    Just your mortgage and debt payment is 50% of your income, that's pretty intense!

    "Just because one month looks this way doesn't mean every month going forward will look this way. It might look this way for a month, two months, or six months, but you can always improve things, and they WILL get better if you keep working at it." I'm in a dark place and I can't tell you how reassuring it was to hear you talk about this in this episode. Thank you Lauren!

    Love this channel. Don’t feel bad, Lauren. We live on Long Island and we are really tight despite two relatively high paying jobs. Our finances are very similar to yours... Income, mortgage payment, etc.
    I’m the “financial” person but I feel similar to you. You are definitely doing well. You’ve got the right mindset, stay the course and trust the process. You got this 💪🏻

    Oooo girl! I am so glad I’m not the only one crying while I budget. Thank you for sharing!!! Some months are up, some months are down. The important thing is that we’re still in the game. 🙌

    I’m glad you were able to reevaluate and make yourself feel a little better about this month’s budget. You are so right that not every month will be the same. And I just have to say: you have come a long way and are honestly in an amazing financial position. You have a fully funded emergency fund, sinking funds to cover anything else that pops up, your only debt is less than 3% interest, and while your pay yourself first may not be as big as you wanted it, I know your husband is still
    Investing out of his paycheck. You should definitely give yourself more credit with how far you’ve come! I have been here for quite some time, and I’m honestly amazed by you!

    We’re suppose to be doing 15% since we paid off debt and got our house, but it’s more like 8%. Oh well, gonna keep trying!

    I feel you on the pay yourself first. Things have been so expensive lately that it is hard to get ahead. Also agree with what you said that not every month will be like this and that is a good attitude to have. It is just a season on your family's road to financial freedom.

      Yes, this is a tough season! I’m trying to keep perspective like the fact that we invested $5,000 in January so not investing as much in April is OK 👍

    Would you consider doing a month-long grocery/dining out challenge where you try to (for example) cut your grocery/dining out funds by 50%, then the video will take viewers through how you accomplished this? I think that'd be a great video.

    Try to contrite on the huge wins, like being in a home you love, sinking funds and a fully funded emergency fund.
    You have come so far!!!🎉

    Hi Lauren, Thanks for sharing, you are doing a great job! Isn't it worrying that you can save so little with such a good income? Life has gotten really expensive! I understand that it can be frustrating, but your attitude is admirable and you should be so proud of yourself for achieving so much in the last few years!

    Our take home income is similar and our budget for a house payment is 3k but we can’t find anything in that price range. All the homes are 450k+. We have more time since our kid is 2 but I definitely want to be in a home before kindergarten starts. There’s so much anxiety about finding the right home and hoping it’s in the budget.

    You should remember that all of your savings for sinking funds are basically paying yourself first. I think you can cut $500 per month on groceries. You could probably cut the household budget by $100 as well. You could cut your personal spending to $50 per month. This way it won't take 7 more years to pay off the student loan.

    Oof, feeling the pinch with my upcoming budget, too. We finally have our roths dialed in & this is our first check with it on autopay and our smaller margin is going to a hard adjustment.

  • @amyjones4007
    @amyjones4007 Місяць тому +7

    I’d encourage you to actually pay yourself first. Put your money in the ROTH first and work with that new balance. You can do it! 👍🏻

    • @violettefemme21
      @violettefemme21 Місяць тому +1

      Exactly! “Pay Yourself First” is supposed to mean that is what you allocate first. Then everything else is done after that. It’s a way to say that it is your top priority. Not just where any leftover money goes. It’s fine to not make it the top priority but if it’s not then it isn’t “Pay Yourself First” it’s “Pay Yourself Last”. Which is fine if that’s where you’re at.

  • @meghanchilds5312
    @meghanchilds5312 Місяць тому

    I know budgeting for investing is hard for pay yourself first! I think you should start to view paying your mortgage as pay yourself first because every time you pay the principle you are increasing the equity you own! Buying a house is an investment in your future!

    It’s going to be okay, take one month at a time. 😊
    Besides your household is still contributing to 401k and sinking funds.

    I love how real you are in your videos. We also bought a house and our budget is similar because anyone living in a HCOL area is experiencing something similar. This is real life. What isn’t real life imo is when people have abnormally low mortgages and save a bunch of money. That’s just not realistic anymore

  • @matthewharrigan3568
    @matthewharrigan3568 Місяць тому +2

    You're still paying yourself first with 401k contributions, but that doesn't show up when looking at net pay, correct?

  • @bernardomakaveli

    Loved the Video Lauren. My wife and I are in a HCOL with three kids. We currently don't own we rent a modest home and the best school district/safety/parks etc. I was wondering does your mortgahe payment already include Taxes and Insurance/maintenance. My wife and I want to make the jump to buy, but not sure its worth it for is. The same house we rent (1.5Mil) home if we buy throw 200K in and payment would be 8K with insurance/Maintenance/taxes etc. What do you think?

      @julianamartinez9737 thanks! I watched it. Man I will stay renting using only 18% of my income for a 4bdr, 3bath, 2000 sq/ft home in a HCOL area. Having a ton of room in our budget renting then owning. At least fir the next 2-5 years for sure.

    I think it will be helpful if you lower your Grocery budget..from $1200-$1500, I think you”ll be okay with $600-$700/month..cooking at home/ meal prep is the key..by doing that you can allocate the difference towards your emergency or investment.

      i think the issue is lauren buys all organic groceries and really feels the benefits of that! i personally couldn’t afford doing that and don’t care too much lol. but it’s all about what you prioritize. she really cares about organic so she does just that!

    Question. I remeber your debt free videos, but now I see the student loan debt. I must have missed a video, did your husband go back to school?

    • @allihead6292
      @allihead6292 Місяць тому +7

      They got a windfall inheritance or something and said they were paying off the student loan, but didn’t, but called themselves debt free because they could have paid it. Then they used the money toward another house, so now they don’t have the money and they have the student loan.
