Dandadan feels like the author just threw everything at the wall and somehow this masterpiece ended up coming out. Being Fujimoto's former assistant also adds more fuel to this weird style of manga
That's... pretty much what actually happened! Dandadan's author, Yukinobu Tatsu, had burn-out so his editor (Shihei Lin who also edits CSM, SXF, Jigokuraku 👀👀) suggested he assist Fujimoto on Fire Punch while getting over his writer's block. Years later, and still nothing sticks until Mr. Editor basically tells him to draw whatever he wanted. That's when Tatsu said "IT'S DANDADAN TIME" and dandadaned all over the place.
Y'all gotta stop acting like Fujimoto was a mentor to Yukinobu Tatsu. Yes, he worked as Fujimoto's assistant, but he was Fujimoto's senior and was already working in the manga industry. In fact, it was Tatsu who helped Fujimoto more than anything.
Vamola had a incredible backstory, but the most moving for me was the backstory of the Slit-Mouthed Woman (Kashima Reiko) it only took a few panels to convey SO MUCH detail with no words. It moved me so much and justified the outcome. It made me realize at the end of the day some of the Yokais are former humans who went through some type of grief that turned them into those powerful spirits.
What’s worse is , Acro Silkys daughter is out there somewhere as a sex slave and the men who did that to her are still running free. Just like the people in the corporation that ruined Zuma’s life are still out there.
@@Darth_BatemanI never picked up that she was sold to prostitution. I thought she was taken by a gang or sum. That’s really sad. The cycle went on and she couldn’t take it, forcing herself to do the only thing she thought of, taking her own life
"dandadan's pitch fits more in a gag comedy manga" because it is. It's also a romcom. And a horror manga. And a supernatural manga. It's a lot of things but it still keeps itself cohesive.
The first arc is so amazing probably one of the best arcs in Manga history. But after that the characters got more powerful and the manga went straight to full shonen mode. I still clearly remember reading the mc duo running away from the grandma, so much adrenaline rush.
It’s definitely not as tense or scary as the first arc, but I think the emotional moments are much stronger. I mention the Silky fight in this video, but the same could be said for the Evil Eye and Vamola’s backstories. As a battle manga, Dandadan can be a bit lopsided, but it has so much more going on then just its fights.
Later on they fight the most famous composers of music history or some shit like that. I can take the more original way the first arc went if the plot keeps being that insane
I mean it's not as scary as it used to be but the tension is still very much there. Every fight still feels like they're inches away from death and that they're truly fighting for their lives
I love this series so much, and could gush endlessly about the art, but I'll limit it to my favorite aspect: the body language. So many great moments are captured through the subtle and evocative gestures of the cast captured by a truly masterful artist. For all its bombastic action, and amazing set piece climaxes, the simple way Momo and Ken interact on the page together is perhaps the most impressive to me.
I also, just really like the way the dinner table grows as more and more characters show up to the point where the room feels so crowded but everyone feels like they deserve to be there.
165 chapters of finding balls. _One Hundred Sixty Five_ and it feels like the larger plot is just beginning to take shape but not a single arc has been boring.
The fight between Ken and the evil eye stays my favorite chapter to this day, even if the current arc is still my favorite arc to date. That fight is just so well choreographed. I could go insane detailing all of just that one chapter.
the art is stunning (the line art and character design are top-notch 😱) and the author's imagination and humor are absolutely insane 🤣🤣 the panel you included where momo's Okarun-surfing ( 0:12 split second timing to get it) had me literally rolling on the floor 😂

Apparently, the artist's first job was working on a gundam spinoff manga. Which honestly shows when he does get to draw Mecha in the series - the detail work is crazy good.

AGED INSANELY WELL , this was the first video i watched abt dandadan , and i kid you not when i've heard dandadan gettin a anime adaptation , i was so happy fr
The alien invasion arc (I don't know it's actual name) was my favourite, because of the full-page panels where a whole bunch of aliens were menacingly standing in front of a single enemy, their leader stretching his arms as if taunting the enemy. Extremely intimidating, almost as much as the strongest yokai in the world, which incidentally was present in that very same arc. I also love the "found family" vibe these characters have
Dandadan is the best read I've had this year. It is so goofy yet for some reason, everything feels like "Ok make sense!" while not making any sense at all. This is so crazy that it just fit all together perfectly. It is true art!
I started reading this manga after the anime's first episode and I'm already caught up in the weekly chapters. This manga made me cry like 5 times already bruh.
I remember Dandadan chapter 1 release & thinking “nah sorry not for me” but after giving it a second chance two weeks ago Im so glad to say I’m now caught up, cannot recommend this series enough I love the impossible to predict plot mixed with such believable, relatable character writing. 10/10, will be anime of the year.

this video has become the turning point for me to pick up the story again, thank you :) i tried reading it ages ago and it just wasn't the right time as it hit me right in a sensitive trauma spot around the time i was most fragile about that specific topic lol
I’m so happy to hear it! This manga can cover some pretty difficult subject matter. Sometimes those topics are handled poorly, but I believe the story has continued to mature and treat its weighty moments with more care as time has gone on. I hope you are able to enjoy it, and I really appreciate you taking the time to leave this comment.
On thing about Dandadan that I adore is that many of the creatures, ghosts and aliens are based or inspired by “real” sightings but tweaked and adjusted slightly. As someone who was enthralled with that stuff as a young teen I got so incredibly excited when they referenced things like the Flatwoods monster or the Loch Ness Monster But that’s probably just a me thing
I'm 2 episodes into the anime, and I'm hooked. It absolutely gives me some of the same vibes FLCL gave me years ago, both on the wacky humor, and its more honest moments between the characters. I like em, and more shows need to make characters like this.
Dandadan hits a weird spot for me. Its my favourite manga on SJ+ thats running right now, I would absolutely reccomend it to anyone in the same vein as Undead Unluck (as in, make it past the first 15-20 chapters the story starts picking up its momentum). One thing I do want to say though, is that the series randomness has to be a result of meticulous planning. No way on Gods good earth can you actually make coherent chaos without planning the everloving shit out of it, and thats what makes the story truly great in its own right (besides the fact that Yukinobu is a fucking monster for having art that good and consistent *on a weekly basis*) Keep up the good work boss, loved the vid.
was told about the dandadan ep 1 dropping on crunchy roll from a friend. I then couldn't help myself and had to look for the manga. I proceeded to binge the manga and finished it in 2 days. This anime adaptation is going to be wicked to see. I'm super excited to see the full manga animated. Especially since the first episode only gave us a glimpse of how awesome the art style is going to be.
As an artist I can comprehend the composition of every panel of DANDADAN is FUCKING INSANE! THE SHAPE LANGUAGE! THE CLARITY! ALL TOP NOTCH AND MASTERSTROKES HOLY HELL!
Dandadans batle flow is so good I can really only compare it to Berserk, you FEEL the fights since they are so easy to follow that your eyes just roll into all the hits. It is so damn beautiful. The artist really could have just shortcutted the ball bouncing around in the fight and just made is hit when he wanted but you can really feel how it is present in the whole fight I love it.
I freaking love this series,i really hope it gets a bit more attention now that "weird" stories like Chainsawman are becoming popular, never has a first chapter of manga hooked me as hard as Dandadan
Oh I'm already into Dan Da Dan. Loving it. I heard the creator refer to it as a sort of "wicked FLCL" and since FLCL is one of the best things of all time, I was here for it. So far, both of the first 2 episodes I've seen have each surprised me. Very little media is capable of doing that. But when Turbo Granny said she wanted to 'gobble your weenie', I knew this was going to be good. When the Flatwoods Monster (a cryptid from WV which I thought was so obscure no one outside WV was likely to have heard of it, its not even that popular here in WV where I am) showed up, I was stunned. Hell yeah. And Chainsaw Man was similar. I only checked it out because I heard tons of people were anticipating it. I wasn't sure what to expect. But then it was consistently unpredictable and now I'm a die-hard. JJK is getting all popular but all I can see is Naruto... I mean seriously a main character everyone wants to kill because an evil spirit is inside them, taught by a superninja who covers his special eyes? For fuck sake, how blatant does the rip-off have to be to get called plagiarism?!
I really love this video! I have to also say it reminds me of Mob Psycho and Gintama had a lovechild too. I can definitely also see the Chainsaw Man comparisons. It just feels all around refreshing and so fun!
I found dandadan randomly and i read it without know what it was and first chapter was a masterpiece, like you get that sudden chill after seeing turbo granny for the first time..out of no where and that legendary dialogue
Dandadan feels like the author just threw everything at the wall and somehow this masterpiece ended up coming out. Being Fujimoto's former assistant also adds more fuel to this weird style of manga
RANDOM BULLSHIT GO!! and it just fucking worked so well
a year on, and it still feels like random bullshit happens, yet it feels so great to read, lol
I saw an article saying that it used Dadaism as basa.... so the throwing everything on the wall is very close to reality.

Fujimoto's assistants all are making great works
On thing about Dandadan that I adore is that many of the creatures, ghosts and aliens are based or inspired by “real” sightings but tweaked and adjusted slightly. As someone who was enthralled with that stuff as a young teen I got so incredibly excited when they referenced things like the Flatwoods monster or the Loch Ness Monster
But that’s probably just a me thing
I'm 2 episodes into the anime, and I'm hooked. It absolutely gives me some of the same vibes FLCL gave me years ago, both on the wacky humor, and its more honest moments between the characters. I like em, and more shows need to make characters like this.
I got chills when i heard tunic music, really wasn't expecting, great video❤
Dandadan hits a weird spot for me. Its my favourite manga on SJ+ thats running right now, I would absolutely reccomend it to anyone in the same vein as Undead Unluck (as in, make it past the first 15-20 chapters the story starts picking up its momentum).
One thing I do want to say though, is that the series randomness has to be a result of meticulous planning. No way on Gods good earth can you actually make coherent chaos without planning the everloving shit out of it, and thats what makes the story truly great in its own right (besides the fact that Yukinobu is a fucking monster for having art that good and consistent *on a weekly basis*)
Keep up the good work boss, loved the vid.
I absolutely love Dandadan
aged so well
was told about the dandadan ep 1 dropping on crunchy roll from a friend.
I haven’t seen this much depth in an anime since cowboy bebop. As an American, that’s cool. I can’t wait for more dandadan
Keep making vids brotha
Dandadans batle flow is so good I can really only compare it to Berserk, you FEEL the fights since they are so easy to follow that your eyes just roll into all the hits. It is so damn beautiful. The artist really could have just shortcutted the ball bouncing around in the fight and just made is hit when he wanted but you can really feel how it is present in the whole fight I love it.
I'm just gonna say, if you truly love these two works, I would really recommend reading Dorohedoro
It has been on my need to watch/read list for years.
Reading dorohedoro feels like you just took 2 tabs
and continuing the pipeline is golden kamuy of course. which should be before dorohedoro actually
I believe chainsaw man took lots of influence from dorohedoro. It is the most chaotic manga I've ever read, it's amazing.
You won’t believe this
Crazy how you were right
Damn, sick editing!!!
YEAH ITS HAPPENING
I freaking love this series,i really hope it gets a bit more attention now that "weird" stories like Chainsawman are becoming popular, never has a first chapter of manga hooked me as hard as Dandadan
This video was released 1 year before release of Dandadan anime 🫡
Aged like fine wine
Cassette Beast ost, instantly liked and subscribed
I found dandadan randomly and i read it without know what it was and first chapter was a masterpiece, like you get that sudden chill after seeing turbo granny for the first time..out of no where and that legendary dialogue
great video, subbed - keep at it!
