hey Dylan , i am a pro musician play 8 or 9 gigs a week been playing professionally over 40 years and you are one of the best teachers ive ever seen . everything i can apply instantly to my gigs ,you only teach whats necessary ! you could watch endless videos and not get anything and 5 miutes of your videos you could grow in a year ! thanks bro we need ya
This was perfect for me, You got to move was the first song I instinctively played when I got my first resonator, a green Gretsch Honey Dipper. This lesson is now in my slide guitar practice playlist. I recommend checking out Republic Guitar's resonators. They are clearly inspired by National in their range and aesthetics. Modern vintage. Great playing, as usual. Res on! ✌✌
Dylan - the channel is really coming into its own - it's great!!! I am getting a lot from this and just started playing more acoustic slide - welcome more videos here on technique on acoustic vs. electric. Are you posting tabs anywhere? Much thanks and Happy New Year!!!
Thanks so much Dylan for your wealth of knowledge and advice on slide. I'm finally getting more comfortable with this style and more automatic with the open tunings.
Great video Dylan. During lockdown I ordered a Jim Dandy and a Rockslides glass and aerial Posen slide. I gave up 😢 This gives me a spark again, I do love the delta Blues. Thank you.
I just subscribed because of your AWESOME playing on Rhett Shull’s Great Gig In The Sky video. You are an amazing player, looking forward to exploring your video offerings. Thanks!
I know you said you wouldn’t use string gauges higher than 12 on an acoustic but if I wanted to use 13 gauge strings should I worry about 13s or higher damaging an inexpensive dreadnought like a guitar center Mitchell md 100s? I bought a 3 pack of 13s and didn’t want to waste the money but I also don’t want to ruin the bridge plate ☮️
Thank you for the video. Play a lot of acoustic slide in upside down style. For me it makes a big difference to use a thicker string on the highest string. I use 16 or 15 and the rest is a normal 13 set. But with the 16 I have a louder clearer sound. Especially because I play it with my thumb. At least for my ear the strings gauge on the highest string makes a big difference. What do you think about it?
If it works for you it works for you! I’d personally never use a 16 if I was tuning any higher than C standard/Open C, but as long as it’s not damaging your guitar then go for it!
Can I use the acoustic guitar to study slide in general? Cus I don't know why I can't sound good on the electric guitar. It seems there's a tone mistake, or even a wrong slide material that makes it sound horrible, but I'll accept that it's my playing skills that make me sound like garbage on the electric guitar lol.
You can use any guitar you’d like, although there has to be something going on technique-wise if your tone sounds good normally without slide and all of a sudden sounds bad with it. Or you could be using a slide that’s too thin/light, but it’s hard to say. If you ever decide to take a private lesson with me then we can certainly work on finding and fixing the issue!
@@dylanadamsguitar I really appreciate your attention, I will try to change my slide to a thicker one. Unfortunately, as a Brazilian, everything is too expensive for me to try a lesson, but thank you. Keep making more videos, you are one of my main references as a slide guitar player.
Great video man. Loved where you sat in with Rhett. Hope that happens more
Thanks so much man, definitely won’t be the last time!
I had a boxcar that was incredible.
I sold it and bought a honey dipper. Also gretsch. Biscuit cone and brass body. Even more incredibler

Your channel is gold, and your playing too 🔥

You are an excellent teacher. Thx for all the good ideas.

Great video man, ive been playing slide on an acoustic for years but waiting on my tricone national being built 😊
Another great video. Hey man really really blown away by your artistry on that Rhett jam. Fantastic.
Thanks so much man 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Great video as usual. “You gotta move” is really only “Come on in my kitchen” by Robert Johnson with new words.
You could say that about thousands of songs of course.
Thanks!
Ah man, thank you so much for the tip!! Much appreciated!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Awesome lesson. Would love to hear a whole lesson on Blind Willie Johnson. You are a great teacher!

So good. Thanks Dylan!
Can you explain why you’d prefer to play acoustic slide in open D rather than open E ?
Many thanks for all your efforts. Best wishes.
sweet lesson, a pdf would be good to see the fretting positions. thanks
Do you have tabs for the lessons? When I practice alone I like to use them for when I lose my place.
This is a very helpful video!

I’m still learning to finger pick instead of using a traditional pick. Is it necessary to finger pick for slide guitar?

@@dylanadamsguitarthanks for the quick answer. I use it with open D and it’s only one string which is that thick. Guitar is fine until now, I guess 😅
@@luigicalzone1558it’s better. The Messer set has exactly the same 👍

Hey Dylan you were jamming on Rhett Shulls channel with the ancient Sitka recently. Can you tell me what song you were playing?
The one that starts with the little walkdown thing? “Willin’” by Little Feat!
Is the Gretsch the G9200?
That’s the one!
I gave it a shot last night and all I heard was the slide scraping on the strings....terrible. They are 12 gauge I believe. Action is high as well.
I'm in , my slide playing sucks , I need some help.....subd ya , sounds great bro
Hey man, we all have to start somewhere and everyone sounds like a dying cat on slide at first haha. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Kaiser and Mansfield play this stuff so well. Off of their TRIMMED AND BURNING album. Subbed as Well mate.
Going get me one of those gretsch
