I just made this tonight. Followed the recipe almost exactly (except I didn't have any green beans, so I swapped in some steamed yu choy since that's all I had). All in all, it was pretty amazing. I'm definitely saving this one in the memory banks, so I can impress all my friends next time we have a dinner party. B-) Thanks, dog!!!
I am obsessed with these authentic cooking videos. It's fun to see how one recipe can vary regionally and by family tradition. Cool stuff. I'm super hungry.
Chef san, I just wanted to tell you I'd made this Buta no Kakuni a year ago and turned out wonderful. Not so oily and tender and just tasty. I am Japanese living in the USA for nearly 40 yrs and my half Japanese son loved this. He always asking me to make Yakibuta on ramen in Japan. I'd made a lot of your recipes and loved every one of them. Please say hello to Francis kun. I have 6 dogs and love them all.
I made this recipe this weekend! I moved to Japan a few months ago, and I am just trying to figure out how to cook in Japan. Thanks for the video. It was perfect for a rainy sunday.
I made this for dinner yesterday. Took quite a lot of time but it was worth it! Had to improvise the Otoshi buta, but I got all the ingredients, even the Kombu Kelp. Very delicious :) Thanks Francis and Chef
yes! english name is braised pork belly. the vietnamese one is taken from the chinese as well. Each one uses slightly different sauce base. All use ginger of course.
I made this tonight. Didn't have the long green onion or the seaweed or sake, and changed cooking time but it still turned out delicious. Thank you Francis!!!
I recently made this for my family. You're right. it IS a lot of effort, but it is an amazing dish. EVERYONE loved it. The pork is super tender. We didn't need anything like a knife or whatnot to cut it. It just breaks apart as you cut into it. It was an incredible dish. And many thanks to Chef, for showing us how to make it.
***** I've heard of men, using women and keeping them around for sex. This is probably the first time I've heard a man use a woman for food. On a serious note that's almost as equally horrible.
***** wait... so you cooked for this guy for a long time, and he didn't even say he loves you? You got chef-zoned? Did you say to him that you liked him?
***** i aint the one SPREADING. I'm asking the questions she's answering them. You deny her existence then? or you're calling her stupid? I guess the stupid part is obvious to her tho. But she's young once and you're young once. You have friends that cook super complicated lunches for friends? I say BULLSHIT.
this is currently what I am doing. I already cooked the meat for an hour and 30 minutes. I desperately want it to hurry up and cook. Im drooling at this point watching the video over and over for the directions.
Am I the only one who feels sorry for the dog lol. He's very well trained I must say XD. But I can't help but feel sorry for him being around all that yummy food. I wouldn't be able to do that :/ I would feel like I was teasing the poor thing.
I prefer to have the nice caramelized flavor in the braise instead of getting washed away. Therefore, I'm not a big fan of frying/browning the pork, then blanching and washing it afterward. I know those steps are required to remove the porky smell, but it also washes off all the flavor from the browning process. Instead, I would blanch and wash the pork first, pat it dry, then sear it in a hot pan. Once its nice and browned, simply drain the fats and braise it without washing the flavor away any further. A certain famous chef once said: "no colour, no flavour!".
I kinda understandable what you say but you haven't eaten this KAKNI yet right? This is one thing. That's another. it's one of the hundred way to cook pork in Japanese cuisine. what I don't like is you making it sounds like Japanese don't know about cooking pork at all. we eat porks the way what you say too but KAKUNI is also delicious too. if you have any chance to eat it, try it. you can't say that till you've experienced
Usually for kakuni you don't need to wash it out like she did. I think she did that for the sake of a healthy version. I agree with you, I think I would skip on the washing part lol. It's more flavorful that way!
I have Cooke many of your recipes and I really appreciate what you are teaching. I have cooked your oyakodon, braised fish, kabocha, and now your pork belly. Thank you so much!
Does anyone else feel bad for the dog? It just has to sit there and watch as the pork's being cooked. Remember their noses have thousands of times more scent receptors than our own... that has to be torture lol.
So glad to read, that you are fine! Thanks for letting us know! I hope, that the situation will get less serious from now on! My thoughts are with you...
I love that every dish is given so much time and dedication. Every video is so exciting and wonderful to watch. I'm always very happy to see a new one! I can't wait for the next dish - it's looks soooo good! This pork dish looks amazing. Thanks for the upload!
Wow! talk about timing! I just bought some fresh pork belly cause it was cheap, but had no idea what to do with it. Now I know! This looks amazing! Thank you Francis.
Wuaaai!! Hoishi, desu!!!!! I can't say often enough how thankful I am that you show us that Japanese dishes aren't impossible for us western people to cook =D Thank you, hontoni arigato!
This cooking show is excellent. I have tried a few recepies and they turned out very tasty. The music is very relaxing, the process is clearly explained and the host and chef are just too cute! By the way, I think that this hair length suits the chef better than in the previous videos. She's beautiful.
Even though this dish takes quite some time to make, I will still try it~ Thank you, Francis & CookingWithDog!! You help me eat healthy and interesting food!!!
Making it today. My wife makes it all the time but today is my first try. Thanks for posting. My japanese ability it like that of my teacher........my 4 year old daughter. And for those of you who cry about time......use a pressure pan!
Man that is one lucky dog. He sits there and people just start to cook awesome food like super thick bacon right in front of him. I bet he gets REALLY good treats.
So many times ive been in the supermarket and i kind of run away from pork Belly but your recipe made me think twice, I had that style of cooking in Chinatown especially with pork and yes it gives the pork that crunchy and tender blend so perfect it makes you want to order a few pounds of pork. delicioussssssssssssssss.
The meat takes a while to cook, but it's worth the wait. If an amateur cook like myself can make this dish, anyone can. Thanks for the awesome recipe. フランシスのおかげで美味しい角煮が作れました!本当におりがどう! ものすごい地震と津波でしたけど、無事で安心しました。ボストンから皆様の安全を毎日お祈りし続けます
I love this channel soooooo muuuuch ! I watch every video ! Twice ! I think way more the only two times :) I would really love it they could be more often though

One of the few that kicked off this channel
I'm glad you're still around friend
I don't know about you, but I looove Francis' voice AND haircut. He's such a dog with style
Francis is ridiculously well behaved!!! There no way I could cook pork like that without a puppysnout finding its way into the pot!
@やった😎 ill show up anywhere for food+
茹でた汁は冷まして固まった脂を取り除いて、カツオだしと醤油、ごま油などで美味しいスープになりますよ。春雨やわかめなどを入れて中華風にしています。豚のだしはカツオだしととても合います。
I find it interesting to note how much chef has changed over the years as well. Arigatou chef and Francis we love you and keep cooking

what i adore in Japanese cuisine is that the whole preparation and cooking process is like a religious ritual . Amazing !!!
I watch your videos since always and just now I've saw you guys put the recipe in my language too in description! What a gentle!
after watch 2 videos of the channel , im subscribing it immediately
Her boiled eggs look so cool, the yolk is all runny. Yumm
Mirin is a kind of rice wine similar to sake, but it has a much higher sugar content. It is one of the essential ingredinets for Japanese cooking :)
I made this recipe this weekend! I moved to Japan a few months ago, and I am just trying to figure out how to cook in Japan. Thanks for the video. It was perfect for a rainy sunday.

Very delicious :) Thanks Francis and Chef
Wow made me wanna try making it
Made this last night. Even after shortening the braising time it still rocked! Absolutely would make again! Thanks for sharing!
This looks similar to a Vietnamese dish called thit kho trung! Looks yummy. :)
yes! english name is braised pork belly. the vietnamese one is taken from the chinese as well. Each one uses slightly different sauce base. All use ginger of course.
In the Philippines, it is like "Humba". Hoping that you will try it as well.
I made this tonight. Didn't have the long green onion or the seaweed or sake, and changed cooking time but it still turned out delicious. Thank you Francis!!!
Wooooahhh, actual Asian sounding music...
AWESOMEEEE
She seems so happy cooking :) I wish I knew to cook like this in a traditional Japanese style. Keep up the great work.
You're really a great Chef ... Chef ! And you have all my admiration
thinking of making Kakuni, am coming back to check it out again. been watching your video for 6 years now constantly.
Making this for dinner.. the smell is intoxicating :)
何回見ても、いつも美味しそうなと思っちゃうんだね。色んなレシピをアップロードしてくれてありがとう!
EVERYTIME I WATCH THIS, I IMAGINE IT'S THE DOG TALKING

This dish is great for people bulking up or even losing weight, not much carbs (if any) great protein and veges.
LOVE YOU COOKINGWITHDOG!!!
You can use pork loin, but I recommend Boston butt as it has a higher fat content, making the meat more tender :)
rest in peace king. you will always be remembered 😔😔
Cooking with dog brings me so much joy.
If a Japanese girl cooks for you she loves you! No one's going to go through all that tedius preparation for just friendship. :P
Exactly, if she makes you lunch, she loves and cares about you.
***** Maybe he's dense or something?

He always gets a treat as the show opens. That's how he's able to talk. >.
I'm gonna make this with ramen! :D
this is currently what I am doing. I already cooked the meat for an hour and 30 minutes. I desperately want it to hurry up and cook. Im drooling at this point watching the video over and over for the directions.
I followed this recipe and it came out absolutely tender and delicious with little grease.
All those dislikes from the extreme vegans
Akito 😂😂😂
Finally your february recipe!!!!! I love japanese cook and your recipes! Thanks
Am I the only one who feels sorry for the dog lol. He's very well trained I must say XD. But I can't help but feel sorry for him being around all that yummy food. I wouldn't be able to do that :/ I would feel like I was teasing the poor thing.
he should at least get a reward for being such good boy and such a good host o3o
He did from time to time. Chef can sometimes be seen in the outtakes snitching him a little bite. Francis was well loved and well taken care of.
I am not sure I want to make it as it is a long process, but one day I will. I just enjoy watching the show, especially Francis! Such a good dog!
talk about animal cruelty. you see how they tortured the dog with those delicious sweet pork... lol. :)
Francis is so adorable! I love your channel so much and Francis makes it complete.
In 3:11 Francis is already asleep
Oh my god yes XD
I like how she cooks, she has a very careful and detailed way of handling the food...

I would poop on your face, that's what I'd do. How 'bout that? Huh?

Instead of simmering in water, I strained the broth from the boiling stage and skimmed the fat. Great recipe!
Making it today. My wife makes it all the time but today is my first try. Thanks for posting. My japanese ability it like that of my teacher........my 4 year old daughter. And for those of you who cry about time......use a pressure pan!
