The idea of a vampire having a coffin for entirely non-vampire related reasons is something that tickles me to no end.
Back in my Goth days my paramour and I slept in a custom made double coffin. Bumped my head on the lid really bad once..

The Janette and Schanke scenes are priceless! I also love their moments in Partners of the Month season 2.

The Nick brooding section was especially funny in this one. Like, Schanke is being hunted - and he found time to chill sadly.

Just watched the Jimmy & Donut episode last night in preparation for today’s installment of Forever Knight-athon.
I can't believe they killed off Jimmy for good. This show ain't afraid to take chances!
Can verify there are some people who are into being restrained who will utilize specially designed coffins (to avoid the suffocating).
I am very much enjoying these. I look forward to watching them every day. If this ends up being only one of the seasons I will probably be a bit sad.

I'm just today making a headcanon that the coffin in the scene is part of the "vamps gotta sleep like they're dead" trope. And that Nick's bed is really a waterbed filled with soil from Brabant, his homeland.

It feels like a shame they didn’t make more of the whole ‘2 people from disparate sides of Nick’s life meet each other’ thing, in particular how it affects their view of Nick. I think it’s fascinating when you get to meet a friend’s other friends from a very different setting (eg work) and see how differently your friend acts around them… and you couod have set up a similar thing with Schanke and Jimmy at the start, ended the episode with Nick and Schanke explicitly realising that they’ve had an insight into how much deeper the other is.
He will be Jimissed.

I think the Schanke thing is meant to be more of a confidence thing, not letting the killer get in his head and also showing that he has gotten better in the field while the killer stagnated. I don't think it does a great job at portraying this, but I see where they were going with it.
I do think the story would undoubtly be stronger if Schanke defeated him through investigation and brought him to justice, thereby proving (in the story at least) that a cop is more than their gun and actually rejecting the killer's philosophy, rather than than his specific gripes. There's actually something really close to a good story here if Schanke played more of a role in the actual investigation and they found a way for Schanke to arrest him rather than kill him.
The series Homicide: Life on the Streets had an entire story arc about a goth lady who had a coffin fetish.

Not always, but I do feel like sometimes in media "someone doing this upside exercise shit" == UNHINGED as character shorthand. The only other example I can think of is Lupin from the anime Undead Girl Murder Farce. Obviously, it's not always used this way, but I think it *should* be more frequently because I find it very funny.

If it matters to you, both sequel seasons have pretty big cast shake-ups because each new season is the result of a letter-writing campaign to get the show un-canceled.
