Klaus started his career when he was 34, and died at 39. Way too soon for such a genius to leave us, seriously, why do the best always go so soon? He had decades of musical talent to provide us with :s

    What power art thou
    Who from below
    Hast made me rise
    Unwillingly and slow
    From beds of everlasting snow
    See'st thou not how stiff
    And wondrous old
Far unfit to bear the bitter cold
    I can scarcely move
    Or draw my breath
    I can scarcely move
    Or draw my breath
    Let me, let me,

    Masterpiece!
I think the life of Klaus Nomi is should be a film or a book. It ends tragic (he was one of the first AIDS-patients; nurses would put a plate for his door in the hospital because they were affraid of the virus). But it also has a little boy in Germany listening to Maria Callas & rock. His performances in NY in the 70's and 80's were legendary and even people like David Bowie would come see them. He's a paradise-bird. Good to see/hear the Cold Song here

I always saw Purcell's 'King Arthur" as somewhat weird and nonsensical with scenes like the Cold Genius and magick woods and whatnot. I almost think having seemingly random reasons for songs like this was more Purcell just playing with the genre and with styles. He wanted a song with this very deliberate and very focused pacing that keeps rising so he found a way to force one in so he could experiment. That being said, as much as his version of the story is bonkers, the song was brilliantly composed and considering how hard I imagine it is to sing in that very forced and deliberate pace Nomi absolutely hit it out of the park with his rendition. Seeing the live version just reaffirmed how great a singer he was and what incredible control he had over his voice. Truly one of a kind and an irreplaceable voice.

This is odd...when I first saw pictures of Klaus Nomi as a teenager, I saw him as one of those many fashionable decorations for the hip interiors..I never realised til now that he was actually a singer. Many will say that this only adds to the sadness of his early death, I dare to say that I am glad I discovered the man and his music still yet.
