- This video demos several Fender amps. The blackface Bassman and blackface Princeton Reverb are able to deliver some real cranked tones while the blackfaced silverface Deluxe Reverb holds up more firmly with sparkle and quacky notes.
The Bassman is run with jumped channels through a AB/Y pedal.
Amps, from left to right:
1965 Bassman AB165, semiclosed cabinet 1x12" Eminence Maverick .
1966 Princeton Reverb dual 6V6 with 1x10" Jensen C10n speaker.
1969 Deluxe Reverb dual 6L6 with 1x12" EVM 12L speaker.
Wow I love the sound of that Princeton
'We'd like to do a little thing by Bob Dylan, there's his grandmother over there.'
Interesting how the blackface AB165 with a 12" speaker have the same tone of Bassman of Vintage Channel of Fender Super Sonic 60 amp with 2x12" Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. High fidelity with original amp. I love this tone!
Bassman much more rich & mellow than the tight, waspy princeton. Deluxe reverb has a nice sweet mirror-like tone next to these two imho. Thanks for the ABC.
Can you do more videos on the Deluxe with the EVM 12L? Seriously considering one of those and you are the only one on youtube that has a EVM 12L in their DR..
I love the Bassman would you mind doing a demo with a 210? I'm thinking of converting a 68 Bassman to a combo like a vibrolux
Bassman tele bridge 0:00 then bassman strat bridge 0:26. Then princeton tele bridge 1:10. Then deluxe strat neck 1:33. The only valid comparison is the bassman tele bridge 0:00 vs the princeton tele bridge 1:10.
Princeton ampen er en vinner for meg, raffinert tone og nydelig kompresjon
It would be better to find differences to use the same riff and the same speaker cabinet in all.
This video is not really doing the AB165 baseman justice,, it needs the Fender OEM 2X12 Cab loaded with the Jensen C12NA Gold Label speakers that were an upgrade in the Mid 60's from Fender... Then you'll really hear what all the fuss was about with these early Bassman tone Monsters.. It's my understanding, that was the only Fender configuration Hendrix used in the Studio, the rest was Marshalls with the true Plexi circuit ,, which was never really my cup of tea....
Hey Jensmo, I just got the 68 custom princeton reissue. I was wondering how I could get more clean headroom? After 5 its really starts to break up. Is the quickest fix putting in a higher watt speaker?
Was the 1x12 speaker that was used with the Bassman 4 ohm?
It was 8 ohm
Interesting but it's not indicative of the amp head tone on the bassman if you're looking for the "bassman - jensen" tone. That speaker combo throws things way, way off.. Not saying bad but it's not as simple as plug and play for historic tones...
+ka74 You're right. The purpose was to demonstrate different cranked tones from these amps. The Bassman will be lot cleaner and louder with 2x12" @ 4 ohms.
strap has mind of its own..lol
