Last time I saw Boston, they introduced not a "backup singer", but an "assistant singer" to help out with the high parts that they could no longer hit. I thought it was great. I loved that they announced it right up front, and gave credit to him.
In my opinion, I think Roberta and Traci were awesome as backup singers, and Cece, Lisa and Anne were fine to play the songs that they got hired, also Teddy with the harmonica and keyboard was pretty cool, for example only one step down of the one in the album, I really like the version of November Rain in Tokyo ‘92. And of course Guns N’ Roses was in his prime back then, I wasn’t born at the time, but I saw them with Axl, Slash and Duff in 2018 ‘cause it’s my favorite band, the concert was amazing and speechless, it seemed to me that they keep that level that I saw on the videos of those years.
I honestly don’t care if Slaah has his dates mixed up. A person can’t remember everything and it’s not like he’s making anything up. He was there, involved and lived through it all.
From 85 to 91 it was 5 guys, ever since then there has been 6-8 people on stage. So for the vast majority of their existence, GNR has had more than they started with. So I guess I don't have a problem with the added musicians
I like the basic GnR guys. Axl, Slash, Izzy, Matt and Duff. I like Steven but I’m aware he was doing too many drugs to actually be able to play. And Matt is phenomenal.
Ok can anyone tell me obviously there’s been the skull faces on GN’R first album & posters from the illusions lineup on tour skull faces but can anyone tell me if someone come out with any traci & Roberta type skull faces ?
Doesn’t seem like a big deal now but i remember how it was controversial with the fans at the time…the kids were all about the hard rocking metal vibe and suddenly there was backing singers, grand pianos and horns like some old time pop group. I remember many kids ditched Guns for the more pure heavy metal sounds of Metallica. Guns n Roses were like a gateway into the more heavier bands for many of the fans
At the time the media and folks try to write them off as bloated, but they set the standard. Two decades later n look at the pop acts now bigger than a striped down horn n key sections. When you do things for the 1st time ppl talk shot and have opinions. Having different way of play the same song live is artistic as fuck! Yeah it was different than the Ritz N Club days, but it was still gangsta as hell, Taste good, Don’t it?
Guns N Roses wasn't GnR after they started adding all the excess people. Appetite For Destruction was one of the best albums of all time IMO. GnR Lies was good. The illusions albums had some good songs on it. But that's because they were written for Appetite For Destruction. They ceased to be the same band once Steven and Izzy were gone.
And today many bands play along with prerecorded tracks, which im ok with, so long as they are used minimally.. They are used ti fill out sections of songs, backup vocals, etc as in the studio there can be multiple guitar parts, keyboards, etc that the band would have to hire additional musicians to fill out the sound or sound closer to the album.... Problem is these tracks are Over used and abused and some are cool with the entire band miming to their cd and nothing is live and a lot of pop bands have done this, but its supposed to be a LIVE performance, not lip synching to a fully prerecorded song!.. I don't know if Guns ever used tracks as they have so many additional musicians on stage, but I disagree with added horns and such that aren't on the album!.. Excuse the rant that simply states a live performance should be either 100% live or as close to it as possible!..
I understand exactly what he ment. He said Slash learned alot from his players that been around the block. Slash has stated mAny times he learns his licks from everyone else. Even country guitar players. So yea im sure he picked up stuff from. everyone he played with...
The bare bones rock n roll band of street toughs is what I signed on for. Piano in the band and some horns on the records, fine. The rest is just a waste of space. They could've pared down Use Your Illusion into one epic record that equaled or surpassed Appetite. Instead the two half filler albums that were anticlimactic. At the time the double album big production felt like a jip. And they still feel meh between the great tracks. The meh songs would've been great eventually like don't cry and you could be mine became after more refinement.
I thought about a condensed version of the Illusion album since they had the one sold at Walmart. That would have been way more Epic, just 10 to 12 songs, all Barn burners.
I couldn't disagree more. There's only maybe 5 songs on the entirety of the two albums that aren't worth listening to. They are as follows: UYI1: Back off Bitch Garden of Eden Don't Damn Me UYI2: Shotgun Blues My World I really enjoy everything else to this day. Granted, some are better than others, but still... They are great rock albums. There's a reason BOTH of those records sold OVER FIVE MILLION COPIES EACH!!!
Yeah they both sold millions of copies because there are good songs on both albums. But neither album by itself has the song quality of appetite. I think if they were to trim the fat, a single use your Illusion album would have been a better follow up. I love both of the albums, but neither would ever be on my favorite list because of all the songs I have to skip.
I just didn’t care for the two versions of don’t cry, and the McCartney and Dylan covers. Also my world was kinda whack. The rest of the songs are great. Always preferred estranged over November rain.
Nah that's lame man. Plenty of awesome bands from the seventies that used piano players, horn players, female backup vocals. What Guns did was different than what every other band was doing which is what sets great bands apart from all the others. The rolling Stones always had a pano player, and tink it was lame how the record companies didn't like the look of him so they kept the stones a 5 piece band for purposes of pleasing the masses. Stones also had horn sections and lots of different instruments and they were known as the world's most dangerous band, and the standard bearer for hard rock. It would have been obnoxious on every song or songs it wasn't required but they didn't really do that other than add piano to patience which was a good touch in my opinion.
Dan Melvin you forgetting about behind the curtain bass player Darryl Jones ? The Stones didn’t want the black man in the mix visually, paid him very very well to play off stage in 80s / 90s and today ....Fuk the stones , blood transfusion vampires
@@jonnycolt3124 yeah never heard about that. I'm not a super big stones insider but I watched a documentary on it recently. All I know is use your illusion albums like them or not we're not similar to what other bands at the time were doing. Many claim it was a much more mainstream record than appetite but I would say it was the exact opposite. Maybe Don't Cry, bit other than that even Novemenr Rain and Estranged werent the way typical pop songs were written. From that oersoective grunge was much more pop and radio frwidnly than most the tracks on Use Your Illusion. The album lacked hit songs because their were progressive songs, too many curse words, to many long guitar soloes, and a lot of them were too blues based (dust n bones , 14 years, bad obsession, bad apples) or to punk rock (rndh, perfect crime, garfen of Eden, shotgun blues), or even to metal (don't damn me , and Coma which Coma is one of the songs that's even a bit or has elements of progressive rock along with locomotive). Some songs were even country like you ain't the first.
THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH UYI TOUR IS THE BAND HAD LOST MOST OF THE,IN YOUR FACE, POWER OF THERE SOUND DUE TO LOOSING STEVEN ADLER. THE GUY THAT TOOK HIS PLACE HAS NO STYLE. HES A BY THE BOOK SIMPLE DRUMMER. APPETITE SONGS ON UYI TOUR HAD LITTLE POWER.
Last time I saw Boston, they introduced not a "backup singer", but an "assistant singer" to help out with the high parts that they could no longer hit. I thought it was great. I loved that they announced it right up front, and gave credit to him.
Pure class
I liked it because GN'R still sounded raw as ever, but the new pieces didn't water the sound down at all IMO. My favorite era.
Great video.

I still like gun's n roses, I'm still crazy and wild for Slash .😍💕😎
I honestly don’t care if Slaah has his dates mixed up. A person can’t remember everything and it’s not like he’s making anything up. He was there, involved and lived through it all.

I liked the backup girls but i thought the horn section was kinda.... meh
976 horn section sucked but the name was cool
In the GNR biopic, Teddy Andreadis will be played by Danny McBride. I dare anyone to disagree.
IDK... Jack Black could pull it off too; plus he has the heavy metal chops to sell it, & make it believable.
I can’t love this comment enough
I would give everything to hear those bare down versions.
YEAH I THINK SLASH AND RICHARD TRADE OFF LEAD AND WORK VERY WELL TOGETHER.
I like the basic GnR guys. Axl, Slash, Izzy, Matt and Duff. I like Steven but I’m aware he was doing too many drugs to actually be able to play. And Matt is phenomenal.
Ted is kind of interesting to listen to. Clearly knew what it was like to be around all of the guys. Glad he defended Axl. Nice to hear.
Yea, but Axle wasnt "always" right!!
Ok can anyone tell me obviously there’s been the skull faces on GN’R first album & posters from the illusions lineup on tour skull faces but can anyone tell me if someone come out with any traci & Roberta type skull faces ?
marino with hearth reactions thicc damn that sucks
marino with hearth reactions thicc I’ve been trying to ask around if they ever did one for them because I had an amazing idea for a tattoo
Izzy Stradlin was the only cat who ever played in that act who had any clue. When he left they no longer mattered. They became complete cheese after.
Hey Sid, where and when is the photo of Slash, John 5, Teddy, and Ronnie Wood from at 6:37?

Why should you have to defend having backup singers? I hate elitism in music. The Clash 'sold out' when they released London Calling.
At the time the media and folks try to write them off as bloated, but they set the standard. Two decades later n look at the pop acts now bigger than a striped down horn n key sections. Sammy Hagar was never late nor was Dave from Y&T.sang 👍

Who are the back up singers the girls? what are their names and where are they now?
Tracy and roberta

Slash learned from zigzag yeah ok 👌 cause most people know teddy 🧸 sure he only be talked to cause of guns
I understand exactly what he ment. He said Slash learned alot from his players that been around the block. Slash has stated mAny times he learns his licks from everyone else. Even country guitar players. So yea im sure he picked up stuff from.
everyone he played with...
He was bummed big-time and has seen know glory since
I can't think of a band in history that was improved by a horn section and backing singers.
Spiritualized
Who know name of 2 ladys back up singer?
Tracy and Roberta

Funny how everybody insists UYI had filler tracks but nobody can agree on which they are. IDK why more music is a bad thing... you people are nuts.
I couldn't disagree more. There's only maybe 5 songs on the entirety of the two albums that aren't worth listening to. They are as follows:

I would have saved about $ℵ1 and opt to use backing tracks.

Needs more umlaut! Lemmy did five times the output and never had a horn section.
He plays Oregon? Her a great Oregon player? Is he the one causing all of those riots out there?
He doesn't play Portland, Oregon. He plays Astoria, Oregon. There's a difference.
Appetite for distortion??? Lol really??
nothing wrong with backup singers. need some chicks to have fun with, when you're stuck waiting for axl.

FIRST! haha
Can I have your autograph?
Are there really this big of losers in the world? Damn.. Who gives a fuck
of course i love my fans 😎😎👌
