I looked for this scene after hearing about it in the comments of the Casablanca Marseillaise Scene. The drag queen was a surprise.
How do you know that he is a drag queen?!?
There is also an AMAZING Marseillaise scene in Abel Gance's Napoleon, my personal favourite
@@johngulino2651 British soldiers liked to cosplay during WW1 imprisonment, my guy. Good lads lmao.
There are also several drag queens on stage ;-)
great scene
Best film ever made
I still think that this film needs more study and recognition
Chant du départ > Marseillaise
why the drag queens
Ce sont des prisonniers de guerre qui organisent une fête d'où le '' travesti ''. Film de Jean Renoir.
They were staging a play in a POW camp, there's a decided lack of women for female parts. A pretty common occurrence in military life and throughout history. Pull your head of your ass and stop viewing everything through the lens of the modern culture war. Read some actual history instead.
Because they go hard
The scene takes place in a German POW camp where the French prisoners are trying to entertain themselves ... Until they learn of a french victory in battle. And then immediately sing the French national anthem.
