Back in 2001, I had the honor of having lunch with MxPx. It was in Colorado Springs, and they were playing a show with Mest that night. My friend was a journalist for a local zine, and he was able to get us passes for backstage. So we get in, and there's Mike just standing next to his amp. I approach him and we start talking about various things, travel, music, food,etc... He goes " are you hungry man?" I respectfully decline. He looks at me and says I'm no different than you man, I'm not some huge rockstar, I just play music for my friends, and now your my friend,so quit being shy and let's go get some BBQ. I tell my friend about what's going on. We drive up to this place on the north side of town, and mxpx buys food for about 20 people. I try to offer money, and they just simply said no. We get back to the venue, and the show starts and it was amazing. Mike was/ is one of the coolest, most down to earth dudes Ive ever met.
Nice! Thanks for sharing
That's fucking awesome!
Wow
I never met him although I had a chance to when I saw MxPx in Dallas, Tx in 2017. We were waiting in line to enter an hour before the show and all of a sudden MxPx comes out of the front door and Mike Herrera gets called out by the person in front me at the line… Mike says hi back, very humbly, and then the band just randomly takes off walking down the streets to site see? Maybe grab a bite before the show? Who knows? But they took off like nothing and Mike just carries himself like any other normal human. Not cocky by any means, just a super humble guy! Needless to say, later on that show MxPx blew the roof off the building! Absolutely electrifying performance! I hope to see them soon, again!
Kids in the 80's had Social D. Kids in the 90's had MxPx. Mike Herrera is our generation's Mike Ness. Timeless songwriter, unmistakable voice.
Doing Time is one of my all-time favorite MxPx songs. Fantastic.
Still have this CASSETTE! Lol. I’m 43 and still love me some west coast punk rock from MXPX
mikes voice has improved so much over the years. it was more signature on the older records but he's become a better singer overall.
+Ethan Grantges I agree. I miss it a little, but this is cool too.
Life in General (heck, every MxPx for that matter) has been the soundtrack of my life.
Amazing. I will still be listening to this when I’m 80
best version of this song. ever.
Still coming back to this every now and then because this song randomly pops up in my head
great song man. always remember thinking the original version was a true rocker even though it was one of the shortest songs on the album.
F C Bbsus2 C using a capo in the second fret. D# Tuning (D#, G#, C#, F#, A#, D#). The C chord in the intro is like a C5 but playing the 1st and 2nd strings open.
He also plays the same octaves Tom plays in the original studio version, but starting in F instead of F# and always playing the 6th string open.
Hope it helps!
This was my High School Graduation song...even though it wasn't actually the school's song.
dang, i remember buying their first album in 1994 (or 95, i'm old cant remember some stuff) while away at college. i'm 40 years old now and i still love his music the same. can't for their new stuff coming out.
Ian Fernandez same here man love their stuff and looking forward to another 20 yrs
New album dropped today!
I know this comment is a few years old, but Mike is one of my all time favorite musicians. Your story reminded me of when I first got into MxPx, and really music in general. I grew up in a Christian household (my parents were open and not iron hammer types like a lot I hear), and on a big youth retreat there was an area of music cds and t shirts from I think a Christian bookstore, or something like that. I thought Life in General looked neat for someone in middle school, and i picked it up. ~25 years later I’m still a sucker for pop punk, and have been a drummer in a number of bands of all types. I’m 36 so a few years younger, but man the small things that can shape a lifetime.
One of the best songs ever.
That ac guitar sounds amazing and that voice, love it!
Wow, never heard your songs being 60. Very good, loved seeing you and your wife on Chip & Jo's show! Welcome to the great Red state of TEXAS where we love our guns, babies, and bible. Man love your voice even at this young age!

First. And this song is a fucking classic. I remember times I had, some were happy, some were sad. This whole album was classic.
Wow, what an amazing version; and I'm a big fan of the original. The intro reminds me a bit of 'Phoenix Ignition' by Thrice.
Top!

Musicians of UA-cam tell me I'm not going crazy... has he tuned the guitar half a step down and then used a capo to go a whole step up? Only noticed because I'm desperately trying to play along!!
Jonny Miles He tuned his guitar half a step down, then he placed the capo on the 2nd fret
***** cool thanks ☺

Lirik Lagu Doing Time - MxPx
I remember times I had
some were happy, some were sad
memories me and my partners in crime
throwing up a thousand times
I got through it, I feel fine
I went to school and did my time
In a sense I'm out, in a sense I'm free
to be what I wanna be
Fun was cartoons Saturdays
Fun was staying up past eight
lame was tring to fit in
lame was the wrong crowd let me it
You gotta stick together
with who you are and who you know
You gotta remember
Where you've been and where you wanna go
I never did homework after school
did all the things I thought were cool
went out every Friday night
I still do and I'm alright.
FIRST
He missed some lyrics didn't he? after I never did homework after school... it's suppose to go to I never bothered.
never did homework after school, did all the things I thought were cool.... never bothered is not in the song.
fail
