    What amazes me isn't your tutorials (although they are absolutely some of the best on the internet). But the subtle flexes of your painting skill. That tank looks absolutely incredible!!!

    Finally! A tank tutorial aimed at my personal skill level (which can best be described as 'drunken chimpanzee in a tumble dryer').
    That 'airbrush thinner as pigment binder' tip is gold!

    Yo! That pigment wash trick looks super cool! An incredibly realistic build up of dirt and mud for truly zero effort!
    And the best part: a little searching around will get you pigment powder in almost every single colour you can imagine. You can easily have this match with any basing scheme. Earth and mud? Sure. Mars? Of course? A truly alien landscape of purple soil? Why not?

    Love your videos! Watching you build out the new guard has been inspiring to finish my own.
    Would love if you did a video on clear coating. I find it’s often overlooked as a tool for getting interesting effects or even just preventing paint from chipping. (Extra points for explaining how to use it between oil and water to prevent unexpected results)

      I rarely do it, if I do, like for exaton the tanks to unify finishes and to apply decals etc, I just use VMS varnish through my airbrush, best airbrush varnish ever made

      Satin varnish on the area, decal chemicals, press firmly with a qtip to firmly attach to the surface, I like to do a rolling motion. Once it's dry I do matte varnish on top.
      I have a video on decals and how to enhance them to make them look like freehand, check it out

    I still find some of that pigment can still fall off. I love the effect though. Whats the best way to fix it and seal it in so It wont come off when gameing ? Use a varnish like how you protect the paint ? I notice If I dont seal my paint job in with varnish the sharp or spindely parts the paint comes off there easyer. Or the shoulder pads where you tend to pick up the mini. Well done man.

      Varnish first, then pigments. If you want a stronger bond, use pigment binder

    Airbrush thinner is a neat trick, especially since my treasured secret weapon pigment fixer leaked and evaporated 😢
    Is there a difference between using airbrush thinner vs say, matte medium for this? Or does any standard binder do the job? I've seen people use white spirits for this too, so I'm very curious if you've done comparative testing!

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  Рік тому +1

      White Spirits don't work as a fixer, as for the difference between matte varnish or matte medium and this is in the last step of the video. You can't do that with medium or varnish

    Question. Could you just not do the full pigment powder bit and just drybrush the tracks with a metal paint? I think it would look good enough, but I haven't even tested the tutorial you made!

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  Рік тому

      It doesn't work as well, because metal paint will catch on the texture of the pigment giving an unrealistic look.
      It's also messier and riskier to the rest of the tanks paintjob.
      But you can totally do that if you prefer

      So would some other paint than the watered down pigment work? Like watered down brown paint for example?

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  Рік тому

      Not the same at all. Pigments have a very particular finish when they dry, no paint can really replicate it because paints has binders on top of the pigment changing its finish

    No skill camouflage ?

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  Рік тому

      You mean for 28 mm?

    • @SparkSovereign
      @SparkSovereign Рік тому

      Frequently the problem is that camouflage works by making it harder to distinguish shapes, so your eye doesn't identify what it's looking at and can't focus on the threat. You will note that pretty much everything we do that makes models look "nice" is basically "making it easier to read the shapes"; washes, highlights, more advanced rendering, etc. If you do an "effective" camouflage pattern it...works. Which then looks like a mess, because that's the point of the technique.
      You can get away with a lot of camo patterns on tanks because those patterns are designed to hide you at a much farther viewing distance than infantry camo, so even scaled down we're still much closer than effective range and it looks neat rather than, well, camouflaged.
