- Wander Franco is the consensus best prospect in baseball. But some evaluators are calling him the best prospect in a decade. So what makes him so great, and will he live up to these expectations?

i wanna see all 3 wander francos on 1 team
This aged beautifully
Wander is hitting machine. I am going to say it, wander is going to break Tony Gwynn and Jimmy Fox hitting record. I will say Wander Franco will have over 4000 hits in his career. I haven't seen a guy hit like this since ichiro. Good talk my friend.
WANDERRRRRR IS HERE
A couple of years ago I heard David Ortiz talking about this kid and he said he was going to be a super star, this kid is for real
Wander Franco go bulls
This is exactly what I wanted to watch this evening! you can read my mind!
Yall better start buying this mans rookie
Wow! That’s cool he is related to Erick Aybar
and former Ray Willy Aybar
the same Willy Aybar that hit a game 7 dagger home run against Boston in the 2008 ALCS
Could you do an update video going over here you think his first season went
He got the call late June 21st. First at bat double tomorrow vs Boston? 🤔 I’m calling it here.
You forgot Willy Aybar, the former Tampa Bay's third base. He is his uncle. Wander is a swish hitter like Willy.
Been hearing the hype on this man. Glad a secured a rookie auto card already!! Go Franco!!
I have 10 psa 10 prizm and 2 1 of 1 cards let's go!!

Wander Franco isn't the best prospect since Mike trout. The power isn't there
@@gregorywatters3614 didn’t know you knew more than the prospect evaluators at fangraphs.
What's the word on the Yankees Martian Jasson Dominguez?
Congrats on 900!!! 🎉🎉
Great job!
O shit he said the fuck word
What he's done so far in Spring training is such a small sample size and other young players like Kelenic and Witt also have very lofty expectations hanging over their shoulders as well. So it will be very hard to say whether or not he ends up being _the_ next big thing in baseball when he's got such good competition around him. That being said, I could still see him being something special in the near future.
He’s better than expected
Annnnd he just hit homers in back to back games in the ALDS lol
I think the Rays are already underrated, and they will call up Franco for a playoff run (as long as they can do this while still keeping 6 years of service time starting in 2022 or even 2023). Rays replaced Morton and Snell with Patino, Wacha, Archer, McHugh, and Hill. Plus, they have some young pitching still developing in the majors, or prospects who are just about to get their first real opportunities. That's not a bad job by them at all
exactly. its just their owner is not spending that much money.
As a Rays fan I can not wait for this kid. Though I gotta "WANDER" (lol) who will get traded in the infield. I've heard lots of people say Adams but I rather trade Diaz open up third, move Lowe to third and put Wander at 2nd. I get our 3rd base still won't be that scary but our overall infield will be a top 5 in baseball assuming Wander is this sure thing every keeps talking about. Hell I'll be happy if he can just be as table setter and have next to no power his first few year and hit .285+.
I thought Longoria would be the messiah for the Rays but he was just a very good player... Franco may be it
Longo struck out too much
Adames was traded and Taylor Walls was called up. Brandon Lowe has continued to suck so maybe move Wendle to 2B, keep Walls at SS (pretty good SS in college at FSU) and Franco at 3B. Either way the current roster is capable of winning pennant again and the future is bright
Just got called up
I WAS THE 1000TH SUB CONGRATS MAN
James Francos half brother
I have his autograph card :)
You can’t really say he’s the best prospect since Mike Trout considering Trout wasn’t even the #1 prospect when he graduated. He’s a better prospect than Trout (though he most likely won’t be as good of a major leaguer as Trout). Obviously hindsight is 2020 but honestly I liked Acuna better as a prospect than Franco.
that's fair, i mostly just wanted to show the equivalency that if franco becomes near as good as trout it would be the least surprising of any prospect in a long time. acuna probably has more tools and athleticism but id favor franco's higher floor personally
@@PTBNL nothing against a high floor but I don’t know that a high floor warrants an 80. Evaluators have either underrated every hall of gamer in history or they’re overrating Franco. I just don’t understand the 80. They gave Guerrero an 80 hit tool and other #1 prospects have outperformed him greatly. I just don’t see the 80 grade at all. And people tend to forget Acuna was highly touted for his amazing plate vision and speed combo before he suddenly started hitting for power right before he got called up. His stats in 2020 are a great reflection of the plate vision scouts have raved about since he was like 17. Acuna wasn’t just a tools prospect. If anything, Franco is more of a tools prospect because his “super special” trait is his ungodly hands (a physical/body trait) vs Acunas “super special” trait being his plate vision, which isn’t a physical/body trait, to go with the power and speed that others like Moncada and Luis Robert also possess
@@loganbarber9455 It has more to do with his age than anything. The kid was the second youngest kid in A ball yet was one of the top hitters in his league. Over the last 2 years he has the highest average and OPB in the league. All that and he is still a teenager.
@@samthesuspect I understand why he’s the number 1 prospect right now but my point was that the “better prospect than Trout” point is not a fair comparison and that the 80 grade is completely ridiculous considering the grades on previous number 1 prospects, at least one of which (Acuna) actually being a better prospect in my eyes
Wonder if Wander will just become the next Billy Beane (minus the fantastic career as a GM) 🤔
I love the videos. Was wondering how do you come up with the ideas and do the analysis? Do you use Python or something
i kinda just go through baseball news or random baseball reference pages until i find an idea i want to make that people might want to watch. most of the stats i use are publicly available on baseball reference, fangraphs, or baseball savant so i just grab them from there or ill make spreadsheets with excel/tableau to help visualize them if i need to
When is he coming to mlb?
tomorrow
So this scale is saying Wander should be batting 310 to 330 avg. maybe 10 to 15 homers thats a all star/ MVP?
Very interesting, thank you!
Bobby Witt Jr is the next generational player
I wonder if his uncle is Julio Franco?
He sounds like Paul dejong but with a .320 batting average
Wander Franco makes me feel so conflicted. As a baseball fan, I can’t wait to see him mash in the Majors. But as a Yankees fan, I’d be perfectly fine with the Rays keeping him in the Minors for as long as possible.
Yoooooo you're a Yankees fan! Been following your channel since you had like 20 subscribers. I'm also a Yankee fan
@@ommy7672 Haha love that!
yankees fan here too. If they keep him in the minors, that might make them an even better team in the long run, because he'll definitely develop to his fullest extent, and they'd have team control over more of his prime age years
I think they should move wander to second base
@@ommy7672 but then where would they put Lowe? The rays are stronger at 2B right now than SS, so it makes sense to keep Franco at SS
mike trout wasn't the most hyped prospect, so im not sure if saying hes the best prospect since trout is as good as like vlad jr or if you wanna compare an older one, bryce harper.
VLad G is the best prospect since Trout. He will hit for avg and be fast on but doesn't have the load to be a better hitter and power hitter than V G
I think they should move him to second base
Very good prospect but I would take Tatis anyday of the week over Wander.
The 'small frame' thing is stupid. Like in football how people obsess over a QBs arm strength. Have to look at the big picture. Of course you know all this, I'm just venting. Look at Mookie Betts. Tiny. Shouldn't even be in the big leagues lol.
He's getting too much hype. He makes contact with the ball but his power numbers won't be as high.
Great video! Obvious baseball nerd!
Jurikson Profar??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Injuries killed him
Id say kelenic is better
Fernando Tatis has 14 errors at ss he is not elite
He is elite at hitting if he was an American League player I would put him at DH unless the team doesn’t have a shortstop (Rangers and more)
@@epixgbr8030 that’s a good idea. I would probably do something similar or move him to 2b or 3b
Wander Franco: the most overrated prospect in history
