Thanks for the useful tips, great video! The advice with the tone knob is certainly good, but more importantly you showed how you can change the tone with your right hand more than (with) anything else. First you played an example on the neck PU with tone at 10 to show how that can maybe sound a bit too dull. A minute or so later, you played the same PU with the tone even on 5 and got more(!) treble or at least an overall more balanced sound (which is what any tone setting is really about). That's exactly what I mean: it's all in your right hand : ) I'm pretty sure you're aware of this and that you also could have gotten a smoother tone with the bridge PU and the tone control at 10 (in the first tip) IF you had only wanted to 😉 .
I haven't got too far into the course yet but so far so good, really enjoying it, laid out very well I think. Also got your signature slide. I have really small hands and was using the Joey Landreth signature. I was very happy with it but the weight of yours definitely feels better to me. Cheers from Canada
Dylan, the way you used compressor, i use for very subtle flanger for clean sounds. I have a walrus audio that is set to randomize waves so you cant tell the movement underneath is as time based as it would normally seem. Thanks for the vid!
I disagree. The volume knob (on guitar and amp) is much more important. Crank a tube amp and it's hard to not get a thick tasty tone. The tone knob is just the finishing touches to adjust to taste for more or less cut but all will still sound pretty good. Don't crank an amp and it won't matter what you do with the tone knob.
rolling that tone knob to the center (some believe that is where Leo intended it to be) you can get into the Duane zone. A Ron Ellis 50B in the bridge (I think) is the best I have heard.
Great video! Do you think string gauge/string type makes much of a difference? I'm always bothered by the string buzz on strings 5+6 when using slide, but flatwounds sound pretty dead.
DYLAN ADAMS, How did Duane Allman use the Fuzz Face pedal using Slide Guitar with the Allman Brothers? He must have rolled down his tone control on his les paul to 5 or 6 and used the Fuzz Face as a FAT EQ Booster pedal or to get that FAT Edge of Breakup tone?
Funny, even your "bad" examples sound good. But the "good" example are like ear candy to me. I love great slide guitar playing! But if you don't know what your doing it can be like nails on a chalkboard. Your amazing!!!!
I have been trying to find out.Do you barely have the slide on the strings?Or do you have to press down a little bit?No one seems to know this.Maybe you can help me
Secret to good guitar tone is actually really simple: crank a tube amp. The quieter the amp the harder it is to get good tone and vice versa. Add a little OD with a pedal and/or master volume (less is more) and you've got yourself a thick, tasty tone.
I took lessons from a fella in town the place was called Maryland Music Institute. Sounds classy right? They charged 140$ for half hour a lessons one month. It was horrible, the teacher showed up late every time. Clothes stink of cigarettes. Lessons were supposed to be 30mins were 15min. I won’t ever do it again.
getting mor into slide through your content and got me out of a rut
Same here brother. So inspired to learn slide in standard. I’ve been having fun practicing for hours again
You got the tone I love, appreciate your tips and got me a Mythos Au fuzz pedal (my first fuzz ever)!
The course is excellent. I’m about 3/4 of the way through it.
IYKYK hahaha! Nice! Always like your videos. Thanks again! Cheers!
Just finished the course last night. Good stuff.

Absolutely GREAT video, Dylan!!!
Thanks for posting this and keep em coming! 🎸🎶❤️❤️
Good stuff as always!!
Love your course. On my strat I find i need a little less clean than I might play, but sometimes it's all in the volume amount for tone.
thanks for the great advice
Love this. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Dylan
All the examples you did of “this sounds bad” sounded awesome to me! Great player here is what counts! Good tips nonetheless
Nice video. Thanks. What pickups are on that tele?
Great vid!
I think we all would love to see some more full song covers of u with smokestack

I like to use a UA 1176 compressor pedal in the "Lowell George" sustain mode for slide.
The tone knob is the most useful tip for any guitar player

Great vid. Make a Tone in Positive Grid Tonecloud so we can download it!
How do you like that brass knuckle bridge?
what is the string hight you prefer for playing slide on a guitar that will also be used for chords and or lead melodies
I have a partscaster that looks exactly like this, but I like the pickguard more with the black binding. Too bad it's only 5 holes!
Nice
Where did you get that shirt?

I need to know what is that Telecaster!!! 😅
My main question is how much pressure do you put on the strings with your slide? I always find I rattling the frets.
Usually slide players raise the action a bit.

Someone decided to masturbate their "knowledge" all over everyone else's shoes.
You could also just f&%kin practice
I cut 8k for a searing and full tone with slide and also play on 9/10 bridge vol
$149.99 seems like a lot of money for a UA-camr's guitar course.
This guy isn't your run of the mill UA-cam guitar teacher. Oh, yeah... and you get what you pay for.
You get what you pay for… A lot of work has been put into a course like that…
@@Jakexx01 He's not a teacher, he's a gigging musician.
@@perryguitar1 Education shouldn't be expensive.
