It's such an excellently written song and movie. It used to scare me as a kid but as an adult and having read the original story itself from victor hugo I greatly appreciate the darkness of the movie and definitely respect that old Disney wasnt afraid to tackle these twisted, deep themes and make a dark movie. Nowadays if they tried that they would probably get smacked with cancel culture which is a shame
Something else about the description in the video got me... that chorus in Hellfire is anything but hellish. It's basically Frollo's conscience personified telling him he's wrong.
And to think, the Disney adaptation of Hunchback is quite a bit brighter than the book. ;)
For me, the best is Hellfire from Hunchback Of Notre Dame.

I have to say I think “Poor Unfortunate Souls” is the best villain song in any movie animated or not. You get all the sinister undertones and you can tell Ursula is having so much fun at the same time. I could watch this song’s sequence in the movie all day!

"Feel like a million" in Kronk's new grove is a great villan song. Yzma's song manipulates all of us into thinking she's nice now until you read more into it and realize it's all for manipulation
I find it funny how in "playing with the big boys" those two guys try to convince that they are "true" magicans in comparison to moses, when they are actually just con Artists themselfs.
What's also great is how, without saying anything, Moses creates a snake that swallows the other ones.
I recently heard the French version of Hellfire and it's basically Hellfire taken up to 11 and Frollo's lyrics there actually made me more uncomfortable than the English version, I urge everyone to at least listen to it at least once. Also, the original song for the Onceler ('Biggering') will always have a place in my heart. As always MsMojo, I adore the list~
