Had it been a man in Bette's place, they would've called him out as abusive, obsessive or possessive like Ross, Gaston, Joker or OJ Simpson. Hell, you saw how they treated Steven Eckholdt who played Henry. Henry was the victim, he was Tina's pawn and fans still talked shit about Steven, mainly poking fun at Steven's back during Henry and Tina's sex scene. No one called Tina out for using Henry, they instead personally attacked Steven Eckholdt, like they did to Rosie O'Donnell and Vanessa Williams.

@@louwinters508 I mean this is a drama series thats supposed to reflect real life. Rachel Green in Friends was more or less the same, but it was a comedy, and the whole group were somewhat goofy and silly. The producer even referred to Rachel as spoiled and self-obsessed, and said, "In the wrong hands, you don't like Rachel." The same applies here, the characters are just written to be so unlikeable, and when there are sweeter characters like Carrie who are not quite as attractive, they receive hate while the sexy but bad ones are popular. Its as if they're the same people who rooted for Gaston to win in Beauty and the Beast because of his appearance, regardless of his personality.
Thats why I can only speculate that its because its lesbians that they get free passes. Shane cheated on Carmen and then jilted her, cheated on Paige out of the blue, had sex with Nikki right after Nikki and Jenny broke up, lied to Tina about how Carrie was feeling but then told Bette and that it was "now or never" to break Tina and Carrie up, yet she's still one of the most popular characters. A man in Shane's place would be labelled as a misogynistic sexual predator.
@@TDKiller415 Yes but like you said. That was a comedy. So you can forgive the characters a little more. Plus I was a child when I watched friends an adult when I saw the L word for the first time. I watched it long after it's original run had ended.
The Lword characters are truly vile people in general. Some are OK. Like I liked Dana. Apparently she dies of cancer. Go figure.
Shane is an absolute bitch who treats women like dirt. I guess they are just not my type of characters. Hence why I stopped watching after season 2. I just wanted there to be a disaster and for most of them to be killed off. 😆

This show always shows that gay relationships do not last forever. Writers should have kept tina and Bette together showing that gay marriage can be rock solid like any other marriage. Those two went through ups and downs and are still together. Thats what writers should have shown.

@@pennynicholas5756 The whole first season of Generation Q worked out fine without them getting back together, and there are people (like me) hoping that Bette moves on and develops something with Maya.
Bette and Tina may still love and care for each other because of the years they spent together, but they are clearly not in love with each other anymore, made even clearer when Tina fell in love with Carrie and left Bette. Like many relationships in real life, theirs ended, and to have them reconcile for the millionth time after all the heartache they've caused each other and other people for the sake of sex scenes would be beyond ridiculous.

in this beginning of this season Bette says she cheated on her ex-WIFE which led to the divorce. when Bette had sex with Candice they were “life partners”. At the end of season 6 Bette and Tina were back together giving things a second shot. Apparently they got married and divorced in this time frame because of a second cheating incident?. IDK that’s how i interpreted it. On the original L word, when the girls did a bike ride for breast cancer, Alice calls out Bette for being a big big big cheater back in the day. So it would make sense she cheated twice that’s just how i processed what was said lol

Dani and Bette both have strong personalities. Bette just learned to open up more and show her feelings. Dani isn't there yet. Yes Dani opened up to Bette because they are so much alike. Not seeing the two get together. Doesn't feel right.
But on a side note, the scene where Tina says she is marrying Carrie.......
......as always, I just CANNOT understand why the Emmy Awards don't even acknowledge Jennifer Beals and Laurel Holloman for thrir acting. Bette's reaction and being on the verge of tears just seemed so genuine, not forced on.
This series was just far superior to the original. It should be recognised with a few Emmy Award nominations at least, not just one for one actor (Ossie Davis, BRILLIANT actor, RIP) who plays a homophobic father.
Easily the most realistic "TiBette" scene since The L Word season 3. Marja was the best thing to happen to The L Word 👏🏻👏🏻 Showtime basically told Ilene Chaiken to back off and stop feeding the people with false lesbian stereotypes.

@@wecanlovelarevolutiondelam4806 Like cheating, manipulating and breaking hearts is a natural thing among lesbians, like when it comes to them, its not toxic like in straight relationships and the two parties will always end up back together, no matter how many other people they cheat on in the process. Straight or gay relationships should not determine what's right or wrong, values must be the same. Bette never really faced punishment for when she raped Tina in the first series.
There's list on Wikipedia of the bad stereotypes the original series was criticised for enforcing. Look it up.
