In Pandy, I stayed at the (very basic but friendly) farm campsite near the Skirrid Mountain Inn. Good food at the pub, which as it turns out is the most haunted pub in Wales! Because the last person to be hung was done there...I think they still have the hangman’s noose!
Wow, thanks for Part 1 and now this one. I am thinking of doing the whole thing at the end of June 24 in its entirety. I have done the Thames path in nine days and the Kennet & Avon canal in four days, so I tend to average 24 miles per day. As you have done Offas dyke is 24 too far in one day, but to qualify I do not camp, I pre book into hotels or b&b. The other concern is the amount of mud you encountered, when I was on the Thames path and Kennet paths I encountered similar mud but backtracked to be able to divert and come back to the path a short distance further on. I am not averse to climbing fences. But I like to walk in shorts and do not have boots like you, I have trainers and walking shoes. I too have so called waterproof clothes but my trousers were not waterproof as you have discovered, hence my feet got very wet and looked very white at the hotel at the end of the day. Have now changed my trousers. I would value your thoughts, sorry the post is very long. Looking forward to the rest of your videos. Thank you.
Great post, I love reading these and thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully, your experience will be very different to mine, weather wise. Also, using B&B's you would have opportunity to recover your feet and dry out generally if the weather was misbehaving. I think the main difference between your previous experience and this trail is the elevation gain. Overall, you will have 28,000 feet of ascent in addition to the 177 miles. I manage to do this in ten days and based on the comments I received, most experienced people considered this to be quite an achievement. If I was doing the Thames Path I suspect I would be doing around a similar amount to what you achieved, so hopefully that will give you some idea. In addition, to the videos of the actual trail experience I have also done a trail review which I think you will also find useful for your planning. Always happy to answer questions and share experience, enjoy the videos and I will certainly look forward to hearing how you got on with the trail in June 24. ua-cam.com/video/Aa5aRDXqbaI/v-deo.html
@@AmblingTrails Fantastic, thanks for such a quick reply. I have just watched your review video which shows the snow and vid 2 which shows the horrendous rain in the black mountains with your muddy shoes. You did say you would choose June as the time to go, which is when I propose to go. So, you cannot predict the weather but elevation could change the weather conditions drastically even in June. I think therefore I will still go but maybe aim for 22 miles average per day. Have done thirty miles in a day but that was flat country walking this last June on the Kennet & Avon canal starting at 7.30. finishing at 17.00. My outer garment is waterproof and I am going to try my new trousers out on a really wet day for many miles to check them out. I remember on the Kennet near Devizes the path had not been cleared by maintenance people and the vegetation was some six/seven feet high and obliterated the path, plus it had been raining all night and was still raining when I was walking. The vegetation overhung the path so i was having to push my way through it for several miles. A thoroughly wet demoralising experience, that was the day my feet were white from being soaked all day. I will have to sit down and plan it carefully, hopefully using hotels.com I can find nice hotels with restaurants. I tend to take all food and four 750ml bottles of water with me for each day. It’s interesting to note that walkers are very responsible and take their rubbish with them until they are able to dispose of it responsibly. But when you get to built up areas you see rubbish everywhere, even on public paths. Again thanks for your vids and comments and taking the time to reply to me.
Not quite sure how I came across your wonderful “trail trek” but now I am totally fascinated by your effort and your kindness in sharing with us. Please keep making these videos. They are not only interesting but very inspiring.
Thank you very much for dropping by, really appreciate the comment. There are certainly many more videos (over 100!) that you can watch, hope you enjoy the rest of the series as well. Cheers
Continuing to watch with interest, making past comparisons and future plans for Offa's Dyke. Travelling at this time of year certainly presents its challenges!
No hard plans yet but thinking of taking our little camper to the area this summer and walking some the path in a series of roundish walks, enjoyed the watch
White Castle was quite cool. Seen in this video for only one shot from the outside. But you can go inside and across the inner moat. I was very lucky when I went there…because it was free and good weather.
I’m thoroughly enjoying this mini-series. Yet again the visuals are stunning and the commentary succinct and informative. I’d really like to see a video of a Snowdonia Way hike. Cheers. Adam. :-)

Thanks for the info, sounds like an interesting pub to visit, will pin this as I'm always being asked about campsites on the trails. Cheers
This is UA-cam gold. Great work Sir 👍
Wow, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

Weather forecast spot on again.
Thanks for sharing!
You got that right! Thanks for watching.

Yes I certainly had some challenges travelling at this time of year! Thanks for the watch and best of luck with your plans.

Sounds like a great idea Alan, at least you'll be drier than I was. There are some great places to visit along the way. Thanks for watching.
British weather always the nicest...
Certainly is!

Glad your enjoying it Adam, will add the Snowdonia Way to my investigation list, so many trails... Cheers
Another great video! Really enjoying this series
Awesome, thank you!
What time of year is this please? I’m enjoying your content - thank you
This was the end of March beginning of April, not the best time of year but fitted my schedule. Glad your enjoying the content. Cheers
@@AmblingTrails Thank you. You might consider the Herriot Way to compliment your Yorkshire trails. Cheers
Interesting you say that, as I’m just doing the C2C and somebody else said the same thing, so definitely on my list to do now. Cheers
A CRANE FISH 🐠
Yep, a fish indeed.
